Chapter 7 - wading through hell

POV: Noah

As the muscular archer had sent them off he got up and sighed. 'If they're as good as I think they're gonna live just fine.' still he was worried if he should have sent more reinforcements.

Suddenly a soldier came in to deliver a message. "It's from the war commander. He said it's time to move"

'this is really coming to an end'

"Sure, tell him I'll be there in just a moment."

with that Noah made shooing motion with one hand.

After the man left, Noah looked to the back of his tent. Their was a bunch of junk, from archery targets that he was too lazy to throw away to paperwork that he was purposefully letting pile up, having no intention of doing either.

to the furthest left their was a curtain. "Come on Daniel. since you insist on risking your neck you might as well be punctual"

He said with clear irritation in his voice.

out came a man with short blonde hair and green eyes in nothing but his robe and armor.

Anger was clear on his face.

"just because you got the lions share when it came to talent, doesn't mean you get to dictate how I live." Danial was barely keeping it together, speaking through his teeth.

Noah was began laughing while pinching his nose bridge with enough force to destroy a baseball. Scowling as he spoke, he said:

"You know I'm surprised you still have this level of audacity. A random man who I've NEVER ONCE saw on campus saved your ass!"

calming down a bit, he continued. "Look I get that what happened to her was terrible, I'm hurt too. But from what I'm seeing your in a hurry to make her sacrifice go to waste"

Daniel grabbed a practice dummy and threw it full force into Noah's head Before storming off.

It didn't do anything to him, but the hay bounced off at fast speeds, shredding a quarter of the tent. A loud boom resounded, alerting a crowd to the area.

"mother, I don't know how you did it.

If this is him as an adult I fear he would have been an orphan on my second day raising him as a child" Noah sighed looking into the sky.

a few moments later, he headed to the front of the camp, where everyone seemed to be gathering. everyone was clamoring as if it wasn't the middle of the night, taking good looks at their weapons, readying their bows and arrows, pre-chanting spells.

The platoon leader, towering over everyone with his imposing presence, was surprisingly quiet. It seemed he was allowing everyone to have a moment of clarity and preparation before the mission began. Standing next to him was a mage with a fur coat, slim figure and a pretty face. She would surely be what most conversations would center if people weren't in a rush to protect their own lives.

Her staff was in the shape of a rose.

She was on his left. To his right was another mage. He was wearing a black cloak that covered his figure. He had a blank mask with a mana stone in the middle. He was really pulling out all the stops this time.

Noah was able to separate the wheat from the chaff. Looking at the outfits of the people could give enough of an idea.

the mundane humans got nothing more than leather armor. The rank ones ranged from that to full platemail in wherever needed, even throw in a mana crystal or two if lucky.

as he walked through the crowd, many looked at him. He was one of the 20 professors whose jobs it was to instruct and train many of the people here.

on average they had to be a cut above the rest, so they were all of rank two. Some of the people in the bunch he was walking through were students he was instructing. he made sure to smile and nod when he noticed them.

Every professor was lined up behind the intimidating knight and what looked like his buddies. Each with a variety of weapons in hand and vastly different outfits. By this point they had each made small names for themselves in the camp.

once he got in line, everyone was ready.

The mage in the cloak snapped his fingers and a weird ringing sound played in everyone's ears. Once everyone's attention was on them, the spell stopped.

the knight in black didn't have much to say

"You know why we are here. We only stand here in mourning of those who will fall, for after this victory there will be stories and songs sung for us"

with that, he turned and began walking and soon everyone followed. The distance between here and the battlefield was long, but some had to sneak around to have their archers in position. They had longer.

it finally came into view. The enemy base, walled off with wood, and watchtowers peaking over the horizon. once their archers were in Position, the platoon commander pointed his sword at the base and everyone let loose.

people were flying, shooting flaming arrows and launching spells at the unsuspecting enemy patrols. Explosions rang out, many men being hit in the head with arrows, some were mana users and either blocked the arrows or dodged the spells. Others got lucky.

With the enemy now alerted, men began pouring out of their own encampments, the battle had begun.

men in the dozens poured through the fort, out into the fight. Eventually the bulk of their troops met, and a brutal melee ensued.

Noah then put his hand out in front of him. the storage ring on his finger glowed, before a bow, shimmering, appeared in his hands.

He he drew the string back, and an arrow appeared between his fingers courtesy of his ring again. Just as he let go, he infused mana into the arrow and let it fly.

faster than a speeding bullet, it split into multiple pieces each of those crashing into enemy lines before exploding, taking out vast swaths of infantry.

But other players were on the field.

As Noah was looking for people to assist

a fireball came hurling in his direction.

he was faster than normal however, infusing mana into his feet, he launched himself just far back enough in the nick of time.

he barely had time to dodge, 3 archers next to him got scorched. Looking up, he saw his aggressors. Once the smoke cleared he saw a swordsman within a fox mask on, stabbing down at a fallen archer who had resorted to trying him with a knife. His desperate attempt and his life cut short.

next he saw a mage. She had a chat over er left eye and a battle robe with a cape attached. Her staff was tipped with a skull that had a red gem on it's forehead.

A few archers tried to attack her but she simply put up a force field made of fire, before

immolating the ground underneath them, frying them in a pillar of fire.

drawing 4 arrows Noah began unleashing them, the swordsman noticed and tried to block all 4, smacking two out of the air, he dodged the other two, explosions ringing where he just left.

his arm was shaking. But he was laughing

"It looks like we won't have a boring time after all" his voice sounded shaky and unnatural.

Probably an effect of the mask

"Doesn't matter. I'll shoot it off of his face"

"There you are" the said the fire mage.

"I can't believe I missed so badly. Be a doll and stand still for me"

"You won't get that chance ever again" Noah said readying drawing his bow.
