Chapter 27: Chris's Physical Changes
As the sky began to lighten, a white mist rose from the forest.
Chris finally saw the sign for the Visitor Center.
"Damn it! Finally found it."
Ever since he vaulted over the park gate, Chris realized that the roads outside were incredibly winding.
It took him a good hour to find his way there, guided by the sign.
That old man deserved to have his dinosaur park fail; what kind of theme park is designed like a maze?
Chris had many complaints about Hammond, the park owner, but now that he had arrived, Chris was ready to proceed with his plan.
First, he would search the surroundings for those Velociraptors, and then see if the T-Rex was nearby.
If they weren't around, he could only wait there, praying that those beasts would show up before he left.
Chris first listened intently, found the surroundings to be completely silent, and then walked towards the back of the Visitor Center.
As soon as he reached the back door of the Visitor Center, Chris saw the back door open, and a man carrying a shotgun and wearing a park-emblazoned uniform walked out, followed by a woman.
The moment he saw these two, Chris recognized them and confirmed the plot's timeline.
"Phew!" Chris, having confirmed the timeline, let out a long sigh of relief, thinking to himself that there was still time, and those Velociraptors should already be in the vicinity.
However, to find them, he would need to follow these two people.
He remembered that the guy with the gun died by the claws of a Velociraptor.
So, as long as he followed them, he would definitely be able to hunt those dinosaurs.
Thinking this, Chris was about to call out to them.
But just before he spoke, he suddenly realized something: he had no reasonable excuse to explain his presence.
Realizing this, Chris chose to keep quiet; after all, secretly following them would eventually lead him to hunt those Velociraptors.
So, Chris watched the two walk away, then cautiously followed them.
Finally, the three of them arrived at a densely vegetated area, and upon reaching it, Chris immediately felt a sense of unease.
Then he personally witnessed the two do the idiotic things that horror movie characters always do: splitting up and going their separate ways.
Chris, with his keen hearing and sight, even heard the gun-wielding man's classic "last words."
"Run, head straight for the maintenance shed."
"What? Aren't you coming?"
"There's a predator's scent here. Don't worry, I've got this!"
With that, the gun-wielding man walked into the dense forest, while Dr. Sattler agilely sprinted toward the maintenance shed.
Chris, from a distance, watched the man's figure disappear into the dense forest, thought for a moment, and then ran in after him.
Chris then discovered two Velociraptors; these two intelligent beasts also spotted the gun-wielding man.
Then Chris saw one of the Velociraptors split off, slowly circling to the side of the gun-wielding man, just as Muldoon, thinking he was the hunter, was using his hat as bait to set a trap.
Little did he know that he himself had already become the prey.
Just as the man adjusted his rifle stock, preparing to fire at the Velociraptor in front, the Velociraptor on his flank made a sound.
This instantly made the man realize something, and he desperately exclaimed, "Clever girl!"
Then he swung his gun around, preparing to deal with the Velociraptor closest to him first.
However, before he could shoot, this Velociraptor pounced on him, and the man's panicked shot, as expected, missed its target.
This incredibly frustrating scene made Chris sigh, finding it truly classic.
But he hated this kind of classic; when he watched the movie, there were many scenes that made his blood boil.
And now, to witness one of these scenes firsthand, how could Chris stand by?
He raised the long spear in his hand, then threw it with all his might; several tons of explosive force launched the spear like a bullet from a gun.
Previously, to get a close-up view of the security guard's foolish actions, Chris had specifically climbed a tree.
So when Chris threw the spear, it covered dozens of yards in the blink of an eye.
Before the Velociraptor's gaping jaws could make contact with Muldoon, the Velociraptor was carried away by the immense kinetic energy of the spear.
Then a wisp of gray vapor entered Chris's body.
"Huh?" Chris was a little surprised; he had thought that killing these dinosaurs wouldn't absorb their life essence.
After all, earlier when he killed five small dinosaurs, no life essence appeared.
But now it seemed that it might have been because the life essence of those five small dinosaurs was too weak, and coupled with the dark environment at the time, he simply hadn't noticed it.
"Roar, roar, roar!"
While Chris was momentarily stunned, another Velociraptor had already charged towards Muldoon.
Muldoon was still in shock; he didn't even know how he had survived.
He only saw a flash of light fly past, and then the Velociraptor in front of him was knocked away.
But now, the roar of another Velociraptor startled him, making him realize he was not yet out of danger.
He immediately stopped thinking, turned with his gun, and fired a shot in the direction the Velociraptor was charging from.
However, this time he missed again.
Seeing that he was about to continue shooting, Chris couldn't take it anymore; he leaped down from the tree, crossing a distance of over thirty feet and directly landing on the Velociraptor.
These were all his ticket to becoming stronger; he couldn't waste them!
Chris gripped the beast's neck with both hands, then twisted with force, and with a snap, the Velociraptor fell to the ground.
All of this happened in an instant, so Muldoon didn't react at all, still pulling the trigger.
As the gunshot rang out, Muldoon closed his eyes in despair; he could already imagine the scene of this incredibly powerful kid being shot dead by him.
However, the next moment he heard Chris retrieving his spear, and only then did he cautiously open his eyes.
Then he said in disbelief, "Oh my God! You're not dead?!"
Chris used the tip of his spear to cut open the Velociraptor's hide, then cut off a piece of dinosaur meat and put it in his mouth.
While chewing, he said in a mocking tone, "With your aim? You couldn't hit the broad side of a barn."
"What?"
The person in front of him clearly didn't understand Chris's idiom at first.
"I'm saying your marksmanship is terrible, okay?!"
"Oh, come on! I was just too nervous!"
Only when he heard Chris explain did the man immediately understand the point of Chris's mockery, and he quickly started to explain.
Chris just shrugged it off. The joke would've been too complicated to explain anyway—about how his full name was Christopher Cross Griffin.
However, the reason Chris wasn't too angry was that Muldoon's shotgun had actually hit him with scattered pellets.
Fortunately, after devouring the life essence of the Creeper, he had acquired its super recovery ability.
After eating a piece of dinosaur meat, the wounds on his body had already healed.
At the same time, Chris also realized that this dinosaur meat could indeed solve his malnutrition problem; at this moment, Chris's body cells were trembling, crying out for food.
And since he confirmed that the dinosaur meat was useful, Chris immediately let loose, wielding the long spear in his hand with skill, and in a moment, he had cut the Velociraptor into various sized pieces of meat.
Then Chris, without hesitation, ravenously chewed on the flesh and blood of this creature that had dominated the Earth for hundreds of millions of years.
This stunned Muldoon beside him, who watched the scene in shock, wondering what kind of superhuman this was.
While eating, Chris took out a piece of dinosaur meat and asked Muldoon, "Want some?"
Seeing Muldoon shake his head with a disgusted expression, Chris took back the meat and swallowed it himself.
Then Chris remembered that there was another Velociraptor in the maintenance shed, and said casually, "I saw another Velociraptor run into that building earlier. Can you keep watch for me? After I finish eating these, I'll go deal with that one."
At these words, Muldoon's face changed, and he exclaimed, "Oh no, Dr. Sattler!"
Then the man grabbed his gun and rushed over.
Once the man was gone, Chris no longer held back and completely unleashed himself.
In a short while, he finished eating this Velociraptor, and then Chris went to the other Velociraptor and began to dismember it.
By the time Chris had eaten both Velociraptors until only their skeletons and internal organs remained, Chris felt his body was satisfied.
Then he was surprised to find his back itchy, as if something was about to emerge.
Chris then took off his shirt, turned his head, and saw a pair of ugly leathery wings had already sprouted.
"Damn it! Please, no!"
Chris then remembered that Creepers had wings, and previously, perhaps due to malnutrition, he hadn't grown them.
And now that he was well-nourished, this thing naturally grew out.
However, Chris really didn't want this thing; not only was it ugly, but it also couldn't achieve long-distance flight.
It was completely useless!
