Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: The Silence After the Screams

Hearing Robbin's words, while Sarah's body—still controlled by Emma's spirit—stood in stunned silence, everyone else in the room stared at Robbin with equal shock.

"Robbin, think carefully about what you're saying," Stephnie warned gently. "Saying it is easy, but carrying the responsibility is far more difficult."

"Stephnie, I've already thought it through," Robbin replied firmly. "I am completely ready to take responsibility for Emma's little sister." His voice carried a clear, unwavering confidence.

Tears welled up in the eyes of Emma's spirit inside Sarah's body. She moved closer to Robbin and spoke softly, "If you're truly promising to get my sister treated and take responsibility for her, then I'm even willing to let go of the revenge for my and my dad's death. In fact, it makes me happy that what my dad and I couldn't achieve while alive… our death has finally done."

Suddenly, a bright white light appeared—sent for Emma. Her final wishes had been two things: to avenge her own and her father's death, and to ease the constant worry she had for her sister. Now that both problems had found their solutions, God had opened her path to the afterlife. At that moment, Emma's spirit left Sarah's body, and now everyone could see Emma clearly.

She appeared beautiful, around nineteen or twenty, and after pausing, she turned to Claire to thank her. Claire had been the first to understand Emma and give her a chance to speak. Continuing, Emma said, "Claire, I'm going to the afterlife now, and I'm truly grateful for the support you gave me. I'm also ashamed for taking Adam's life… but he was the one who threw my body deep into the forest, where some people burned it. A few days ago, he came here to inspect the site, and when he saw my body, he used his contacts to remove it so he could come here with his friends and shoot videos."

"It's okay, Emma," Claire said, waving her hand in a gentle goodbye. "Forget all your problems now and go peacefully to the afterlife. You'll be able to take rebirth… and meet your dad again."

Just then, Emma's spirit suddenly turned back, as if remembering something crucial. She rushed to the Ghost Mentors team and said, "I forgot to tell you something important. It's 2:30 AM right now. Leave this place as fast as you can. The stories about the doctor's spirit haunting the ninth floor aren't rumors—they're real. Every night at 3 AM, that spirit haunts this building, and anyone who accidentally enters is taken for a post-mortem." With those final words, Emma's spirit vanished into the white light.

But after hearing about the doctor's spirit, everyone standing there felt their blood run cold. Jennifer finally broke the silence. "Emma's spirit really is dramatic. Even while leaving, she scared the hell out of us. Anyway, we were going to leave this place anyway, so someone pick up Sarah's unconscious body and let's get out of this cursed building."

After Emma's spirit left Sarah's body, Sarah had fainted from weakness—and she was going to remain that way for the next hour or two.

"Jennifer, you don't understand—spirits don't lie the way humans do. If Emma's spirit said a doctor's ghost is here, then that spirit will definitely haunt this building at 3 AM. That's why all of you need to get out of here. Claire, Lily, and I will stay back and stop that doctor's spirit from following you," Stephnie said, answering Jennifer while looking at everyone.

"But Stephnie, it's not safe for you and your friends to stay here either. You should come with us," Robbin tried to reason with her.

"Look, Robbin! It's true that we came here to help you, but our primary responsibility is to guide wandering spirits to the right path. So take your friends and leave the building as soon as possible," Stephnie said, signaling Robbin to go.

As soon as she said that, Robbin, Amily, Christopher, and Jennifer began to leave, with Sarah's unconscious body supported between Robbin and Amily on their shoulders. Now, the Ghost Mentors team stood ready to face the doctor's spirit Emma had warned them about—the one that appeared precisely at 3 AM.

Then Lily glanced at the clock. Only five minutes remained until 3, and Robbin and his friends were still only on the first floor. Seeing this, Lily shouted toward Robbin, "Robbin, hurry! Only five minutes left! The moment you all get outside the building, honk your car horn—we'll understand you made it out safely!"

Hearing her, Robbin shouted back a loud yes. At that exact moment, the weather shifted violently. Strong winds began to roar, and the broken, old objects scattered inside the building started falling and sliding around, as if an earthquake was shaking the entire place from within.

Stephnie, Claire, and Lily exchanged tense glances. Claire looked down at her watch and began counting down, "10… 09… 08… 07… 06… 05… 04… 03… 02… 01."

The moment Claire finished, they heard the car horn from below—Robbin and the others had made it out safely. And just then, a thick black smoke spilled out from the doctor's room on the ninth floor. Along with it came a horrifying laugh that shook the very foundation of the building.

"Are you both ready?" Claire asked her friends.

"What could be more exciting, Claire? Today we're getting back-to-back action. Whoever this doctor's spirit is, fighting it is going to be fun—it reminds me of our first case," Lily said with a grin, holding a cross in her hand.

But in the next instant, an uncanny silence spread across the entire building. Even the little light that had been coming in seemed to fade away. Stephnie signaled Claire and Lily to stay alert and sat down on the floor, closing her eyes to sense the exact location of the doctor's spirit.

But the doctor's spirit was fast—extremely fast. It darted from place to place in a blink, making it difficult for Stephnie to pinpoint its location. At that moment, Claire took the enchanted salt bottle from Stephnie's purse and created a protective circle around herself and her two friends, so the spirit couldn't harm Stephnie or Lily.

But the very next moment, a terrifying sound echoed through the building, freezing the blood of all three girls.

"After such a long time, I finally get to drink the blood of three people at once. But looking at the youth of this tall girl, my mouth is practically watering. If I were human, I would've enjoyed her youth properly… and tasted every inch of her body," the doctor's spirit said, pointing toward Lily.

"Then what are you waiting for, darling? Come to me. Let me wrap you in my arms and see whether you're as passionate inside as you pretend to be with your words—or if you're just an empty firecracker that looks ready to explode but gives nothing but smoke once lit," Lily mocked, making fun of the spirit.

Seeing Lily insult him, the doctor's spirit filled with rage and started breaking the building walls.

"Lily, what are you doing? Why are you provoking that spirit?" Claire asked, staring at her in shock.

Hearing Claire, Lily smiled and replied, "If I make this spirit angry, it will definitely do something reckless. And once it makes a mistake, we'll capture it and send it to the afterlife."

Claire finally understood Lily's intention, and she felt relieved that even in such a tense moment, Lily's mind was still sharp. But the next second, Lily let out a loud scream—the doctor's spirit had thrown a large stone at her from nearby. Fortunately, Lily managed to dodge just in time. At that moment, Stephnie opened her eyes and spoke to Claire and Lily.

"This spirit isn't like other spirits. It has been deliberately released from hell and sent to earth so it can kill humans and trap their souls. It's extremely powerful, and we cannot fight it. We need to get out of here."

Hearing this, Claire and Lily were stunned. All three of them had faced many spirits together before, and not once had Stephnie refused to send a spirit to the afterlife. If she was saying this today, it meant only one thing—the doctor's spirit was truly dangerous.

Meanwhile, somewhere else, Micheal was talking to Lucifer about where they needed to go next and which souls had to be returned to hell.

"Micheal, you've been doing good work so far, and if you continue like this, I might soon free your soul from hell and send it to the afterlife," Lucifer said, pleased with Micheal's performance.

"Lucifer, I've grown tired of doing this. I want to stop now. Free my soul and give me back my memories so I can go to the afterlife," Micheal replied.

"Yes, fine, I'll see about that later. Now tell me—where is Mercy?" Lucifer asked, noticing she wasn't with Micheal.

"She went somewhere. I don't know where," Micheal replied bluntly.

"Alright, Micheal. Leave for the USA now. Gandolf informed me there are many spirits there terrorizing human lives. Go there and send those spirits back to hell. Also, I've been in talks with God recently about returning to heaven. So stop contacting me again and again." Saying this, Lucifer ended the connection, and Micheal sat there waiting for Mercy so that the moment she arrived, they could leave for the USA.

The doctor's spirit launched a powerful attack on all three girls, but because of the protective circle surrounding them, it couldn't cause any major harm. However, the strong winds suddenly blew away the salt circle around Claire, and the doctor's spirit immediately dragged her out of the protection and slammed her against the wall. Blood started dripping from Claire's head.

Seeing Claire in danger, Stephnie and Lily rushed toward her, but in the next moment, the doctor's spirit used its power to freeze Stephnie in place. Then it approached Lily and, squeezing her breasts, said, "What's wrong, darling? You missed me a lot, didn't you? You wanted my love, right? Well, now no one will disturb us. Tell me, will you entertain me by stripping right here, or should I tear your skin off along with your clothes?" Saying this, the spirit extended its long tongue and licked Lily's entire body.

Lily now realized that provoking the doctor's spirit had been the biggest mistake of her life—but it was too late to undo it. Claire lay wounded near the wall, Stephnie was groaning in pain from her injuries, and Lily was trapped in the doctor's spirit's grip.

At that moment, Claire spotted a cross in Stephnie's bag—the same one Stephnie had removed from her neck to give Robbin earlier. Robbin had returned it to her before leaving, but in the rush, Stephnie had forgotten to wear it again. As soon as Claire saw the cross, an idea struck her: if she could somehow get the cross around the doctor's spirit's neck, it would burn him to ash. Since the doctor's spirit could never enter the afterlife, there was only one place fit for him—hell.

Claire noticed the spirit slowly sliding its hands up Lily's thighs, moving toward her waist. Lily struggled desperately, but the spirit was too powerful for her to escape. Then Claire's gaze shifted to Lily's neck. She realized that the enchanted cross Stephnie had given both her and Lily was missing from Lily's neck—which explained why the spirit had been able to overpower her so easily. Claire looked around and found Lily's cross broken on the floor near the salt circle—likely shattered when the spirit hurled that heavy stone at her.

Claire closed her eyes, remembered her father, then stood up in a single determined motion. She reached into Stephnie's purse and grabbed Stephnie's cross, moving quickly toward the doctor's spirit.

But before she could slip the cross over the spirit's neck, it sensed her presence and grabbed her by the throat.

Now the doctor's spirit held Claire in one hand and Lily in the other. Both girls struggled violently to break free, but every attempt failed. And then—suddenly—the spirit's head jerked forward as something struck it hard… an iron rod slammed against its skull, distracting it for a brief moment.

In truth, Robbin had come back to help his sister Stephnie, and it was he who picked up an iron rod lying nearby and struck the doctor's spirit on the head. Even though his blow couldn't actually hurt the spirit, it gave Claire and Lily the chance they needed to escape from its grasp. The next second, the doctor's spirit turned toward Robbin and grabbed him by the throat. With its other hand, it slashed at his stomach with its sharp nails. Robbin tried to dodge, but the claws scraped across his abdomen, leaving a deep cut that began bleeding instantly. But in that very moment, Claire seized the opportunity and slipped Stephnie's enchanted cross around the spirit's neck.

The moment Claire did it, the doctor's spirit burst into flames and began running wildly in agony. No matter how powerful an evil force was, it could never prevail against the power of God—and they were witnessing that truth before their eyes.

Robbin ran to support Stephnie, while Lily—stumbling from exhaustion—helped Claire stand.

"Looks like this mental asylum has finally been freed from the doctor's spirit," Claire said as she watched the spirit burn.

"When I told you to leave, why didn't you go with your friends, Robbin?" Stephnie scolded, glaring at him.

"Because, Stephnie, if I had left today, people would say a sister fulfilled her duty, but her brother failed to protect her. So I came back—and just at the right time. Otherwise, that doctor's spirit would've recorded the Ghost Mentors' video and uploaded it online," Robbin joked, and everyone burst into laughter. They started walking out of the building, because the Ghost Mentors had successfully completed another case, and their work there was finally done.

Meanwhile, in London, Mercy had returned to Micheal, who was practicing a spell from his spellbook.

"So, my prince, did you finish talking to Lucifer?" Mercy asked Micheal.

"Yes, Mercy, and we have to leave for the USA immediately." Micheal shrunk his spellbook into a small pocket-sized book and slipped it into his overcoat.

"So tell me, are we going to travel like humans on a flight—which we don't have money for—or are you planning to take me on a flying date to America with your black wings?" Mercy teased him.

"We're going by flight. And who said we don't have money?" Micheal said as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a stack of dollar bills—created from magic through his spellbook.

A moment later, Mercy and Micheal were at the airport, checking the flight timings for the USA.

And now, the story was approaching the moment when the Ghost Mentors' team would soon come face-to-face with Micheal and Mercy—but none of them had any idea what would happen when these two groups, with entirely different motives, finally met.
