Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

Seven Months Later

Ten months have passed since I became All Might's successor…

And that bastard of a good teacher, Gran Torino, also became my mentor—along with All Might.

These past ten months… my growth's probably slower than canon Deku's. That guy managed to hit 45% of OFA in just a year. Sure, it took six seasons for the anime to show it, but still… canonically, he's insane. Well, once I get my support items, I'll surpass him easily.

"All Might—no, Sensei! Good morning!" Izuku called out as he jogged over.

All Might, in his skinny form, waved. "Young Midoriya, I'm here!"

"Sensei, I'm ready for the U.A. entrance exam," Izuku said, adjusting his gloves.

All Might looked concerned. "Are you sure you don't want me to recommend you, young man? The U.A. exam is no walk in the park."

Izuku chuckled. "Wouldn't people get suspicious if the No.1 Hero suddenly supported a nobody like me, Sensei?"

All Might paused. "...That's true."

"Don't worry, All Might. I've worked hard on my studies too. I'm gonna crack that entrance exam easily!"

I said that, but honestly… I never studied much in this world. Still, since I was a university graduate in my previous life, high school subjects here are a piece of cake. I'm actually kinda proud of my studying skills, Izuku thought smugly.

"Now then, I'll be going, Sensei!" Izuku waved as he left.

At the Exam Grounds

"Oii, Deku!"

Izuku turned. "Ah, Kacchan—you're here."

Bakugo squinted. "...You've gotten taller."

Hah, finally! I stand at 175 cm, and he's still 170. Guess training really pays off, Izuku thought.

"Looks like my training is paying off, Kacchan."

"What kind of training makes you taller, dumbass? Anyway, how's your quirk? Still breaking bones?"

Izuku grinned. "You'll be surprised when I beat you up, Kacchan."

"TEME! I'LL KILL YOU!" Bakugo shouted.

"That's the Kacchan I know," Izuku chuckled.

Bakugo smirked. "If you fail, I'll kill you. Got it, Deku?"

"Yeah, yeah. You too—don't die out there, Kacchan."

They fist-bumped before heading to their respective exam halls.

Oh, looks like some of Class 1-A are already here, Izuku thought as he scanned the crowd.

Invisible Girl… what was her name again? Oh, there's the frog one—and the electric guy. What's his name again? Ah, screw it, I'll learn after joining the class. Wait, is that Shinso? And that sparkly guy… Aoyama Yuga. Honestly, that guy's kinda relatable. Instead of a quirkless kid chasing light, he's someone drifting toward darkness. I can sort of sympathize with him.

Well, that's a story for another time.

Written Exam

That was easy. Wouldn't be surprised if I topped it. Compared to my old world's high school exams, this was nothing. Maybe because it's anime logic? Well, works for me.

As Izuku walked toward the waiting hall, he suddenly tripped.

Huh? I tripped? That's unusual for me.

Before he could get up, someone offered a hand. "Oii, bro—not funny," said a blonde boy with a yellow streak in his hair.

Ah, electric guy… Kaminari? Kamakiri? Izuku thought blankly.

"Huh, you wanna fight?" said another boy—his old middle-school bully.

Kaminari frowned. "Bro, you just tripped him and now you wanna fight?"

Everyone nearby turned to watch.

"Why do you care? He's just a quirkless nobody," the bully sneered.

"Even then, it doesn't give you the right to attack him," Kaminari said, voice trembling slightly.

"Thanks, Kamakiri—uh, I mean, I'll handle this myself," Izuku said calmly.

"Wait—"

"What is it?"

"My name's Kaminari," the boy corrected.

"Ah, sorry, Kaminari. I'll talk to you later." Izuku turned back to his bully.

"What, nerd? You wanna fight?"

"You're Inazuka, right?" Izuku asked, putting an arm around him casually. "Guys, relax—we're friends."

The crowd started dispersing.

When did this bastard get taller than me…? Inazuka thought, frowning.

Izuku leaned close, smiling. "You know, I didn't wanna do this here. Let's settle it outside tomorrow, got it?"

' Am i being intimidated by a quirkless nobody - not a chance ' Inazuka thought..

As he walked away, vines suddenly shot toward him—Inazuka's plant-based quirk.

Izuku dodged instantly, grabbed Inazuka by the collar, and lifted him off the ground.

"I said nicely to settle this tomorrow. Is it that hard to understand? I can't screw up the exam today, or the old man'll kill me," he muttered, dropping him on the floor.

"You bastard… you actually got a quirk. That's impossible!"

"Who knows—maybe I'm a late bloomer," Izuku said, waving as he walked away.

"Man, you were so cool back there," Kaminari said, catching up.

"Ah, Kaminari-kun, sorry for getting your name wrong. You look a lot like a friend I used to know."

"No worries, bro. I'm Denki Kaminari—trying out for the hero course."

"I'm Izuku Midoriya. Also aiming for the hero course. Nice to meet you, Kaminari-kun."

"Same here! Still, I was shocked when that guy called you quirkless."

"Well, he wasn't wrong. I used to be quirkless… until recently."

"Recently, huh? Must've been tough."

"Yeah…" Izuku smiled faintly.

"Anyway, let's go—they're announcing results soon!" Kaminari said.

"Yeah, let's go!"

Results Hall

"YES! I passed!" Kaminari shouted.

"What about you, Midoriya?"

"Yeah… passed."

"Really? What rank?"

"I'm first."

Kaminari froze. "WHAT!? Are you part of some secret genius program!? How'd you get all of them right!?"

"Hehe…" Izuku laughed awkwardly.

"Don't laugh, you bastard! You just insulted every normal guy here!" Kaminari yelled.

"Oi, looks like you got first place, huh, Deku?"

"Another bully? Don't worry, Midoriya—I'll protect you this time," Kaminari said dramatically.

"Ahh, who's this electric rod guy?" Bakugo asked.

"Don't worry, Kacchan—he's my friend."

"Ehh, you're friends?" Kaminari asked, stunned.

"Yeah," both of them said in perfect sync.

One looks like a thug… the other looks like an angel, everyone around them thought.

"I'll surpass you in the practical, Deku!" Bakugo said.

"Yeah, you got it, Kacchan. But remember—I'm not the same as before."

"I'm not the same either, you damn nerd!" Bakugo snapped and stormed off.
