Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Return

Rosemary Winters. She was Ethan and Mia Winters biological daughter. She was born a few years after the incident of Bakers family with Eveline, the bioweapon made from the sample of mold by Miranda. Then, after that incident, comes Miranda's incident with the Megamycete.

Either she was born with it or it was Miranda's, Rosemary will live with the power of mutant. Something's not changing, but it'll be different now. Her father didn't sacrifice his life for her and is still around to support her and her mother.

There's a reason why I didn't wait for Ethan to clear everything first.

And it was because Ethan will be too weak to live if I'm waiting too long and it's not ideal for the group and his family.

I return Rosemary to her parents. Ethan and Mia are really grateful when I show their healthy daughter.

"Kiriya, if there's anything you need me to help, just tell me. I'll do everything to my capabilities."

I'm not really looking for his help. It's just my selfishness. "Don't worry, I'll tell you immediately if there's something I need."

But that doesn't mean I'll not take the offer. Having someone helping is clearly a nice thing after all.

[Mission Succeed. You may return to your world.]

With the last farewell, the world changed. It's not a modern American house anymore. It was a traditional Japanese house of rural town.

The faint moonlight shone in through the wide-open paper door.

In this world, the seasons and time were vastly different from Ethan's world. More further back then.

[Congratulations! You have successfully completed the death scenario of Ethan Winters.

You have contributed the most to this mission.

You are the MVP.]

A message appeared in front of me. A congratulatory message from the system to Nakuru for completing the mission and becoming the MVP this time.

[You have received rewards for your success and a bonus for your greatest participation.]

A second notification appeared. It was for the rewards.

Everything paid off satisfactorily.

I check on the inventory.

"Random Item …."

A random item.

Its description showed that he could obtain any random item that could be either beneficial or detrimental depending on how I used it. So, it is basically a gacha tool.

Why must it be that gacha thing?

I cast a spell. Magic spread in a split second and covered the entire room within a Bounded Field that created an illusion for observers from outside to make sure there were no gaps for normal people to observe.

[You have obtained T-Doll OTs-14 Groza. Where do you want the item to be placed? The world or Item Storage?]

"T-Doll? A doll? Please put it here."

Just like that, a two-meter-tall steel capsule appeared in front of me. A capsule with a glass lid revealing the contents inside.

A female robot. A beautiful female robot with distinctly European characteristics. Long blonde hair that flowed over her shoulders and down to her chest. I like her design.

Not because she was naked inside the capsule, but because the system clearly knew my type.

There's also an instruction about this robot from the system.

T-Doll, or Tactical Doll, was a robot created for military purposes.

They would be able to unleash their full potential when using a weapon recorded in their core—or so it was simply described.

In my case, I got a robot named "OTs-14 Groza", then the weapon that could draw out her full potential was an Assault Rifle of the same type.

Just like ordinary robots, T-Dolls had upgrade modules.

By default, T-Dolls only possessed organs needed in combat. Such as sensory perception for sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing. They could also feel pain and speak to be more effective in battle.

However, they didn't have digestive systems to process biodegradable materials. Some of them also lacked the ability to feel and receive emotions.

This was an interesting robot.

The problem was, I had no reason to use this weapon of war. But from the information, it's not like this robot can't do other things except being a weapon. Besides, looking at beautifully modelled robot is not a bad thing, isn't it?

I wonder what kind of world this robot came from.

"For now, I guess I should store it in another dimension."

I send it—not to the Item Storage by the group—to my own Spatial Inventory.

When I come back to my apartment, I'll check on her. For now, let's check on the chat. I'm curious what's happening with this many notifications.

["War-Dummy Mutant": Did you all return safely?]

["Ramen Topping Wannabe": Of course! Even my friends are fine. Though they're confused when I say we've completed the mission. The world's really stopped.]

["Frozen Flower": Sorry to interrupt, should I tell others about what we've been through before?]

["War-Dummy Mutant": I think we shouldn't, at least for now, because it would be hard for people to believe what happened. Humans coming from another world? They'll think we're insane.]

["Nerdy Raijin": I agree with Mr. Ethan. Especially when it involves the government and the military. It would be dangerous for us.]

["Ramen Topping Wannabe": Uh oh, I've been telling my friends and my teacher a lot about our mission ….]

["Ordinary Person": I think that's fine if they believe what you're talking about.]

["Ramen Topping Wannabe": Kiriya-san!]

["War-Dummy Mutant": Welcome, Kiriya.]

["Frozen Flower": Welcome back!]

["Nerdy Raijin": Is that really okay to tell others about this group?]

["Ordinary Person": For me, I don't mind telling anyone. As long as they keep it secret. Or, you can use your power to make them can't spread a word about the group. Or, if you really sure believe you're fine telling the whole world, I don't mind.]

["Ordinary Person": But I suggest that you keep this as a secret for yourself. Who knows, something wrong will happen—to yourself or someone you share the information with—if they spread it without your consent.]

Referring to the case of Yahiko, it's fine when you tell someone about the chat group. But it doesn't mean the same will be applied when one tells others.

The sky's still dark outside. Of course, it's 3 AM in the morning after all. And after everything that has happened before, I'm tired.

I clear the spell and lay down on the futon and close my eyes. Drift into the dream.

***

The sky is clear and it's 7 in the morning now. Of course, I'm awake because it was my biological alarm waking me up, not because of some damned dream. Anyway, I get up and go to the toilet to clear a business.

It's a rural town of Japan in the early 21th century. The air was really fresh. It's like cleaning and blessing my lungs with nature's magic. Even though it's just regular air.

Today is a good day.

"Senpai."

The familiar voice of a certain girl made me turn around.

"Good morning, Aoi." I greet her.

Her silver hair fluttered lightly by the gentle caress of the morning wind. She lived next door with her sister and mom. We have known each other since we were kids when I visited my grandma once in the past.

"Alone without your sister? What happened?"

"Mom's asking to invite you for breakfast."

Perfect timing. After burning a lot of magic last battle, I've been hungry since coming back.

"Sure thanks," I nodded to her and follow to her house.

Her house is one with mixed design of western and traditional Japanese style. Much like your average Japanese house today.

"Mom, Suiren Nee-san! I brought Senpai back!" Aoi shouted as she got in. Behind her, I follow to the main tatami room where Aoi's sister, Suiren, and their mom, Touka, are sitting with chabudai¹ in the middle.

"Welcome, Kiriya-kun!" Suiren greeted me with a shining smile. Clearly a charming girl who's going to step to maturity. Pretty different from how she look in my childhood memories. Anyone who'll marry her is a lucky man. We gotta make sure she's with a good man in the future. Can't let her down.

I respond with a, more, faint smile. "Yeah. And thanks for having me, Auntie."

"It's okay. I know you'll be hungry in the morning with your morning routines." Touka smiled faintly.

Such a good woman. And with a wholesome family, really. I'm sure that's why her husband never gets tired working overseas for them. I hope I can have a wife with her quality in the future.

"Anyway. Sit and get your breakfast, Kiriya."

I nodded to her words and sat beside Aoi. The smell passed my nose faintly, telling me the taste will be heaven as the aroma. It's not something as fabulous as black truffle or caviar, but a simple and average Japanese breakfast with your miso—with fried tofu, grilled fish, eggs, and pickled veggies.

"I accept gratefully."

We dig in right after praying. I taste the soup, and right as it gets down the throat, it wash my tummy like the sun's blessing, silence the rumbling stomach. It's usually the time where I will get pleased and happy, but with the transformation, I can no longer make genuine emotions.

I've grown to know emotions very well. It was not a big deal to fake it. But, it's a completely different problem to make it look believable.

"You can have more if it's still not enough," said Touka.

"Thanks, I will."

She has said, so I'll not hesitate to devour.

Even if I couldn't give the usual smile, at least, I could still show my gratitude by finishing the meals.
