Chapter 8 - CHAPTER 8---The friend who vanished halfway and came back.

The servant had no choice left but to face him.

But Yagami was no longer human.

He had become a monster that mercilessly annihilated anything and anyone in his path.

The servant whispered:

"I guess it's time to use it."

He calmly let his cloak fall.

Everyone froze in stunned silence.

Beneath the cloak, two radiant white wings unfurled from his back, shining like an angel's.

For a moment, every onlooker thought a true angel had descended to earth.

The angel soared into the sky, eyes glowing, lips murmuring an unknown incantation.

But Yagami gave him no time.

With a savage roar, he unleashed a colossal fireball from the heavens.

The infernal sphere was nearly forty meters wide, a miniature sun intent on burning everything to ash.

There was no escape, only one choice: endure.

The angel, wide-eyed, gasped:

"He created a fireball that massive… without a single incantation?!"

With every ounce of strength, he summoned ten consecutive Holy Shields.

Blinding light tore through the battlefield's darkness, but the magical pressure was so overwhelming that more than half his mana vanished in an instant.

One shield after another shattered like glass, yet the hellfire kept coming, unrelenting, unquenchable.

The angel's breath grew ragged. Despair began to creep in…

Then, at the very last second, someone saved him.

The fireball finally struck the ground.

An explosion of apocalyptic force erupted, as though a thousand thunderbolts had struck at once.

The earth shook violently, the sky flashed white, and the deafening roar ruptured eardrums.

When Yagami saw who had intervened, the endless rage inside him faltered for a single heartbeat.

It was his best friend, the only person in this entire world who had never abandoned him.

Yagami, now fully transformed into a berserk monster with almost no trace of reason left, roared and charged at his own friend.

His black blade descended with murderous force, but it struck something invisible, a mysterious, radiant aura.

It rose like a shield before him, yet it was no ordinary barrier.

An unknown, terrifying power pulsed within it.

The angel stared, eyes wide with shock, and whispered:

"I know this shield… I know this aura…"

He shouted in disbelief:

"This aura… it belongs to one of the Archangels' powers! How can a human wield something like that?!"

His friend answered calmly but firmly:

"Let me calm my brother first… then I'll tell you everything."

Yagami attacked without pause, with magic, with swords, with every monstrous power coursing through him.

But not a single blow left even a scratch on that enigmatic shield.

The harder he fought, the more he resembled a mindless, raging beast.

His friend shouted, voice breaking:

"Brother! Snap out of it! What happened to you?! Why did you let the darkness take everything?!"

Yagami didn't hear him. Foam dripped from his mouth, his eyes burned with pure hatred, and only bestial growls escaped his throat.

His friend kept trying:

"Someone… something is controlling you! Can you hear me, man?!"

Yagami only grew more furious, striking as if he wanted revenge on the entire world, as though every injustice, every cruelty ever done to him now demanded payment in blood.

Finally, his friend made his choice.

He dropped the shield completely, leaving himself defenseless, and threw his arms around Yagami.

Choking back tears, he whispered into his ear:

"I know you're still in there… you're still the real Yagami. Please… come back to me."

At that moment, his friend stepped into the dark, twisted landscape of Yagami's mind.

Everything was black and silent; a world drowned in shadow and sorrow.

He walked forward, step by step, until, deep in the darkness, he heard the faint sound of crying.

He moved closer… and there, curled up in a corner, was a small, broken child, sobbing silently.

His friend whispered in disbelief:

"This… is you?

Buddy…?"
