Chapter 6 - Chapter 2 — Swordsman

Peter got onto the train. As he walked past a certain man, his spider-sense began to flare intensely. The man was holding a folding fan and staring straight at him.

Peter sat down across from him. The two of them simply stared at each other for a long moment.

At the next stop, everyone got off—except that man and Peter Parker.

The train doors closed. The man stood up and said,

"Hi, Peter Parker. I am Ze."

Then, Ze flicked several tiny needles out from the fan. Peter reacted instantly—jumping up and clinging to the ceiling of the carriage. The needles pierced straight through the train window.

Ze swung the fan toward Peter's neck, the sharp edge narrowly missing him. Peter dropped down and fired webbing, pinning Ze to the seat.

Peter crouched down and asked,

"How did you know it was me? You've never even seen my real face."

Ze smiled.

"Smell. As a seated-position Swordsman assassin, knowing a target's scent is only natural."

The train arrived at the next station, the doors opened, and Peter stepped off.

Still stuck to the seat, Ze called out,

"Peter! We'll meet again. Hahahahaha!"

Peter then went to the lab and found Dr. Liam.

He asked,

"Is the portal still not working? That guy is trying to kill me."

Dr. Liam said,

"I don't know what happened. No matter what I do, the portal won't open."

Sirens sounded downstairs. Dr. Liam said,

"Go help out. Experience what it feels like to be Spider-Man."

Peter leapt off the roof and fired webbing at the fleeing criminals' car. In an instant, the thieves were tangled up, completely immobilized.

Seeing that the police could now handle things, Peter swung away.

Soon after, he spotted an old man with a cane about to cross the road. Out of kindness, Peter came down to help him.

But as he stepped behind the old man, his spider-sense screamed. Peter dropped into a crouch, and the "old man" instantly drew a sword from within the cane, swinging it at Peter's head—only to miss.

In a low voice, Ze said,

"We really do have a fate, Peter."

Peter immediately shot away into the sky, leaving Ze standing in place silently watching him leave.

Peter returned to the lab. Just as he was about to tell Dr. Liam what happened, he saw Antonson arguing heatedly with him.

Antonson shouted,

"Keep going like this and you'll bankrupt the company eventually!"

Dr. Liam roared back,

"And if it bankrupts, you're the one who loses your inheritance, not me! I don't care whether I live or die anymore!"

Antonson snapped,

"You selfish bastard!"

Tears streamed from his eyes as he walked past Peter and entered the elevator.

Dr. Liam dropped heavily into a chair, helpless.

Peter watched from afar, not daring to approach.

Late that night, Peter was walking home when he sensed something wrong.

Ahead, a man was sitting alone on the roadside, placing Go stones on a board. Peter stopped walking.

With his head lowered, the man said,

"So you noticed."

Peter replied,

"Your disguise skills are terrible."

Ze pressed down on a Go stone—instantly turning the stones into sharp throwing darts.

He grabbed five darts and hurled them at Peter. Peter flipped sideways, dodging all of them.

Ze then picked up the sword beside him and slashed at Peter. Peter could only run, and the chase led them deep into the forested mountains.

Ze pursued relentlessly. Peter suddenly fired a web and shot upward into the trees, but Ze's blade sliced across Peter's chest mid-air. Peter groaned and fell. Ze rushed forward, attempting to land a killing blow—but Peter webbed Ze's leg and yanked him to the ground.

Ze got up again, sword in hand, charging straight toward Peter. Peter jumped, and Ze passed between his legs and ended up at the edge of a steep slope.

Ze steadied himself—but the ground beneath him collapsed. He slid down the nearly vertical slope.

Peter cautiously dropped down after him. Ze, barely breathing, stood with great effort and said in Chinese,

"事已至此,做个了断吧(Since it has come to this… let's finish it)."

He raised his sword. Peter put on his mask.

Ze slashed sideways. Peter dodged. Ze's strikes grew faster and faster, driving Peter back against a tree. Peter punched him twice in the temples.

Ze's sword speed became a blur. Peter leapt away at the last second. Ze continued hacking at the tree, unaware of what he was doing. When he finally stopped, he rubbed his eyes in fatigue.

At that moment, Peter quietly walked past him from behind.

Ze suddenly spun, sword slicing toward Peter—stopping right at Peter's throat.

A loud crack echoed. The tree behind Ze began to fall.

Peter reacted instantly, jumping onto another tree. Ze had no strength left to escape. He stood motionless, eyes closing slowly.

Peter watched as the collapsing tree crushed Ze beneath it.

Meanwhile, an elderly woman pointed into the forest and told the police,

"Inside—someone kept shouting for help."

The officers went in. All they found was Ze's body, pinned under the fallen tree.

One Month Later

Newspapers were filled with stories about Spider-Man.

Dr. Liam and Peter stood on the balcony, looking down at the city. Dr. Liam said,

"It's unusually quiet today."

Sirens blared in the distance.

Peter said,

"You jinxed it."

He pulled on his mask and jumped.

Antonson walked in at that moment. Dr. Liam looked at him.

Then, the two of them stepped forward and embraced.
