Chapter 33 - Volunteering

"April 15th, in just ten days, Sera looks like she's five or six months pregnant. She's so lucky, she's the chosen one of the Gods."

"April 30th, Sera is almost ready to give birth. The important child is about to arrive, I'm so excited. I have to say, Mr. Heimerk really helped me out a lot!"

"May 2nd, they were born, and there were two of them! Haha."

"May 3rd, damn it, one of the children died prematurely. What am I going to do?"

Old Cook said that Ain bragged about having two healthy grandchildren, but it turned out one of them died prematurely, and the other became a murderer?

Lex shook his head: "If that's the case, wouldn't the murderer be only two months old? This must be the youngest murderer in Loen Kingdom's history."

He continued to read.

"May 7th, a miracle happened. So that's how it is…"

A miracle, what miracle?

"May 14th, the remaining child is growing so fast, but his appetite is huge. His mother's milk is far from enough for him. Last night, he even tried to eat Sera."

"May 21st, I had Old Ain buy some livestock to feed this child. He needs a lot of flesh and blood."

"May 27th, he seems no longer satisfied with just animal flesh and blood. It looks like I'll have to find him something else. Hmm, there are quite a few vagrants in this Town, and quite a few brainless workers too. If one or two of these people disappear, it probably won't be noticed. But I can't show my face personally, I'm a stranger to this Town. I need to think of a way."

"May 29th, I have to say, there are quite a few fools in this Town. That old woman has already believed my words, believing herself to be a favored one of the night. It's truly ridiculous. However, she will be a good helper."

"June 3rd, I was right, Paris has already brought me a vagrant. It seems a bit wasteful to just use him to feed that child. Oh right, I can give her the prayer incantation. Firstly, to make her believe even more that she is the chosen one. Secondly, to make full use of these vagrants. They can first serve as offerings, and then become 'food.' I really am a Genius!"

So that's how it was.

Paris's favored one of the night came about like this. That old woman was used, and those poor people tricked by Paris became both offerings and food.

Lex's mood gradually grew heavy, feeling that every word in this diary was seeping with blood, but he silently continued to read.

"June 7th, Gore, well, that child. That's the name Old Ain gave him, it's really unpleasant. Never mind, he's just a tool anyway, a name doesn't matter. In short, Gore has been a bit out of control lately. He actually snuck off to the mountains behind my back, but because of that, I discovered that he has the ability to change and control animals."

"June 14th, this little scoundrel actually ran off to the Town. Damn it, he can't be known by others yet. I need to teach him a good lesson!"

Lex noticed that in this entry, the diary's owner changed the way he referred to the child, which seemed to indicate that his perception of this 'child' was changing.

"June 25th, I'm going crazy, this little scoundrel killed someone! I've already provided him with food, and he's still not satisfied! Damn it, it's not time yet."

"July 8th, alright, he killed another person at the Town's hotel. It seems I can only hide him in the mountains…"

"July 11th, he ran back from the mountains. He claimed he was attacked, what an uncooperative scoundrel."

"July 12th, big trouble. According to his description, the person who attacked him seems to be the Town's baron's son. Before this, he had already encountered that boy named Lex once, in Memorial Square. This scoundrel keeps causing me trouble. What do I do now, kill that boy? But he's a noble, so troublesome…"

"July 15th, this is truly an unfeeling monster. He actually killed his own grandfather and mother."

"July 16th, it's that Lex again, that damned fellow again! How did he end up at Paris's house? Scoundrel, I was just separated from him by a door at that time. I shouldn't have hesitated. If I had acted, I wouldn't have let him escape, I wouldn't have let him call the Police, and I wouldn't have lost Paris, such a useful tool!"

Seeing this, Lex couldn't help but be startled.

Was the diary's owner at Paris's house at that time? Suddenly, Lex remembered that there was a room in Paris's basement. Could it be that the owner of this diary was in that room at the time?

"July 17th, time is a bit tight. For that matter, I need a larger number of offerings. Huh, I think I hear the sound of a carriage."

This was the last diary entry.

Closing the diary, Lex quickly walked out of the room, just in time to see Lewis and the others coming out.

"Inspector, you need to see this." Lex presented the diary he had found.

Lewis flipped through a few pages, and his expression changed: "Now we're in trouble."

He handed the diary to the other two. Martha saw the last page and exclaimed softly: "He wants a larger number of offerings, so aren't the people in this Town in danger?"

Lewis nodded: "Today's search ends here. We'll go back immediately. We need to see the mayor and Kaosi to discuss a countermeasure."

They hurried downstairs, left the farmhouse, and returned to the carriage.

As the carriage headed towards the Town, inside the compartment, Lex said: "Inspector, I have a suggestion."

Lewis glanced at him: "Please speak."

Lex pointed to the diary held in Jeffrey's hand: "The strange things that have been happening in our Town lately were all orchestrated by the owner of this diary."

"The diary also mentions that he hates me very much. I think we can use this to lure him out."

The three Inspectors exchanged glances in surprise. Miss Red-Hair Martha reminded him: "In that case, you would be taking on a lot of risks."

Lex straightened his back and said: "But the diary also said he needs a large number of offerings. If my risk can resolve this matter as soon as possible and prevent a disaster from happening."

"Then, I'm very willing to take the risk."

Lewis nodded slightly: "Your courage is admirable. How about this, we will take your suggestion into consideration. If needed, we will notify you again. How does that sound, Mr. Lex?"

Lex nodded in agreement.

The carriage took them to the Police Station in the Town. Only then did Lex bid farewell and leave. Watching the carriage drive away, Lewis adjusted his black-rimmed glasses and said to Martha.

"This time, your card reading was very accurate. Baron Bison's son really did help us. We got a lot of information and clues from him without much effort."

Martha proudly puffed out her chest, which made her curves even more alluring, causing a passing police officer to get distracted and bump into a pillar.

"Of course, I've always said that my spiritual intuition is very accurate."
