Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Final

After the situation calmed down a little, or at least that's how it looked, Kiriya approached Ethan.

"Ethan," he called.

The man turned around. "... Is there something you need?"

Kiriya didn't want to make the atmosphere any worse, so he went straight to his point and plan. "I can bring your daughter back to life, but I need time because I have to recover myself."

Hearing Kiriya's words, Ethan widened his eyes. However, Kiriya immediately stopped him from talking. "Listen first."

"If there's any soldiers coming to us, please distract them however you can. I'll handle Miranda and your daughter personally. While that happens, please stall for one day."

"... Alright. I trust you." Ethan nodded. "With this kind of commotion, there will definitely be government agents coming, especially since my family is personally monitored by the government."

"In that case, let me take your daughter, Ethan."

"Alright." Ethan handed Kiriya the four containers of Rose.

"I'm leaving now." Kiriya disappeared right in front of Ethan's eyes. He vanished from Ethan's world and appeared in the Training Field realm. Because time moved the same there, Kiriya could still use it to recover himself, though it was quite risky since he had to stay in a place beyond the reach of his comrades.

His main concern was that strong enemies like Miranda, who had been resurrected with a new body—or other enemies Kiriya hadn't dealt with yet, like Moreau—would come.

["Ordinary Person": I'm currently recovering inside the Training Field, one of the system's features. If anything dangerous happens, just send me a direct message. I'll come help. And if there's soldiers coming in, Mei, Yahiko, and Kanae must go to the Training Field immediately to keep the secret of otherworld's existences.]

Without waiting for any further messages, Kiriya immediately changed the environment inside the Training Field into a more comfortable place to recover, but not enough to make him too relaxed to the point he'd fall asleep.

'One day without sleep isn't a problem.'

While he sat waiting for his magic to recharge, Kiriya read notes about his abilities. Magic.

"—Anyone who experiences an emotional explosion and/or loses control of one's magic will become a 'Devil'. One's power will skyrocket but will lose control over emotions… as it was burned to enhance one's magic. However, there's a rare occurrence where one gets their rationality back in turn of losing capability of producing emotions."

This was the easiest path for Kiriya to gain power quickly. However, he wasn't sure how to make his magic go out of control when he was conscious. Is letting your magic uncontrolled consciously equal as letting it uncontrolled unconsciously?

Kiriya also had no reason to experience an emotional outburst. No traumatic event or anything like that.

"... That's if I don't have power like magic."

Kiriya grinned. He will be the devil.

Kiriya leaned comfortably against the tree behind him. He channeled his magic and activated a spell that brought him into his own mental palace.

Self-illusion was the effect he was looking for, just like Genjutsu Tsukuyomi from Yahiko's world. He locked all his memories regarding this self-illusion except for his magic ability itself, creating artificial memories in a scenario—a roleplay.

Kiriya would torture himself with a cursed scenario he would never forgive in both lives he had lived.

—Betrayal.

One hour later, a chopper from the United Nation's special squad led by Chris Redfield comes to eliminate the Black God. Yahiko, Mei, and Kanae enter the Training Field while Ethan and his wife left behind, act as the remaining survivors.

"Ethan, Mia! Where is your daughter?" Chris asks the couple. But the couple is just silent. Chris' gritted in silent, understood—or misunderstood—the situations.

"... I'm sorry for your loss…." The couple didn't say anything even though they wanted to correct his words. They can't because it was something that can't be said casually. Especially in front of the nation's soldiers.

Chris thought about Miranda's situation. Ethan has won, but at what cost.

"Captain, we're ready!" Someone from Chris' squad said from the intercom, with gunshot in the background.

They leave and reach the chopper. Ethan and Mia head inside of the chopper, but Chris stays in the field.

"We'll take care of Miranda and the Megamycete," said Chris. With his guns, he left the perimeter and headed towards the core of the fungi.

A tremendous explosion was created instantly.

It destroyed several hundred meters from Kiriya's position, with him as the center.

He floated in the air.

Magic surged violently throughout his body.

His eyes were open. His sclera, normally white like any human's, had turned red. And his gaze dull with no emotions present.

"... It worked." Kiriya muttered.

But a few moments later, it returned to normal. His sclera turned white again as he regained control of his magic. Yet, his eyes are still emotionless, a sign of what he has turned into.

He landed on the ground. His eyes landed on the three other members present there.

"Kiriya-san! The soldier has come for Mr. Ethan," said the orange-head. Kiriya just nodded.

He could control his emotions and mind well. Even when recalling the people who had betrayed him inside the illusion, his heart was completely serene. No rage could be felt.

But that wasn't a problem.

That wouldn't mean he can't understand others'.

What mattered now was the boost in magic power he received. His magic had multiplied several times over from before.

Stronger than anything he had achieved during training inside the Training Field. Kiriya grinned with satisfaction.

"You wait here, I'll go out and help Ethan."

Kiriya disappeared from the Training Field and returned to the real world, leaving the three there.

One hour.

That was how long he spent to instantly increase his power.

And he heard the sound of helicopter blades cutting through the air.

His magic spread in all directions. The bomb has been planted and he was here alone standing with an explosive ready to destroy the black mass.

"Well… no problem," Kiriya muttered.

He didn't know how powerful the explosion would be later. So he would wait and watch from afar and make the decision later.

Kiriya glanced at the high ground. His eyes glowed red as he used magic, enhancing it like a precise macro camera.

A frame resembling a door appeared beside him and on the plateau in his view.

He stepped into it and appeared atop. Not stopping there, Kiriya floated up into the air.

"I want to try Shinra Tensei… but I don't have enough confidence it'll destroy all of this, and Ethan's still up there," Kiriya muttered.

There was another spell that was more effective and more destructive. But he'll wait.

When the chopper got further, the ticking sound of the bomb became faster before the sound of an explosion followed by a blazing fire overflowing and devouring almost all parts of the Megamycete.

It was working, but clearly it didn't clean all the fungi.

So, to clear everything, Kiriya steps in.

He needs something similar to that explosion. No, he needs something bigger. A spell that would create an explosion equivalent to a nuclear bomb itself.

Kiriya raised his hand.

Magic expanded outward in all directions with him as the center. Enclosing himself and the Black God in a red-patterned magic barrier.

The spectacular magic, that could even be seen by the naked eye, shocked everyone, creating panic among the soldiers in the air.

The intense magic he activated obstructed their perception of him.

And a few moments later, Kiriya opened his mouth and whispered.

I…

Am…

"Atomic."

As that word fell, a massive explosion—an explosion that devoured everything in blinding light—was created.

A controlled blast the likes of which they had never seen or heard before.

"Oh my god…."

The helicopter pilot muttered.

"It's like a nuclear bomb on a smaller scale," his partner commented.

Everyone could only mutter and comment in a mix of emotions.

Fear, confusion, and doubt.

Ethan thought to himself, "Was that Kiriya? That mysterious young man?"

On that day, all records regarding Miranda and the Mutamycete fungus vanished from the world completely.

Consumed by 'nuclear' explosion.
