Chapter 15 - Secret

Recalling his previous life, he was just an ordinary person working from nine to five.

He was suffocated by the high housing prices, had no plans for the future, maintained extremely low desires, and was content to lie flat like a salted fish.

But now, in this world, he had broken free from the definition of an ordinary person; the salted fish had subtly flipped over.

Thinking of this, Lex felt a bit excited and wanted to test his strength.

"Becoming a Beyonder is not something to be happy about."

His mother's words poured down like a bucket of cold water: "My teacher once said that Extraordinaries are just pitiful worms walking on the edge of an abyss; one wrong step, and they will fall into the abyss called 'loss of control'."

"So Lex, don't get too excited, control your emotions. Only by knowing how to control your emotions can you fight against madness and avoid losing control."

Reminded by her, Lex realized he had indeed been a bit carried away, and quickly reined in his emotions, nodding in response: "I will remember your words."

Amelia smiled gently: "You don't need to be too nervous. The risk of losing control at low Sequence is not high, but you must always remain vigilant."

"Also, becoming a Beyonder, especially at the Sequence 9 level. Although you are already different from ordinary people, swords, knives, and firearms can still threaten you. Never be careless."

"Additionally, you also need to learn knowledge of the mystical Domain. You need to master more advanced meditation and be able to observe Spiritual Vision."

"You also need to learn Ancient Feysac, which is the origin of the written languages of the North Continent, and you may use it in the future. Furthermore, Hermes, which often appears in ancient tombs and is related to sacrifices and prayers, is also knowledge you need to master."

"I will also teach you ritual magic and knowledge related to making talismans. So you see, becoming a Beyonder is just the first step into the mysterious world."

As a former poor student, Lex's head felt bloated from listening, and he felt the pressure of learning, his brows couldn't help but furrow together.

Fortunately, his mother said: "However, you should rest for a day or two first. Once your body adapts to the changes brought by the potion, we can then begin learning mysticism."

Lex, of course, would not object to this decision.

That night, Lex did not sleep well.

His sensitive senses became a source of annoyance in the dead of night.

Lex heard insect chirps he usually couldn't hear, smelled various complex odors wafting in from outside the window, and lying in bed under the covers, he analyzed the materials of these objects through touch.

Finally, Lex used meditation to rein in his overly sensitive perception, and only then did he fall asleep.

The next morning, after Lex got up, he performed a ritual.

"Eye that sees everything."

"God that Oversees All Things."

"You are the controller of knowledge, You mock fate and toy with time."

"You are the witness of truth, the uncrowned king above the starry sky!"

A Mysterious Book appeared in his hand, and upon opening the cover, Lex saw that the information had changed.

Collection: 100+

Record: Your adventure biography has received over 100 collections and follows. You have gained 1 use of the 'message board' permission.

Lex looked down; the previous messages were still there, and replies had been added.

'Cloud-Treading White Gloves: Found a assassin's potion.'

'Who doesn't speak: Red Priest and Fool, my two favorite Pathways, and there's nothing above them yet'

'Flirty Old Man: A true man plays an assassin.'

Lex's mouth twitched slightly. How much these Observers must like the assassin Pathway. Based on my experience from my previous life, this Pathway definitely has problems!

Looking at the messages below, some more had been added.

'A S-grade creature who gave up thinking: If you're going the Hunter Pathway, you should be able to find Anderson. He should be recruiting people for Sea adventures now (if I'm mistaken, then I didn't say anything)'

Praise the Observers!

Just yesterday he was worried about not having clues for the Hunter Pathway, and this Reader provided one. Anderson, good, I've noted that name! Lex continued to look down.

'Strange knowledge has increased again: What should I say? HMMMMMMMM… Good.'

There's a strange Reader here.

'No. 20191117152521520: The book is quite interesting.'

'Cloud-Treading White Gloves: Friend, trust me, go to the Theosophy Order and become an assassin.'

It's you again!

'Let fate bring us together here: No choice, since you're going the Hunter Pathway, have you thought about how to cling to Mr. Klein's leg? I remember he later seemed to…'

Mr. Klein? Is it the protagonist Klein from the original novel? Does he know clues about the Hunter Pathway? This Reader knows a lot of information, but unfortunately, my permissions are not enough to see the rest.

I should be able to read it when my permissions increase in the future.

'No. 20210517202131878: Hmm, if I really had to choose, there's only one above Prophet…'

This Reader, whose specific name is unknown, also knows quite a bit, and it seems there's a typo; it should probably be Seer.

There were no more messages below. By this point, Lex's head was starting to throb, and he felt a great deal of mental exhaustion. Having no questions to ask for now, he dismissed the summon.

It was still early, and he hadn't called his personal valet. Lex opened the window, looked at the garden, and fell into deep thought.

'Indeed, through the Beyonder potion, I can obtain a lot of useful information. Now I basically know how to proceed after Hunter Sequence 8.'

'I can go find that Anderson, or I can consider contacting the protagonist from the original novel.'

'Additionally, I know about the existence of Playacting, which can help me digest the potion faster for promotion.'

'I know that the key to Playacting lies in the name of each potion, playing the role indicated by the potion's name. Just like Klein, after becoming a Seer, he joined a club and played the role of a 'Seer' by providing divination services to guests.'

'Through the process of Playacting, summarize the Playacting rules, and thus digest the potion!'

Lex lightly patted his cheek: "So, to digest the potion, I need to start by playing a 'Hunter'?"

Speaking of hunters, Lex remembered something Matthew had mentioned.

'Recently, there have been wild wolves. Father Bison has entrusted Lyon, a famous Hunter in Town, to organize some hunters to go into the Eberly Mountain for hunting.'

Lex, who had no hunting experience whatsoever, immediately made a connection and had an inspiration.

"I can visit these hunters and learn from them. Perhaps I can gain some inspiration!"

With an idea and a direction, Lex immediately put it into action. He opened his wardrobe, looking for clothes suitable for outdoor activities.

As he pushed aside a few formal suits, he suddenly noticed that deep inside the wardrobe, there was a wooden board whose color didn't match the surrounding ones.

Lex tapped it with his finger, and a hollow echo came from the board, indicating there was space behind it.

He made several attempts and finally pushed open the board. Indeed, there was a hidden compartment inside the wardrobe.

Several items hung in the hidden compartment: a dark brown, double-breasted, high-collared long trench coat; a black, iron mask that only exposed the eyes; and a long-barreled, golden yellow revolver with a running wolf pattern on the grip.

Lex was stunned; there was no information about this hidden compartment in the original owner's memory.

But clearly, these things belonged to him.

"So, this noble young master was playing a rogue game?"

Lex took out the mask and tried it on his face; it fit perfectly.

He then took out the golden revolver and found that the material was not pure gold. He spun out the cylinder, and it was full of bullets.

As for the long trench coat, he found a flyer in its pocket.

A flyer for 'Sea Monster Bar'.

Lex knew about this bar; it was located on Kingston Road, where workers, paupers, and hooligans lived. It was a mixed bag of people, especially the Sea Monster Bar.

There were rumors that the bar secretly engaged in illegal activities.

It seemed the original owner had been to that bar.

What was a noble young master doing going to such a place?

Lex frowned in thought, but he couldn't recall any information about it. A knock sounded, and Matthew's voice came from outside the door.

"Sir, are you awake?"

Lex quickly put the items back into the hidden compartment, closed it, and took out a hunting suit.

He allowed the valet to enter and, with his assistance, put on the hunting suit. Lex also brought the snake-scale revolver, ensuring it was loaded with bullets.

Seeing this action, the valet asked with a slight hint of tension: "Sir, are you…?"

Lex didn't hide anything and said directly: "I want to visit the Hunter Lyon. Do you know where he is?"

Matthew thought for a moment and gave the answer: "I heard last night that they finished their first patrol and spent the night at the Baron's logging camp."

"Today, they will enter the Eberly Mountain range again, but they won't go deep, only hunting in the peripheral areas."

"If there really are wild wolves in the mountains."

Lex nodded, full of initiative, and walked out: "Eat breakfast, then we'll go to the logging camp. Do you know how to use a hunting rifle?"

"Mr. Shire has taught me marksmanship, but I'm not very proficient." The valet quickly followed.

"Very good. You'll also take a hunting rifle later. We're going hunting today."

After breakfast, Lex briefly informed them of their itinerary and took his valet to the stables. Three purebred horses, common in the Loen Kingdom, were kept here. These horses were known for their speed over short to medium distances and good endurance, making them excellent for riding or pulling carriages.

There were also two types of carriages in this house: one was an open-top carriage, where one could enjoy the surrounding scenery while sitting inside and use it to show off one's status to people on the street, but due to its open-top nature, it could only be used on sunny days.

The other was a four-wheeled sedan carriage, which was heavier but could block wind and rain, making it the perfect choice for short to medium-distance travel and rainy days.

The former, being lighter, could be pulled by one horse. The latter required two, and some larger sedan carriages even needed four horses to pull them.

"Good morning, young master, are you going out?"

Hearing the commotion, a middle-aged man in his early fifties walked out of the stables. He had dark skin, a lean build, and bright eyes.

Despite his age, he gave off a vibrant impression. This was Old Cook, one of Lex's coachmen, known as the 'walking encyclopedia'.
