Chapter 9 - Chapter Nine

Elena's POV

It would seem like I just walked into a heated moment between those two. I'm trying to remember where I've seen his face from but I can't place it.

"I should be on my way now, little one." He rubbed Rosalyn's cheek and gave her one last peck then walked towards me to go out.

"It's nice to finally meet you in person, Miss Elena. I'm Dave, your betrothed's best friend. Have a great day." He gave me a soft smile and walked away.

I was too shocked to say a word and just nodded while he winked and walked away.

"What just happened right now?" I asked her closing the door behind me.

Her face turned beet red and she couldn't look me in the eyes. I stood in front of her face and tried getting her to look at me.

"Nothing."

"You didn't tell me you had an affair going on."

"There's no affair at all, it's complicated."

"I have all the time, at least this will make me happy because I just witnessed that brother of yours with another woman. Just after you told me that maybe I should give this a shot."

"He did what?" Rage filled her voice in anger.

"Look, tell me more about this guy. That's more important."

"Your happiness means so much to me. I'll talk to him. I'm pretty sure I know who you're talking about."

"Leave that for once and tell me what's really happening between you and him."

"Fine, we had a thing but I was too scared of my brother so I said we should keep it a secret. I later broke things up and he soon moved on with other women."

"Why did you break things up?"

"I was young and stupid, okay? I felt like it might break their friendship, I know how protective my brother is of me."

"So you ruined something beautiful for that?"

"Elena, I was trying to be considerate. Also I felt he was a bit out of my league." She put her head down.

"I knew that there was something more. That card you were trying to play of you caring about your brother's feelings."

"Look at him and look at me, Elena. He is rich, intelligent and so handsome. While I'm trying to get myself together."

"Don't worry we'll figure all these out."

A knock on the door made us both go silent.

"Come in." Rosalyn said out loud and the door was pushed open by Ryan.

"What are you doing here, brother?" Rosalyn asked, anger visible in her voice.

"Hey Ro, I'd like to talk to your friend, can you excuse us for a bit?" He gave her a pleading look.

She looked at me in question, I nodded and smiled at her.

"You're lucky she said I should leave." She then stood up and walked out of her room, shutting the door.

"What do you want? Thought you'd still be with your woman?"

"She isn't my woman, look I'm here to clear the air. Monalisa is nothing to me, she came here uninvited and it won't happen again."

"This is the second time she is behaving as if you guys have a thing."

"We used to be a thing, in fact almost married but I discovered some things about her that made me leave. She has refused to accept it."

"See, I get that this thing is a contract marriage and you might not be too keen on it but please keep her out of my sight. I don't care whether you have a thing with her or not."

A little voice in my head called me a liar. He is one of the most infuriating men I've ever come across but surprisingly something I can't place my hands on is what made my heart squeeze at the sight of them earlier.

He sighed and stepped closer to me. I pushed myself farther on the bed to get away from him.

"I'm not going to eat you, yet." He gave me a sly smile. To my surprise my tummy felt uneasy at his words.

Before a word could come out of my mouth, his palm wrapped around my ankles and he gently climbed atop me on the bed, pulling me as he did that.

"What are you doing?" I whispered in surprise at his actions.

"I want you to listen to me. This may be a contract marriage but I will not cheat on you or disrespect you. I hope you will accord the same respect to me, because I'm aware that you have a playboy you're known to love."

My face squinted at his statement. Is he implying that I'm a cheat or I frolic around with other men. Anger surgery in my veins at the

"Just when I thought you would say something sensible. The only one indulging the opposite sex is you, not me. I can take anything but being called cheap."

He chuckled darkly at what I said and placed his face against my neck. He took a deep whiff and rubbed his nose against me.

What he was doing was intimate and he shouldn't do this already.

"I didn't stutter when I warned you, spitfire. I will end any man that even looks at you in a way I don't like. You're mine now and there's no going back."

I froze and couldn't utter another word. My eyes were wide and I couldn't believe what he said.

After a while I regained myself. "Get off me, you oaf. You better tell yourself not me, stay away from me from now onwards."

He raised an eyebrow at me and smiled at me, my heart fluttered. I don't think I've ever noticed how handsome he is until today.

"I'll be leaving you for now, spit fire. Don't forget what we talked about."

He was off me in seconds and fixed his suit up and walked out of the room.

Not long after, Rosalyn pushed the door open and walked towards me. "What did I miss?"

"Nothing at all." I said making sure I didn't meet her gaze.

"Oooo now I'm sure there's so much to talk about. Give me the tea." She said with a mischievous look on her face.

"I need to go home right now."

"Why is that?"

"Nothing, my Dad called. He needs me."

Rosalyn gave me a look that she knew I was lying but she let it go. She pulled me into a hug.

"I'll pester you until you tell me the truth." She whispered in my ears and pulled off me.

I just ignored her and rushed out of the house and headed to my car.

I looked back at the balcony of their home and saw HIM looking at me.

I got into my car and rode home in minutes. I got there and finally took a deep breath.

I went to my room and didn't see any one in the house. They must be either out or asleep.

My phone rang out in my purse. It must be Rosalyn checking if I was okay.

I picked the call without looking at the screen. "Hello."

"Hi, sunshine." A deep, baritone voice

I dreaded to hear boomed at the other end.

My heart dropped as I looked at my screen this time and knew exactly who this was.
