"Woah-! Canari has gone mad. She's gonna kill that newbie."
"She's too fierce. I don't know whether to cheer for her or to feel bad for the newbie."
"Hey…but do you know who he could be? All the people with this modifier are famous, right? But I don't recall any big incident happening recently…"
While people tried to figure out what was happening and who Cane was, Canari was going all out trying to kill him.
Her sword was sharp, and her shield blocked any amount of damage that was thrown her way. Cane could not hurt her, even if he wanted to.
This fight should have ended as soon as it started with Cane lying flat on his back. But that did not happen.
Instead, everyone blinked as they watched Cane dodge most of Canari's skills. And even those that hit did not end his life.
"How are you alive? There is a 100-level difference between us. Are you using hacks?"
Canari questioned as her sword nicked Cane once more. The damage she had dealt was likely more than a level 7's whole health cap. And yet, her opponent was not going down.
Cane gave her no reply. Instead, he focused on gaining some distance between himself and Canari.
Even he knew that his health should have fallen to zero a long time ago, but due to his last-minute saves, he was taking far less damage than anyone expected.
Moreover, his 500% recovery cheat allowed him to make up for most of the health lost.
Still, even he had no idea how he was not dead. He had felt that sword nick him more than once.
Cane was sure that the system had an answer for this, but he had no time to open and demand one. His body was beginning to get tired from all the dodging, and it was a miracle he had lasted as long as he did against someone 100 levels above him.
"Wait-! Can we talk about it-? The reason I have that modifier is because I am glitched…! No wait-!"
Cane's voice tried to reason, but Canari was already on the move. Her sword came down in an arc, piercing Cane's shoulder.
Pain assaulted Cane, and he waited for the system to log him out automatically. He waited…and waited…and waited…
But nothing happened. The system was not logging him out. On the other side, Canari was getting agitated as she looked at the system.
Her angry eyes looked at Cane next as she walked toward his fallen body.
Cane's vision hazed as he tried to get away from Canari. For someone yelling about 'justice' and 'protection,' she sure wasted no time disregarding anything he had to say.
While she was busy, Cane focused on breathing and stabilizing himself. Just a little more and he could open the system and make an escape.
"You…are still not dead? Just what kind of class and skill are you using…? What is your health number? Are you on 1 health-! Huh-! What the—"
Fog filled the training area, and Cane felt a hand grab his arm and pull him up.
He could make out hazy shapes not too far away and the sound of swords clashing reached his ears.
"Don't worry. We are here to help you get away from Canari. Don't worry, you will be just fine."
The man told him as he helped him out. On the other side of the room, two blades clashed.
"-Come on sweetheart. Don't tell me that's all the 'hero of justice' has in store? Oh-! Don't tell me that I injured you with my surprise attack?"
A female voice mocked Canari, and the fog slowly cleared to show her hunched over. She had taken critical damage.
She noticed that someone was helping Cane out of the training grounds, and she ignored the female attacking her to come after him.
Canari was fast, and Cane pushed the man helping him aside so that he wouldn't be caught by her attack. She was almost upon Cane when his body acted on its own.
Due to his skill Master Shooter (L), anything that could be used as a projectile had the potential to become a lethal weapon. That also included small objects surrounding him.
Cane picked up a small coin lying on his side before throwing it toward Canari. It was intended to distract her…but it ended up having even more of an impact than he expected.
The coin connected with her head and knocked her back. Everyone watched in shock as the female 'hero of justice' collapsed due to Cane's attack.
"W-Wait-! Did that newbie knock out Canari?"
"She was injured and all, but still…is that even possible? Isn't this too much?"
People gossiped, and Cane huffed to catch his breath.
[You have landed a critical hit on a player 100 levels above your current level. 10,000 exp gained. You have gained new drop from player Canari.]
[Absorber Modifier will be applied.]
[Recalculating your new exp]
[1,000,000 exp gained. 100X Sword of Holy Light obtained. 100X Sacred Elixir obtained. User has leveled up 6 → 10]
Cane watched, stunned, as his inventory suddenly had twenty S-ranked items. They were rare, and most people only had one or two after a week of non-stop grinding.
And now, he suddenly had 20 of them? Moreover, the single fight had leveled him up to level 10…which was not a lot. But it was understandable why the exp gain was so low.
The developers likely did not want to encourage PK in the local servers, so they made it not so profitable.
'Can I use them? Should I equip them right now? Can I equip them?'
Both S-ranked items were class-specific and could only be used by people of the Paladin class. Cane's class was NPC, so he was not sure if these items could be used by him or not.
He tried to equip them, only to be hit with a system message.
[User is underleveled to equip the assigned items. Level 50 and below cannot equip S-ranked items.]
The message taunted Cane, but since it did not say anything about incompatibility, it meant that he was safe in that regard.
"Hey, we should get moving. We might have managed to knock Canari out, but she won't be out forever. Besides, she had her whole guild behind her, and we don't have the manpower to take all of them on."
The player who saved him reminded him. His partner also came back quickly, her eyes scanning for any sign of danger.
"Ely, is the way clear?"
The player asked his partner, who shrugged as she looked around.
"I don't sense anyone around. This might be our best bet to get away. Come, follow me. I will show you how we can get away."
The female took the lead, and they both followed her. Cane noticed that more and more players were beginning to gather around the academy.
By the end of the day, the whole community would know what had happened there.
