Chapter 22 - A Chaotic Entrance

Even though I had already finished preparations, I still hadn't left my room and headed to my new classroom, but... it wasn't due to any important or calculated reason at all.

Instead.

It was due to a matter of affection.

Yes...

I was simply waiting for Evelina to come out of her dorm so I could accompany her; it was already obvious, given that we had the same ranks, that we would be classmates.

So why not wait and go together? I wasn't just fulfilling my duty as a useful servant and pawn, but I was also fulfilling a personal dream of mine ever since I first read the novel.

Two birds with one stone.

CREAK!

I heard the sound of her door opening; it was finally time.

"Good morning, Evelina."

I exited the door just in time; seeing her in her academy uniform firsthand was definitely a blessing to behold.

Just as expected, she was as perfect and as beautiful as I had envisioned her.

"Y-Yes... morning to you too."

Evelina replied in a perplexed tone. She knew I was obsessed, but to this point? It was a... pleasant? surprise to say the least.

"Don't we have the same room assignment?"

Evelina asked, shaking off her earlier surprise as she returned to a more casual and serious expression.

"Yes, should we walk together?"

"That's a given."

A given? Does that mean this will become a normal routine at this point on?

Am I probably jumping to conclusions? Yes, but can a man dream? Also yes.

***

What a perfect morning this was.

The chirping of birds, the ambience of the academy, and the most perfect lady just beside me, if I knew I was going to get transmigrated to this world, then I would have probably gotten myself killed sooner.

Nothing could ruin this perfect day.

And I do mean nothing...

I will make sure of it.

"This is a side of you I didn't expect to see."

Evelina spoke, not bothering to look at me as she remarked on the way I fell into step beside her.

I couldn't blame her. I had a smile plastered on my face the whole time while humming; even my discipline as an assassin couldn't hide the sheer joy I was feeling at this moment.

I knew I was crazy, but this definitely made me realize that I could be even crazier.

"D-Do you hate it?"

I asked, my voice sounding more... pathetic than usual.

"No... in fact, I find it... amusing for a lack of a better term."

Always so benevolent she was.

"So then, after classes, what do you have in store?" I asked.

In the novel, she was always implied to be scheming almost every day while the academy phase of the story was underway, so it was obvious to assume that she should also have something planned today.

Do I know what she had planned? No, but do I want to help? yes.

"Always the people pleaser, are you?"

"You're the only one I want to please, Evelina."

"Yes, yes, I know all about your infatuation..." She sighed. "But I do have something in mind later, so I guess keep your guard up."

"Of course!"

***

The moment we entered our room, three familiar faces were already present.

Julius, Marcellus, and Kevin.

"E-Eh..." Julius raised a brow, surprised at the sight of Evelina and me arriving together in the room.

He already knew at this point that I loved her, but walking to class together was something he didn't expect.

Not that the confusing part was seeing a man walking together with a girl, but more to the fact that Evelina, the cold and callous woman that she was in his eyes, was actually allowing someone to walk with her.

Now that was a sight to behold.

"I can't believe this." Marcellus covered his face, trying to stifle a laugh. To him, I looked like a pitiful man who relied less on my upper brain and instead on my lower one.

As for Kevin...

"Master!" Kevin jumped out of his seat.

And that was when Julius had finally lost it, choking on his own saliva as Marcellus was now in tears due to laughing.

"...What a mess."

Evelina pinched the bridge of her nose as she took her assigned seat, promptly shooing me off as she'd rather not become the center of attention in such a stupid way.

I was a bit disappointed, of course, but I couldn't blame her; I was assigned a seat farther away after all.

And coincidentally, that seat was just beside Kevin.

"Been a while, hasn't it?"

I replied, taking my seat.

"R-Right, can you finally teach me about how you managed to decipher the book?"

"Not yet, I did say that you needed to make yourself useful first..."

"Oh come on... cut me some slack."

"No..."

The room had now begun to fill up with even more students, and after another minute had passed, the professor had finally arrived.

And... it was Corvus.

The last person I expected to teach a subject called 'Moral and Pragmatic Applications of Day-to-Day Life'.

"Looks like some familiar faces are already here."

Corvus grinned, spotting the four of us, still remembering the first amusing physical exam he had in ages.
