Evelin's POV
"Did I wake you?" Jimmy's voice carried a hint of surprise.
"Not really. Sleep doesn't come easy for me anyway. But when I'm holding your hand like this, I actually feel at peace," I whispered softly.
"You're worried I won't be able to sleep?" His voice dropped to barely audible.
"Yeah, I'm scared you'll go back to those pills again..." My words came out drowsy, barely making sense. "Jimmy, you can't... keep playing around with those medications. I need you to be safe... for so many years ahead."
I felt the warmth of his gaze on me as sleep finally began to pull me under, my breathing growing steady and gentle as I drifted off completely—safe right here next to him.
When I woke the next morning, Jimmy was still there, and I caught him whispering something that sounded like 'Safe, for so many years ahead...' like he was making some kind of promise.
That's all he wanted—for me to stay safe, always.
And for that dream, he'd give up anything.
