A familiar voice came through the phone.
"Hello hello?"
Mei said, "I'm Mei, not Hello Hello."
Otis replied, "I'm Otis, not Hello."
Mei wanted to laugh but held it in. "Are you a kid?"
Otis nodded. "Sister Mei."
Mei's face turned red. This man was never serious!
Yet somehow, her gloomy mood lifted.
Outside, the storm raged, but inside her chest, sunlight began creeping in.
Mei traced circles on the table with her finger.
"So? Why'd you call? Don't tell me you're stuck at the office?"
(As if I could help even if you were stuck. I'm stuck at the office too.)
Otis shook his head. "No. I got home. But you weren't back yet, so I called."
Otis had already shut every window tightly at home, but maybe because he lived high up or the wind was too strong, the glass kept rattling violently. He had never experienced something like this before, and honestly, he was a little worried.
Especially because Mei still hadn't come home.
