AURORA'S POV
Living Faith General hospital was the only hospital that was still functioning despite the recent bombings going on in Lagos. The reception hall was filled with many injured people and dead bodies, the poor tired nurses raced across the hall trying to save every life they could. The doctors kept yelling out instructions while trying to attend to the patients, everywhere was just hectic.
"Oluwa please save us" i muttered a prayer in Yoruba (my father's tongue)
I was sitting down while waiting for an update from the doctor that was operating on the victim that landed on my car. I just prayed he wouldn't die, i don't even know who this man was and how he fell? But i just felt like saving his life. He was just a cleaner and for all i know, his family could be somewhere crying for him. I sighed again as I remembered dad, i have tried calling his number but it was not going through. I was starting to get worried
"Why is this happening? Who are this people and what do they want from us?"
"Miss Starry"
Someone tapped me
"Doctor" i said as I looked up "how's he doing? Is he fine? Please tell me he's not dead" i rapped out
"Relax, the man's fine but there were some complications" he said
"What complications?" I raised my eyebrow
"I think it's better you see him yourself. Please follow me"
I nodded and followed him into ward 102, where the man was staying. When we walked into the room, i looked at the man who was still sleeping on the bed. Apart from the bandages and stitches on him, he looked like he was recovering really well
"Doctor, i don't understand. He looks fine to me" i said and then went closer to the man
"You'll see. Lemme wake him up first"
The doctor walked towards the bed, checked the drip that was on him and then tapped him gently
"Do you know him?" The doctor said without looking at me
"Um no I don't, but I think he works for my...i mean governor Martins" i said trying to hide my identity
"Okay"
The man finally woke up, he groaned as he shifted a little in his bed. I rushed beside him and held his hand
"Sir, how are you feeling now?" I asked
"Um where am I and who are you?" He stared at me looking confused
"Um you're in the hospital and I saved you. I found you unconscious on top of my car and brought you here" i tried to clear his confusion
"Car?" He said as he held his head in pain
"Yes" i looked at the doctor who was not saying anything, just observing us
"Um is there anyone i can call for you? Maybe a family member, girlfriend, sister or something?" I asked
"I don't remember" he whispered
"Huh?"
"Miss starry can I have a word with you please?" The doctor said
I nodded
"Sir I'll be right back okay?" I smiled at the man
"Okay" he nodded
I followed the doctor to a corner
"Doctor what's going on? He doesn't seem to remember anything that happened or even his family" i said worriedly
"That's the complication I told you about, he has temporary amnesia. For now he can't remember anything or anyone, though he can remember his name but apart from that he can't remember anything else" the doctor explained
"Oh gosh, so what do we do now?" I was getting frustrated
"Well i would advise you take him in and take care of him until he regains his memory. As for the hospital, we would wait and see if anyone comes looking for him"
I just rubbed my temples and sighed
"I really don't think it's easy for me to take him in, I'm living with my dad and I'm still scared to go back to my apartment because of the recent bombings" i said
"Well there's nothing you can do, you brought him here so he's now your responsibility"
I wanted to kick something right now! How the hell did I go from mourning my boyfriend to becoming tied down to a man i know nothing about?! It was obvious that i had no choice so i just decided to go with the flow
"Fine I'll take him in. How much is the hospital bill?" I said in defeat
"Good. The cashier will give you the bill when you want to leave. Please take care of him, you may be the only person he has right now" the doctor said and then walked out
I turned towards my "new responsibility", he was just staring at me like i was his new saviour. I smiled as I walked back to him
"Um you'll be discharged tomorrow, soooo I'll come and take you to my place by then" i said rubbing my neck nervously
"Thanks" he smiled, he had a really sweet smile and i couldn't help but smile back
"You're welcome, um you must be hungry?"
"I don't feel hungry" he said
"Well you need food to regain your strength so I'll just go outside and get you something to eat, okay?"
He just nodded
I grabbed my bag and dashed out of the room. I quietly shut the door and just stood in the hall contemplating whether i was making the right choice
"What have I gotten myself into?" I groaned
"AURORA?"
I flinched as I heard someone call my name. Turning around i finally saw the owner of the voice, it wasn't who I expected
"Amir?" I looked at my dad's personal guard
"What are you doing here?" He came closer
"Um it's a long story. Where's dad? How's he doing? What happened?" I bombarded him with questions
"Easy" he chucked "your dad's fine"
I breathed in relief.
"Good. You look battered, hope you've gotten some medication" i stared at his bruised face and bandaged arm
"Yeah I'll be fine. The governor is in ward 53, he's worried about you"
"I'll see him later. What happened at the office?" I queried
"The purple Lagoon stroke again, they wanted to kill the governor but I handled it. I hope nothing happened to you" he monitored me
"No when I got to the office, people were running but the bullets and bomb had already stopped so I wasn't harmed" i smiled
"Okay, um I'll chat with you later. I need to get the boss something to eat" he smiled back
"Actually I'm also going to buy something for a friend so I'll come along with you"
He nodded. We both walked out of the hospital and headed for a canteen nearby. Amir bought fried rice and turkey leg while I bought Nigerian jollof and chicken 🍗. I paid the lady at the counter while Amir inspected the food for any trace of poison or harm to the governor
"Dude, it's a canteen. I don't think anyone would want to poison the governor, he doesn't frequent this place" i said to Amir
"I know but you can never be too careful" he shrugged
"Hmmm" I chuckled
Amir and I had a good relationship unlike with my dad. He wasn't just a family worker but also someone i could talk to without feeling out of place. He actually understood me in his own way though he was very loyal to dad.
"C'mon let's head back to the hospital" he said
"Um can I ask you something Amir?" I said as we walked towards the hospital
"Sure"
"You're very close to dad right?"
"Yeah. Why do you ask?"
"Just confirming something"
"Okay"
"Um so since you two are really close, has he ever mentioned to you about the purple lagoon?"
I looked at him trying to study his face, his face looked blank and a bit hesitant
"Amir if you know something, please tell me" i said
"Um i need to check up on the governor" he increased his pace and walked away.
I stood still watching him for a while
"He definitely knows something but doesn't want to rat out his boss. I smell rats, dad definitely has some unfinished dirty business with this terrorists" i said to myself
"The question is, what? And why is he hiding it from me? I need to get to the bottom of this"
I walked back into the hospital and entered ward 102. The man was asleep, i dropped the food on the table beside him and just sat down.
