Chapter 4 - Bookworm

Alright, it looks like everyone has brought forward something except...

You with the white cat-eared headphones, are you ignoring me? Did you not hear the rules I stated for all the passengers to make it out alive? The leader glared at me, obviously pissed, but I didn't dare to look up. It wasn't because I was afraid but simply because I couldn't care less. Why would I? When I have this amazing book in front of me when I'm in my reading zone, it's almost like I migrate into the book, so I normally block out the entire world from view to have the best experience possible.

I said, "Hey, you!!" Do you have mud in your ears, or did you not hear anything I said?

Without paying the man a single glance, I wiped the spit off my face that blew on my cheek through his barbaric yelling, and it seemed to piss him off more because now there were visible veins popping out underneath his skin while his face turned another darker shade of red. It was clear he was losing it, but I didn't care. I kept on reading my book, and in a few minutes I'd flick my finger on the screen and turn to the next chapter while cocking one of my legs over my lap, showing no intention of listening to a word he was saying.

And I could feel it.... The sense of fear and desperation from the passengers in this moment—I could smell it so bad that it shackled my feelings to the ground and made me sick. The smell was so near that it felt as if I could almost touch it, but still it didn't faze me when the leader started to storm at me within my view and didn't stop until he planted his feet right in front of me, staring at me as if I were a piece of roadkill.

His eyes were on mine, but I didn't look up. No way was I going to look up and face the dark, tall, possibly psychotic figure, and then what next? A casual conversation with the attacker and his group of men? I'm not setting myself up for failure I've read about scenes like this many times. I should use it to my advantage, and that I did by taking off my headphones and turning off my phone before looking around to take in my surroundings. I may be engrossed in my books every time I read, but I still make my little observations about it because that's who I am. It's exactly what I imagined the moment these men boarded this train.

"Who are you people?"

I pretended to be clueless about what was going on because the moment I did, the man would think I was some kind of rude, ignorant person and blow my head clean off my shoulders.

I said, "Who are you people, and what's going on here?" I was simply reading my book, feeling all relaxed, and then heard some kind of commotion, so I had to see what was going on so I could fix it and go back to my reading session.

The people on board shared shocked faces as well as the hijackers, but the one who showed the most surprised look was the leader; his mouth was wide open and eyes were popping out of his head. He looked like he just saw a ghost, and he shared the same look the passengers did. They probably thought I was crazy, stupid, or just downright idiotic for doing something this nuts.

Well???

Are you going to say something to me or not? I don't have all day here.

*coughs* *coughs*

"Oh, right, I was saying if you have anything to give of value just drop it in the bag or else i will rip your heart of your chest to bits if you do not comply with me You're a schoolgirl; it looks like the first day of college. You seem smart enough to give up what you have in peace."

i tilted my head slightly to the side and stood up properly from my seat, now matching the leader's position while puffing my chest out to look more like a predator than prey. I wasn't going to be eaten by these men nor give what i had to them. I may be asking for death but this bookworm is high and mighty.
