Kael stood in front of me, having materialized out of thin air.
How?
He can't be here. How was he back so soon and how did he get here?
I tried to run.
His hand closed around my wrist before I'd taken two steps.
"No." I pulled against the grip and my heart soared. I might be tired, but not weak, and yet I couldn't break from his firm grip.
He turned me to face him, and even in the darkness, I could see his eyes blazing with something that might have been fury or fear or both.
"What is the meaning of this?"
"I am leaving. Please, let me go!"
He went still and I noticed the incessant twitch in his jaw.
"The hell I will." His other hand came up to cup my face, forcing me to meet his gaze. "You can't leave."
I turned away from him, digging my heels into the ground to plant myself in place as I pulled against him. With a sharp tug, he pulled me against his chest.
"Don't be silly."
"Please, let go—"
