With the madman passed out from all the demonic energy in the room, I decided to just take his amulet right then, and there, I already completed my part of the deal.
So I had every right to just take it from him.
[Amulet of Exorcism (S)]
- Demonic Resistance
[Synergy Activated]
What?
What synergy? I'm not wearing other exorcist items; this is certainly... new.
[Beelzebub's Ring + Amulet of Exorcism]
[Fusing]
W-What...? How can two completely opposite artifacts have a synergy? This wasn't shown or laid out in the novel at all.
But... if it gets me power, I can't really complain now, can I?
[Eye of the Profaned (Unique)]
- Chaos and Divine Attunement
- Demonic Dominion
- Profaned Prince (Evolved From Demon Prince)
I didn't know what to think at all... instead of an actual item, it just straight up replaced my eye.
And it was surprisingly painless, like it just completely erased it and inserted itself like it was always there.
And despite being a completely new eye, everything looked... exactly the same, the only difference was, I was now far more powerful than before.
The problem? This was completely new territory that I didn't know how to navigate.
This was power that wasn't at all mentioned or shown.
'Profaned Prince?'
I hovered at the tooltip, revealing its small description.
[Mortal version of the demonic prince trait, grants authority on both the living and the dead.]
Sounds powerful, right? But I wasn't naive enough to think I was just given power equal to a fully awakened demonic prince in a whim.
In fact... I'm fairly sure this was a weakened version, but even then, at least it was compatible with my own body, so I took it as a win anyway.
As for my spells?
[Profaned Serpent]
It was just a combination of chaos and divine energy, but it wasn't stronger... in fact, it was also weaker.
The two completely opposite forces of energy now fighting for dominion and making the overall effect of the spell weaker as a result.
But... it did have one major benefit.
I can now use elements from the two, including their subtypes, like light and dark; my biggest problem has now been solved in sheer accident.
Sheer audacity really does win in the end, I guess...
***
I returned to the academy with a victorious look on my face. I didn't even realise that I was now walking like an excited child.
[12:45]
Checking my watch, I had spent more time in the Cold Iron District than intended, and now that I had my current task for the day finished, I guess visiting Evelina was the most obvious choice of action.
But she didn't call for me yet, even I know not to interrupt her when not needed.
So I guess I'm free once more.
Good thing I took a look at a light spellbook when I visited the Imperial Library.
No need to return just for a simple trip.
'A weakened version of chaos energy...'
I cup the eye that held the new artifact, feeling its faint energy brushing off my palm.
While it being weakened did bum me out, it was a good thing in the end, my body no longer had to face the repercussions of harnessing pure chaos energy as a mortal.
Instead, I was now basically casting a stronger version of light and dark, which I preferred.
The more efficient I can make my current abilities, the better. Pure destructive power wasn't really something I needed to have.
[Profaned Step]
I reappeared in my dorm, just beside Evelina's room.
And to my surprise, it had been furnished while I was gone, with a simple note left in the drawer, the only evidence of who had done it.
It was the maids and servants back at home... they had furnished it for me.
"You seemed to be in a hurry... so we decided to help out."
I laughed, placing the note in a drawer.
It wasn't a bad feeling at all to have other people looking out for me.
*** The Next Day
With nothing else to do and Evelina seemingly not needing my presence, I ended yesterday with basic conditioning, getting my brain used to my new physique and headed off to bed right after.
And now... now starts my official first day in the academy.
[7:12]
"Still fairly early..."
I stood up from my bed and turned off my alarm clock, or in this world, a very steampunk version of it and checked my current schedule.
Also, coincidentally placed by the servants to aid in my academic studies.
"First lesson is on moral and pragmatic applications of day-to-day life..." I raised a brow. "What a long name for a subject."
It's just my first day, and I already don't feel like going.
I was never a good student when it came to stuff like this, if I was... I wouldn't have chosen to be an assassin in the first place.
While I was preparing for the day in my room, just beside my walls, I could hear faint humming coming from Evelina's room.
Her sweet, melodic voice fills my ears.
I changed my mind, this was the perfect morning to go to school.
