The name came into being after the cruel atrocities these foreign creatures caused to the people of then world then called IMPERIUM.
It all started a year ago, when an incident took place in one of the city of Insaria.
A human being, a farmer was found dead in the morning near the storehouse.
He was sucked out of life energy, totally dried out and almost unrecognizable.
From there started their acts of cruelty of killing the beings of Insaria, but a trend was seen. They mostly harmed beings who were less powerful than themselves hence they attacked the people with lower mana reserves.
This trend was found out by the investigators assigned from the imperial family.
They hence sent the team of knights and magicians and attacked those cruel beings.
They were easily defeated and taken to the prison for enquiry, but they couldn't speak anything were quite dumb as they did not understand anything and they had the following feature:
Huge black bodies with four short legs and four short hands and a single horn with a single eye in the middle.
And when they attacked somebody they left a black spider web like design on the chest region where mana spheres were present.
Their mechanism of attack was later found out to be their hands which elongated to catch their prey.
They were also found out to be quick in speed.
The Insarians thought this is to be their easy win and did not disclose it to the other kingdoms.
This was proved to be wrong, a worst nightmare then suddenly hit them.
These monsters were spawning from somewhere unknown their motives were still unknown.
And this time more powerful creatures erupted, 2 horns with 2 times faster, causing massive destruction everywhere in Insaria, the mages sent before were quite easily defeated as they were much powerful now.
The news soon spread across the world and this time the imperial family sought out a peace treaty with the nations of Morquine and Mesa.
Eleris was not invited as it remained isolated from the begining.
The imperial family convinced these nations to help them out as if they are wiped out it would be their chances soon.
They decided to co-operate, and Mesa, morquine, azeth and insaria all prepared for the war.
Citizens were told to evacuate the villages and given protection in the capital city of Insaria.
All those who could fight were told to, it was all out war.
It beacme easier to trace the cruel monsters with the help of saintess dani's tracking power, the magical devices and weapons created by the master of the guild of Mesa, Danver, the powerful curses of the demon king of azeth, Deux.
And lastly the head of the mage tower , Rica who made a groundbreaking discovery, use of the transportation crystals as compressed energy packets of massive energy.
Everything was going well, the war was predicted to end in a six months.
Many casualties were seen from all the four nations too.
These monsters were named as cruelmancers and given a tier corresponding to the number of horns as a status to indicate their power.
Three months had passed and victory was going to be of the beings of Imperium.It was all fine till the third tier cruelmancers, but on of the nights where the brightness of luna star was dimished slightly, a huge massacre took place in the capital city of Insaria, killing half the population of Insaria.
It was a tier four cruelmancer, a stronger creature, a formidable enemy with massive destructive powers.
It was also noticed as the tier was increased, they seemed to be more human like and were able to speak, but their black appearance mechanism of attack and speed skill remained the same.
No one was able to defeat such a enemy, everything was tried but to no avail.
It was estimated that it would take more a year to defeat this creature.
Hence, the human mage was send to eleris to seek for help.
They had huge reserves of spirit energy, a positive point, something which other mages lacked. The elves practically ruled the battlefield because of this power.
It was not yet found out where these creatures spawned from, but the battle was over in a month.
Their motives were clear to take away the treasures hidden in the sacred places of each kingdom. Some of them were found in the these places or they revealed it during hard and tough torture investigations.
But they were proved to be unsuccessful.
It only took four months in total to win the war named as the great war against cruelmancers.
