"Andre, Luke," Coach Daniel called. "Come over, please."
Andre loosened his arm around Luke's waist and stepped back, still holding on till Luke found his footing. Together they walked to meet the coach.
"The secretary is on the phone with me right now. She asked if you would be available to take your official pictures today. Other members of the team have taken theirs, and the school wants to start a new round of publicity as soon as possible."
Luke's heart fell. Previous promotional materials always had him and Ethan standing side by side. Thinking back, not long after school resumed, all of Ethan's pictures had been taken down. From the school's website, the notice boards, and the signboards. Everywhere.
"Luke?" the coach said, noticing Luke's distraction.
"Sorry," Luke replied.
"Andre said now is fine. What about you?"
He nodded. He just had to win this season. Once Ethan recovered, he would return to his rightful position.
