Chapter 34 - Numerology

"I hope she's not studying numerology," Alexander blurted out instinctively.

Reyna was stunned for a moment, then blinked and asked, "What numerology?"

"Uh..."

Alexander blinked, unsure how to explain.

Should he tell Reyna:

numerology is a brand new open-world adventure game independently developed by Mortarion, set in a fantasy world called the Warp?

Mortarion, that stubborn Primarch, definitely inherited the Emperor's pigheadedness.

He had clearly already defected to Chaos, and Nurgle and a group of Great Unclean Ones were standing right in front of him, yet he still tried to explain the Warp with "science" like numerology.

He even turned around and accused others of superstition.

"What I use is numerology; what you use is superstitious witchcraft!"

"It's a profound field of study that explains the Warp using mathematical logic," Alexander took a deep breath and explained.

Reyna couldn't help but frown, muttering, "That sounds like something blasphemous."

"The mathematician I'm talking about isn't researching such improper things."

Reyna explained:

"She's an Actuary in the Upper hive, normally helping noble factories calculate accounts, and in her free time, she researches mathematics herself."

"So how can an Actuary and mathematician help you find the Warp Engine?"

Alexander's eye twitched slightly, and a bad premonition arose in his heart.

A mathematician... researching mathematics in this galaxy, that's not a safe job.

"Could it be that she calculated it through rigorous mathematical calculations?"

"Could it be that she was corrupted by Tzeentch and received revelations from numbers?"

Alexander didn't voice his thoughts.

"Why are your thoughts always so blasphemous?" Reyna showed some signs of fear.

She quickly lowered her head and whispered a couple of prayers, asking the Emperor to forgive her for listening to such blasphemous words.

"Her ancestor was once the route recorder for Ashford's first colony ship and possesses an ancient route archive passed down for over ten thousand years."

Reyna said to Alexander:

"As long as we get that archive, we can find the approximate location where Ashford's colony ship landed in the past, and also determine whether the Warp Engine has been dismantled."

"How do you know that Actuary and navigator has that archive?"

Alexander's brow furrowed even deeper:

"Don't tell me it's another revelation from the Emperor?"

Reyna's eyes flickered slightly at Alexander's words: "That's not it..."

Alexander's eyes showed even more suspicion.

"I have a reliable source of information," Reyna's voice was full of confidence.

Noticing the deep doubt still in Alexander's eyes, Reyna placed her finger on the Holy Word Records tattoo on her cheek again:

"I swear by the Emperor, my source of information is absolutely reliable and does not come from revelations, prophecies, or Warp illusions."

Alexander withdrew his doubtful gaze, but the suspicion in his heart had not diminished at all.

"So what do you want me to do?" Alexander asked, looking at Reyna.

Reyna's lips curved into a smile: "Originally, I just wanted to commission you to go to the Bottom Nest and bring back the Warp Engine."

"After all, you seem to have some ability to transport large items... Don't deny it, the volume and weight of that pile of autoguns were not small."

I'm not denying it, Alexander muttered in his heart.

"But now that I've seen your abilities, I hope you'll come with me to the Upper hive and steal that archive," Reyna said.

"You, and me, going to the Upper hive together?"

Alexander's mouth twitched.

This Ark Gang leader always managed to give Alexander countless things to complain about in a single sentence.

"First question, why you and me together?"

"Second question, how do you plan to get to the Upper hive?"

Alexander stared at Reyna and asked.

Between the Upper hive and the Lower Nest, there were PDF stationed.

Although Reyna and Alexander both had a certain level of strength, Reyna's persuasive words also had an advantage against such organized troops.

But... an illegal psyker forcing their way through the checkpoint between the Upper hive and the Lower Nest...

How was that different from open rebellion? What, did they want to taste the iron fist of the Cadian Shock Troopers?

The Astra Militarum stationed near Ashford were the famous Cadian Shock Troopers.

Let alone Reyna, an illegal psyker, even if a Chaos Greater daemon came, these Cadian super-soldiers would dare to charge.

"Why me... because only I know the location of that archive."

Reyna answered, but she hesitated a bit when faced with the second question.

"I'm trying to open up a channel, and there might be results soon..."

Unreliable, this woman is completely unreliable.

Alexander quickly made a judgment.

Her so-called channel was most likely smuggling into the Upper hive.

And they were going to the Upper hive to steal something; the security in the Upper hive was not the same as in the Lower Nest.

If she were caught and her illegal psyker identity exposed...

Cadian iron fist warning!

"I'll pay more!" Noticing Alexander's gaze, Reyna said without hesitation.

Facing Alexander's possible refusal, Reyna chose to directly increase the payment.

According to her experience, as long as the payment was high enough, there would always be people willing to take risks.

"Judging people really..." Alexander paused: "..really inaccurately."

Reyna was immediately left in an awkward daze.

Alexander looked at Reyna with a calm expression.

More money? His purpose for earning money was to stay alive!

He stroked his chin, a thought vaguely forming in his mind.

He thought of a way to safely and legally go to the Upper hive.

"I can consider it," Alexander's tone shifted, and he suddenly spoke.

Coming out of the Ark Gang's stronghold, Alexander walked along the crowded streets of the hive city, deep in thought.

"You seem troubled; do you need to consult the emperor tarot?"

Saying that, the figure of Sanguinius took out a deck of cards glowing with white light.

Alexander glanced at him, thought for a moment, and said, "Is that woman truly free of Chaos corruption?"

"No, but her psychic reaction is very strange," Sanguinius said.

"Strange?" Alexander raised an eyebrow.

"Yes... her psychic potential doesn't seem to be entirely innate, but rather deliberately induced."

Listening to the words of Sanguinius, Alexander fell into a brief contemplation.

Sanguinius gently flapped his wings and asked the contemplative Alexander:

"What are your thoughts? The child is not corrupted by Chaos, but he is indeed a bit abnormal."

"Me?"

Hearing the words of the winged figure of Sanguinius, Alexander's lips curved into a brilliant smile.

"I'll learn from Lager," he replied with a smile in his voice.

"Lager... that hive city gang member?" Sanguinius was stunned for a moment: "Learn what from him?"

"To be a middleman!"

Alexander replied with a chuckle, his footsteps stopping at a three-way intersection, in front of the magnificent statue of Sanguinius.

More precisely, he stopped at the entrance of the Spear Tavern.
