A police officer drove us home to my house, since Kai's car was also evidence. We sat in the back seat in silence, hands intertwined, processing everything that had happened.
When we pulled up to my house, all the lights were on. Aunt Maria burst out the front door before the car even stopped.
"Aria Elena Sullivan!" She ran to the car, yanking the door open. "Sophie called me, told me you went to some warehouse, and then the police showed up asking questions"
She stopped, seeing my face, my torn dress, the bruises already forming on my neck. "Oh, baby."
She pulled me into her arms, and I finally broke down completely, sobbing into her shoulder.
"I'm okay," I managed between sobs. "I'm okay, Tía."
"You're not okay. You're very much not okay." She held me tighter. "But you will be."
Over her shoulder, I saw Kai standing awkwardly by the police car, looking lost.
