Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Buried Truths, Unburied Souls

After watching the video, Claire and Lily were filled with anger toward Christopher, Adam, Amily, Sarah, and Jennifer. And Lily stepped forward and slapped Christopher hard across the face."How can you people be so heartless? You hit a man with your car, and instead of taking him to the hospital, you stood there recording his video," Lily said, tears forming in her eyes.

Then Claire spoke from behind, "I don't know why Emma's spirit wants to kill you all, but if you manage to come out of this building alive, I will make sure the law punishes every one of you."

But Christopher, Jennifer, and Amily still couldn't remember anything. So Lily showed them that video again, and after watching it, the incident of that night returned to their memory, and their heads lowered in shame.

Then Amily said, "I am very ashamed of my friends and of my own carelessness, because if we had helped that man that night, maybe he could have survived. Because a few days after we returned, Sarah had read a piece of news in the newspaper—that a man's body was found on that same road. He had been hit by an unknown vehicle, and due to excessive bleeding, he died. If he had received medical help on time, maybe he could have lived."

But Jennifer still didn't seem affected, because the very next moment, with the same attitude, she said, "Whatever happened that day, we'll deal with it later. First tell me—how will you people save us from Emma's spirit?"

Hearing Jennifer's words, Claire became furious and said to Stephnie, "Stephnie, I will save everyone, but let Jennifer die right here. I don't see any sign of being human inside her anyway."

But then Stephnie explained to Claire that even though Jennifer and her friends had taken a man's life, only the law had the right to punish them. So she told Claire that after coming out of this building, they would give this video to the police, and then the police would punish them for their wrong deeds.

Then Stephnie spoke again, "But we still don't know why Emma's spirit has enmity with all of them, and why she wants to take their lives."

Hearing Stephnie's question, silence filled the place. And at that very moment, they all heard a mixed voice of Sarah and Emma saying, "Because those bastards didn't take just one life that night—they took two."

Hearing this through Sarah's body, everyone present turned pale, and they all looked at each other in shock.

"Stephnie, I think Emma's spirit wants to tell us something. We need to talk to Emma's spirit once so we can learn the real reason behind this case," Claire said, looking at Stephnie.

"I agree with Claire. We must talk to Emma's spirit once, so that we can know what kind of low, disgusting people these so-called students are, and whose two lives they took," Lily said, supporting Claire.

"Fine, if both of you want this, then wait—let me try talking to Emma's spirit." Saying this, Stephnie shouted and called out to Emma's spirit, "Emma! What are you trying to say? We aren't able to understand you. Look, I am Stephnie from The Ghost Mentors' team. I and my friends want to talk to you if you promise that you won't harm Robin or anyone else."

But silence spread through the place, and there was no reply from Emma's spirit. Because of that, Stephnie called out to her once again, but still Emma's spirit did not respond. Seeing this, Stephnie looked toward Claire and Lily.

On the other side, Micheal and Mercy were sitting on the roof of London's tallest building, eating sandwiches.

"Micheal, no matter how bad humans are, they do make good food," Mercy said while taking a bite of her sandwich.

"Yes, Mercy, you're right. And when you eat these sandwiches with cold coffee, the taste becomes twice as good," Micheal said, closing his eyes and enjoying the flavor.

"Yes, humans make delicious things, and then after eating them they die of cholesterol and diseases, and then they keep wandering. And my blades send them to the right place again." Saying this, Mercy burst into loud laughter.

"I was just wondering how you suddenly praised humans. Honestly, Mercy, you will never change." And saying that, Micheal also started laughing with her.

Maybe Lucifer had not given Micheal and Mercy any new orders yet, so both of them were spending their free time joking around like this. But in the asylum, the situation had become very tense, because Jennifer and Christopher wanted to leave the building as soon as possible, but after watching their accident video, The Ghost Mentors did not want them to leave without freeing Sarah from Emma's spirit. To some extent, even Amily wanted Sarah to escape from this trouble with them, because Sarah was a much closer friend to her. And now, silently, Amily had also begun to like Robin, because Robin had supported her at every step and had saved her from the spirit many times.

But when Emma's spirit didn't respond even after a long time, Claire shouted loudly, "Emma! My name is Claire. I can understand your pain. I know that even though you are a spirit, you are scared right now. I know these people did something wrong to you, and that is why my friends and I want to help you. But unless you tell us everything, we won't be able to help you."

Saying this, Claire turned toward Lily and Stephnie. Claire felt that maybe Emma's spirit wouldn't respond to her either. But surprisingly, Emma's spirit answered through Sarah's body, "Claire! I am ready to talk to all of you, and I won't harm anyone. But tell your host to blow out that candle."

Hearing the spirit's words, Claire looked toward Stephnie. But Stephnie quietly told Claire, "Claire, the spirit is still very angry right now, and in this situation, we can't trust her. This enchanted candle is the only thing stopping her from attacking us. If I blow it out, she might go back on her word and attack all of us." Lines of tension were clearly visible on Stephnie's face at that moment.

"Fine, then we will do one thing. Stephnie, you stay here with these students in the candlelight. Lily and I will go ahead and talk to Emma's spirit," Claire suggested as a solution to the problem.

But Robin and his friends also said that they wanted to know why Emma's spirit wanted to take all of their lives. When everyone insisted on talking to Emma as well, Claire told Stephnie, "Fine, place the candle on the wall behind us and make everyone stand within its light. And Lily, you and I will stand a little further ahead, where the candlelight cannot reach. That way, these people will also learn what they did to Emma's spirit that made her so angry she wants to kill them."

Everyone liked Claire's idea, and they agreed. Then Claire and Lily stepped a little forward. Claire said, "Emma, we are ready to listen to you. You can come to us now."

Hearing Claire's words, Sarah—supported on her stiff, twisted legs—began walking toward Claire and Lily. She looked extremely terrifying as she approached, and half of her face, which was visible in the dim light, showed pure pain, as if something terribly cruel had happened to her.

"Claire, even if I forgive these people for what they did to me, they have destroyed my entire family," Emma's spirit said through Sarah's body in a crying voice.

"Tell us, Emma, without fear—what exactly happened to you?" Claire said as she moved forward without hesitation and took Sarah's hand in her own, hoping that this gesture would make Emma's spirit trust her and speak openly.

Then Emma's spirit said, "The man these people hit that night wasn't just anyone… he was my dad."

The moment Emma's spirit said this, the mouth of every person present there fell open in shock.

"Your dad?" Lily asked, stunned, looking directly at Emma's spirit.

"Yes, he was my dad. And to understand what happened that night, you need to know the full story of that night. My dad and I lived in a backward area of New York. My mother died six years ago while giving birth to my younger sister. After that, my dad gave both of us—two daughters—the love of both a mother and a father.

My younger sister has been unable to hear or speak since childhood, so the doctors told us that her treatment would cost one hundred thousand dollars because she needed surgery. My dad alone could never collect that much money, so I took a job as a strip dancer in a night bar so that I could earn something for the house. My dad also worked in the same bar as a waiter and protected me whenever a customer misbehaved with me.

But one night, a politician's son was having his birthday party in that bar. Many people had come, and they were all consuming drugs and alcohol. When that politician's son saw me dancing on stage, he climbed onto the stage in his drunken state and tried to have sex with me. When I resisted, he started beating me and hit my head with a drum that was kept nearby, causing blood to pour from my head.

Seeing me in that condition, my dad grabbed a chair lying nearby and hit that boy on the head. The boy died on the spot, even though my dad never intended to kill him. But as soon as that boy died, his friends and the guards attacked me and my dad. We managed to escape with our lives and hid inside this building. We hid on this very floor, thinking that even if someone came searching for us, they would only check the lower floors and then leave.

But my head injury was bleeding heavily, and seeing that, my dad became scared. He told me to wait here alone and went out of the building to find some medicine and a doctor. I stayed here waiting for him. And while he was on the road… these bastards ran him over with their car, killing him on the spot. And here, while waiting for my dad, I kept suffering in pain and died slowly.

My younger sister, who stayed at our neighbor's house during the daytime… I don't know where she is now or in what condition.

After my death, my spirit began wandering here. But when these people came here, I found Adam watching the accident video of my father. And then I finally understood how these people destroyed my entire family that night. And ever since I learned the truth, I only want revenge from them." Emma's spirit said, crying.

After hearing Emma's spirit's story, tears filled everyone's eyes. Even Christopher became emotional, but Jennifer still stood there as if nothing affected her at all.Meanwhile, Claire and Lily—who had been listening carefully to Emma's story—felt a strong rage toward Christopher, Jennifer, and Amily.

"Stephnie, your brother never did anything wrong to Emma's spirit. So take him and leave from here. Let Jennifer, Christopher, and Amily die right here. People like them don't deserve to live," Lily said angrily to Stephnie.

Hearing Lily's words, Amily, Jennifer, and Christopher panicked, and all three of them started begging Emma's spirit to spare their lives.

Then Stephnie spoke up, "Emma, whatever happened to you was just an accident. These people didn't even know why you wanted to kill them."

"Stephnie! What are you saying? Since when did you start defending the wrong people? Lily is completely right—they do not deserve to stay alive. And you're saying everything they did was 'just an accident'? If they had shown humanity that day and taken Emma's father to the hospital, maybe Emma and her dad would still be alive today. I didn't expect this from you… you really disappointed me," Claire said, tears filling her eyes as she looked at Stephnie.

"I'm not supporting anyone, Claire and Lily. I just want these people to be punished by the law for what they've done, and I want Emma's spirit to find peace," Stephnie said, trying to justify herself.

But Claire and Lily were deeply hurt by Stephnie's words, and they turned their faces away.

"Look, Emma! You have my sympathy. What happened to you and your father was terribly wrong. I can't undo any of it. But I can promise you one thing—I will take responsibility for your younger sister's treatment, no matter how much it costs. And I will raise her like my own sister. This is my promise. My family can give its life to fulfill a promise," Robin said as he stepped forward.

Hearing Robin's words, Lily whispered into Claire's ear, "Stephnie said the exact same dialogue in the car. Do you remember? These two really are siblings."Claire nodded in agreement.

Listening to Robin, Emma's spirit—who had been growling with anger inside Sarah's body until now—slowly calmed down and quietly stared at Robin's face.

But none of them knew the truth—the real danger hadn't passed at all.It was merely waiting… lurking in the shadows with patient, hungry silence, watching every second for the perfect moment to strike.
