The warm breeze blew gently across the lush green plains of Lord Beerus's planet. A tall, beautiful waterfall roared in the distance, its water sparkling under the bright purple sky. Lord Beerus, the God of Destruction, stood near the edge of the grass with his thin arms crossed behind his back. His usual black-and-orange godly outfit looked perfectly neat, and his long purple tail swayed lazily through the air. He tapped one foot, clearly annoyed.
"Whis!" Beerus called out, his voice sharp. "What took you so long?"
A soft blue light flashed, and Whis appeared right in front of him, smiling as always. The tall angel held his long black staff in one hand. His light blue skin glowed a little in the sunlight, and his white hair was perfectly styled.
"Oh my, I am terribly sorry, my lord," Whis said with a small chuckle. He lifted one hand to cover his mouth politely. "I had just a tiny bit of delay."
Beerus narrowed his golden eyes. "Hmmm. As usual, Whis. Now, where is Cheelai? I asked specifically for her."
Whis turned his head slightly and spoke toward empty air. "Come out now, please."
Another small flash of light appeared, and a short green-skinned woman stepped forward. Cheelai crossed her arms and stared straight at Beerus with a frown. Her short purple hair bounced a little as she planted her feet firmly on the grass.
"What is it that you want this time, Lord Beerus?" she asked, not hiding her annoyance.
Beerus suddenly looked nervous. The mighty destroyer of planets rubbed his hands together and looked away. "Oh… erm… yes… well… your cooking," he mumbled. "There are some ingredients in my kitchen that need… attending to."
Cheelai rolled her eyes so hard it looked like they might fall out. "Haaa! Fine!" she said loudly. "But the second I'm done cooking, Whis is taking me straight back home. No excuses!" She stomped past them both, her boots making little angry sounds on the grass as she headed toward Beerus's palace.
Beerus let out a long breath and watched her disappear inside. "Haaa… yeah," he said quietly. Then he quickly turned to Whis. "Tell me, did you give Vegeta my message?"
Whis smiled wider than ever. "Hohoho, I'm so sorry, my lord. I completely forgot to do that. But I'm sure Prince Vegeta will find out on his own very soon."
Before Beerus could shout, Whis vanished in a streak of light.
"DAMN YOU, WHIS!" Beerus yelled at the empty sky, shaking his fist. "Get back here right now! Next time I'm going with you! I missed out on that new ice cream and pudding because of you!" His tail lashed back and forth in anger as he stared up at the clouds.
Meanwhile, far away on Earth, the sky was bright blue and the sun was shining warmly.
In a wide open field surrounded by mountains, two Trunks and Goten were completely worn out. Their training clothes were dirty and torn in places, and little puffs of dust floated around them.
Suddenly, heavy footsteps approached. Prince Vegeta walked down the hill toward them with his arms crossed. His usual blue training suit looked clean and perfect, and his black hair stood up in its usual proud spikes. Behind him walked Broly, the giant Legendary Super Saiyan. Broly wore his simple green and black outfit with the fur around his waist, and his long black hair hung wild around his shoulders.
"Hey, you two!" Vegeta called out. "How long have you brats been lying there like dead fish?"
Trunks opened one eye and slowly pushed himself up. "Oh… hey, Dad," he said, rubbing the back of his head. "Sorry… we kinda passed out. We were sparring so hard we used up all our energy."
Goten sat up too, waving weakly. "Hi, Uncle Vegeta! Have you seen my dad anywhere?"
Vegeta gave a short grunt. "Kakarot went off to train in Universe 6 again. You boys should fly home now and rest. Broly and I are going to spar."
He pointed a thumb over his shoulder at the giant man walking slowly behind him. Broly took one big step at a time, and the ground seemed to shake a little with each footfall.
Goten's eyes went wide. "Whoa… I remember him! He's super scary and crazy strong!"
Trunks stood up and dusted off his pants. "Welcome, mister Broly!" he said politely. "Dad, please be careful, okay?"
The two boys waved, then bent their knees. With a loud BOOM that shook the whole field, they shot up into the sky like rockets, leaving long white trails behind them.
Now only Vegeta and Broly stood in the wide open space.
Vegeta turned to the giant. "Well, Broly?"
Broly looked down at him with calm eyes. "Vegeta," he said in his deep, quiet voice.
Vegeta raised an eyebrow. "Yes, Broly? And don't tell me you're hungry again. You already ate every single thing Bulma cooked this morning."
Broly slowly lifted one huge arm and pointed toward the sky where the boys had disappeared. "No… look at that," he said. "Why is Trunks naked?"
Vegeta's eyes nearly popped out of his head. "WHAT?! He's WHAT?!" He spun around and stared at the tiny dots flying far away. "Why in the world is my son flying home naked?! Trunks! Goten! What did you two idiots do?!"
But the boys were already too far away to hear him.
Vegeta clenched his teeth so hard it looked painful. He took a deep breath and turned back to Broly. "Never mind that right now. We'll deal with those two later." He cracked his knuckles. "Let's begin. I want to see what you can do now that you can control your power."
Broly gave a small nod. Then he started jumping lightly up and down, just like Goku used to do when they first fought. His huge boots made the ground rumble every time he landed.
Vegeta smirked. "Good. Let's go all out from the start."
Both warriors planted their feet wide apart. The wind suddenly stopped blowing. Birds in the trees went silent. Even the clouds seemed to freeze in the sky.
Then, at the exact same moment, both Saiyans closed their eyes and let their power explode.
"ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!"
The ground cracked open like an earthquake had hit it. Huge chunks of rock shot up into the air. A massive wave of energy rushed out from both fighters, bending the grass flat for hundreds of meters in every direction.
Vegeta's hair flashed bright blue. His eyes turned the same glowing blue color. Beautiful blue flames of energy danced around his body. His muscles grew a little bigger, strong but still sleek. A bright ball of blue light wrapped around him like a cocoon. Then, with a loud CRACK, the ball shattered, and Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta stood there, proud and shining under the sun.
At the same exact second, Broly's power roared even louder. His eyes glowed bright green. His body grew taller and wider. Muscles piled on top of muscles until he looked like a green-skinned mountain. His wild black hair turned bright green and spiked up in every direction. A massive green aura exploded around him, so strong that the ground under his feet sank deep down, forming a huge crater.
The sky itself seemed to tremble. Far away, people in cities looked up and wondered if the world was ending again.
Both warriors floated up slowly until they hovered a few meters above the broken ground. The sun shone high above them, making their colorful auras sparkle like jewels.
Vegeta gave a proud, excited smile. "Not bad, Broly. Not bad at all."
Broly returned a small, calm smile. "Thank you, Vegeta. Now… let's fight."
They pulled their fists back, eyes locked on each other. The air between them crackled with power.
And high above the ruined battlefield, one of the greatest Saiyan fight Earth had seen in years was about to begin.
