The estate loomed behind me as I quickly rushed to hide within the trees. I paused and looked back at the building.
I wasn't sure if it was because this was the home of a Supreme Alpha, but at least in normal packs, even the Alphas' lodge was guarded by wolves. The lax security here made escaping easy.
I turned back towards the sparse forest before me, rubbing my arm which I had bruised from my fall out of the window.
For the past three days, I had forced myself to eat. Even though I could survive on the elements, my body needed fuel from food, and I couldn't afford to collapse halfway while escaping.
I had packed a few things. A small bag with a change of clothes, wrapped food that wouldn't spoil quickly, and my grandmother's pendant tucked carefully into the inner pocket where it wouldn't get damaged or lost.
