Cherreads

Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Niebla - Fog

""I forgot something in my room, save me a seat, Will." (Xavier)

It was Saturday. Nevermore allowed its students to go for walks in Jericho on weekends; a bus would take any students who wished to go.

"Sure," Will replied dismissively, his attention focused on a drawing Xavier had shown him the night before. Xavier had told him it had something to do with him. The drawing depicted a desolate road with a stop sign, and at its base, a small red shoe. Xavier had told him it had something to do with him.

(Knowing it's a vision, it's best to be prepared) Will trusted Xavier's visions, knowing it had to do with him, decided to bring his spear with him, disassembled it into four parts and put it back in its case, anyone would think he was carrying some musical instrument on his back.

Will took his seat, closed the curtains and as usual put on his headphones, he was a little nervous about meeting Enid, he tried to calm his anxiety by painting something.

(Mmm it's a bit more difficult to paint it from memory) William was painting a pencil portrait; there was only one person who interested him enough to capture their face in his notebook.

"You saved me a place." A voice came to his side, focused on his sketch and with the music in his headphones. Will didn't recognize it.

"Yes, go ahead," He replied distractedly, assuming it was Xavier who had returned.

"Do you think she's pretty?" (?)

"She's beautiful," Will replied unconsciously, a second later he realized the strange question as a sweet aroma assaulted his nose and a lock of blue, pink, and blonde hair entered his peripheral vision.

(Don't tell me that...) Will's fear came true, a smiling and somewhat blushing Enid was by his side, now he had two options, first act embarrassed and flee in his cat form, that would avoid having to see her face, or second option pretend that nothing happened.

"And Xavier?" Will put away his notebook, took off one of his headphones, and asked calmly.

"I saw him sitting with Bianca, here, look so we're even," Enid replied with a laugh, as she handed him her phone. Enid's wallpaper was a picture of William, judging by the angle of the photo, it was taken secretly.

The journey passed in silence; the only difference was that Will had taken Enid's hand and intertwined their fingers; they both shared the same headphones.

Jericho Main Square

The students from Nevermore stood out among the residents of Jericho, strolling through the streets in pairs or trios in their bright blue uniforms with black stripes.

Will and Enid were walking hand in hand towards the new dessert restaurant when, without warning, a small boy bumped into Enid. His ice cream ended up smeared all over Enid's blazer. The mother, panicked, hurriedly apologized. She instantly recognized the uniform; they were students from the Nevermore private boarding school for outcasts, a school known for being mostly attended by rich kids.

"I'm so sorry, miss, I've told you many times not to run on the sidewalk. Let me pay for the dry cleaning."

"Don't worry, it's just a small stain. I should check if the little one is okay." Enid wasn't angry; it was just an accident. She felt she was also partly to blame. She hadn't been paying attention to the road; she was distracted talking to Will.

"I'm sorry, miss." The little girl also apologized.

"Don't worry, it was just an accident, you don't need to pay anything." Enid and Will took a seat in the restaurant after saying goodbye to the lady; the little girl, aware of her mistake, gave them her handkerchief.

"Your collar is loose." (Ever since I met him, he's always dressed perfectly.) Enid, with complete naturalness and confidence, approached Will, both hands on his collar adjusting his slightly loose tie. Will was able to contemplate her attractive face up close once again.

"This is for you." Will took Enid's right hand and with the other unfastened the brooch on his tie, a silver bear-shaped brooch, and placed it on Enid's shirt sleeve near her wrist.

"Huh? What happened to the stain?" The stain on Enid's blazer had disappeared; it had cleaned itself. Will wore the brooch all the time, given his preference for the color white.

"Huh? What happened to the stain?" The stain on Enid's blazer had disappeared; it had cleaned itself. Will wore the brooch all the time, given his preference for the color white.

"Wow, give me a second and I'll give it back." Will held Enid's hand before she did.

"It's just a brooch, I can make more, it's what my family does, we make objects enchanted by Runes." Before they could continue their conversation, a third voice interrupted them, sounding annoyed.

"Tsk...are they going to order yes or no?" (Flirting right in front of my annoying brats)

(tsk - Click your tongue)

An elderly lady, dressed as a waitress, was watching them.

"I won the bet so it's my treat, order whatever you want Enid." Will didn't even look at her, he just kept holding Enid's hand, playing with her multicolored nails.

(What soft skin mmmm) (Will)

Contrary to what most people believed upon seeing Enid's slim figure, she did eat sweets.

(Even in the series, Enid was seen drinking her coffee covered in marshmallows and sweets on top) Will didn't gain weight either; every time he changed form, he consumed a lot of calories.

Park

"Can I take your picture?" Enid asked cheerfully. They had left the restaurant and were in a park full of trees. Will had told her about his family, and Enid about hers—her siblings and her parents.

"Only if you appear the same." Will opened his arms to stretch his shoulders, which felt somewhat tired from carrying his backpack on his shoulder. His spear was somewhat heavy. Without warning, Enid threw herself into his arms, giving him a hug.

(He thought it was an invitation, ever since he opened his arms) Will didn't correct his mistake; he wrapped his arms around Enid's slender waist. Enid was shorter than him, so he had to tilt his head to whisper.

"You can take the picture." (Will)

(For a moment I thought I was going to k...) (Enid)

"Flash" "Flash" "Flash" "Flash"

Enid took many photos in different poses, from Will hugging her from behind to Enid kissing his cheek; Will's favorite was when Enid made him make a heart with his fingers.

"I'll upload most of them to my social media, it'll be great." She was sitting between Will's legs on the grass.

"Hmm, do Yoko and Divina have something going on?" Will asked curiously, watching them cross the street holding hands, Yoko the vampire who always wore glasses and Divina the mermaid.

"I'm not sure if that level of intimacy between girls is relatively normal... I think." (Enid)

"Someone's seen my daughter!!!"

"She's wearing a red hat and shoes!!!"

"Her name is Jean, she's only 5 years old!!"

The screams of a woman caught their attention; a housewife, desperate to find her son, asked passersby in a loud voice, apparently her little boy had disappeared among the trees.

"She's the ice cream lady, apparently her son disappeared" (Will)

"How awful, I hope they find him soon." (Enid)

"Where was the last time you saw her?" The police had arrived; the county sheriff had blue eyes and gray hair, as well as an unkempt beard.

"That's Sheriff Donovan Galpin, he doesn't like outcasts," Enid said his name when she saw William focus his attention on him.

"He'll take care of it, it's time to go back, the last bus leaves in 10 minutes."

Bus to Nevermore

"So where were you?" Will raised an eyebrow at Xavier.

"I was hanging out with Ajax" (Xavier)

"Seriously, why did I see Ajax with the rest of the Gorgons?" (Will)

"I didn't see Bianca with her usual group of mermaids either" (Will)

"Cough..."Nothing happened if that's what you mean," Xavier choked.

"I didn't say anything~" Will decided to leave the tormented artist, as Enid called him, in peace.

"What about you and Enid? Everyone says you were very close in Jericho." Xavier also hoped to embarrass William.

"Pretty good, he told me about his family, he has several older brothers at home, he's from San Francisco, and he likes ice hockey."

Before he could continue speaking, the bus suddenly shook.

"It looks like we ran over something," Xavier muttered as he peered forward, several students doing the same, some of them getting out to take a look.

(That's not the sign in Xavier's drawing.) Will got off too; the dark road was covered in a dense fog, it was a moonless night, the only light came from the bus headlights and the students' cell phones.

"What is that green thing?"

"An animal?"

"Are there green animals?"

"Perhaps a frog?

"There are frogs that big"

There was a mass of crushed flesh under the tires; the driver couldn't see its small figure in the fog.

Before anyone could notice, Will ran off into the woods at full speed, carrying his spear on his shoulder.
