Kai's jaw tightened. "Are you asking us to leave?"
"No," Dr. Harrison said quickly. "Absolutely not. You did nothing wrong. I'm asking if you feel safe here, and what we can do to ensure that."
I exchanged a glance with Kai. "We want to finish senior year here," I said. "This is our school too. We shouldn't have to leave because other people have a problem with us doing the right thing."
"I agree completely." Dr. Harrison smiled slightly. "Which is why I've arranged for increased security. And I'll be making an announcement at this morning's assembly about harassment and threats. Anyone caught targeting either of you will face immediate expulsion."
"Thank you," Kai said, surprised.
"Don't thank me. This school failed you both failed to see what was happening under our noses, failed to protect Miss Sullivan from Marcus Chen's harassment, failed to notice the corruption on our own board." Dr. Harrison stood. "I won't fail you again."
The assembly was… intense.
