Chapter 13 - Dark Flame Demon Lion

"It seems a new challenge has begun," Isabella said, gripping her Magic Scepter tightly.

Seeing this, Hu Yulun swiftly brandished his sword, attempting to sever the flame chains that snaked towards them. The sword clashed violently with the chains, instantly sending out a series of dazzling sparks, like fireworks blooming in the night sky. However, the flame chains were incredibly tough, as though forged from a thousand-year-old black iron, and remained undamaged no matter how hard Hu Yulun tried.

Isabella began to chant, and a brilliant light erupted from the top of her Magic Scepter. The light flowed like water, gradually coalescing into an ice-blue shield, completely enveloping the two of them. The flame chains mercilessly struck the shield, producing a deafening "crackling" sound. Each impact caused fine, spiderweb-like cracks to appear on the shield, as if it would shatter at any moment.

"This won't work!" Hu Yulun shouted, his forehead bulging with veins. Sweat streamed down his cheeks, dripping onto the scorching ground and instantly turning into a wisp of smoke.

Isabella's eyes were resolute, her gaze like a torch. "We must find the key to break this Magic Array!" Her voice remained clear and steady amidst the fierce battle.

They struggled to withstand the storm of attacks from the flame chains, while also focusing intently on observing every line and subtle change within the Magic Array. Just then, Hu Yulun keenly noticed a dim Rune at one corner of the array. The Rune flickered faintly, like a faint star shining in the darkness.

At that moment, the Dark Flame Demon Lion's body blazed with light, resembling a black sun. Its eyes shot out two streaks of purplish-red light, like two sharp laser swords, directly at the Magic Array. The Magic Array was instantly activated, and raging black flames erupted from its surface. The flames seemed to come from the abyss of hell, incredibly hot, causing the surrounding air to distort. Mixed within the flames were sharp Ice Spikes, each flashing with cold light, that rapidly hurtled towards Hu Yulun and Isabella.

"Isabella, look there!" Hu Yulun yelled, pointing at the Rune with urgency and hope in his voice.

Isabella understood immediately. She took a deep breath and focused all her magical power, launching an attack at the Rune. A powerful beam of magic shot from the tip of her Magic Scepter, like a brilliant meteor, instantly striking the Rune. The Rune shattered under the impact of the powerful magic, dissolving into stardust that dissipated in the air.

As the Rune broke, the light of the Magic Array began to fluctuate. The surging flames of the chains gradually weakened, no longer as sharp and fierce as before.

Seeing this, the Dark Flame Demon Lion roared again in anger. The roar was deafening, as if it could collapse the entire Castle. The spikes on its body suddenly detached, transforming into countless arrows that flashed with an eerie light. The arrows carried a ghostly blue glow, with black smoke trailing behind them, like messengers of demons, shooting towards them like a torrential downpour.

"Watch out!" Hu Yulun unhesitatingly shielded Isabella behind him. He gripped his sword hilt tightly and swung it frantically, trying to deflect the dense rain of arrows. Each collision between the sword and the arrows produced a crisp sound, with sparks flying everywhere.

At this critical moment, the Magic Array finally couldn't withstand the powerful impact and completely collapsed, dissolving into countless light points that dissipated in the air like fireworks.

The two of them finally breathed a sigh of relief. But before they could recover from the tense battle, a deep and shocking roar came from the depths of the Castle. The sound seemed to come from an ancient beast, filled with endless majesty and power, as if a more powerful and unknown enemy was waiting for them in the darkness.

"No matter what it is, we won't back down!" Hu Yulun and Isabella exchanged a look, seeing determination and courage in each other's eyes. They held hands and walked firmly towards the depths of the Castle, ready to face new challenges and battles.

Hu Yulun and Isabella cautiously proceeded along the dimly lit Castle passage. Faint light shone from the occasional flickering Runes on the walls, causing their shadows to lengthen and shorten on the ground. Isabella clung tightly to Hu Yulun's side, her eyes filled with tension and unease. Each step felt like testing an unknown trap.

"This place is getting creepier and creepier," Isabella said softly, her voice trembling slightly. She instinctively gripped Hu Yulun's arm.

Hu Yulun turned his head and gave her a steady look. "Don't be afraid, I'm here." His expression was serious and composed, and he tightened his grip on his sword, as if ready to face any danger that might appear.

Suddenly, a huge stone door appeared ahead, covered in complex patterns. These patterns were like ancient runes, radiating a mysterious and oppressive aura.

"What's behind that door?" Isabella was filled with questions. She tilted her head slightly, staring at the door, her brows furrowed.

Hu Yulun walked forward and pushed the stone door with both hands, but it didn't budge. He frowned, sweat trickling down his forehead. "This door is so heavy, it looks like it won't be easy to open."

Just as they were thinking about how to open the door, the Dark Flame Demon Lion appeared behind them again, they didn't know when. Its eyes flashed with a sinister light, and the breath it exhaled formed a black mist, in which lightning flickered faintly, crackling and popping.

"How is this guy such a pain!" Hu Yulun glared, his teeth grinding, and the anger in his heart ignited instantly.

The Dark Flame Demon Lion roared, a sound that seemed to penetrate the soul, causing the entire passage to tremble slightly. It spewed out a powerful airflow, which, like a gale, knocked Hu Yulun and Isabella back several steps.

Isabella stumbled, nearly falling, her face instantly paling. But she quickly composed herself, her hands moving rapidly as she wielded the Magic Scepter. Muttering an incantation, she conjured a solid, protective barrier of multicolored light in front of her.

The Dark Flame Demon Lion lunged forward, its massive body slamming into the barrier with a resounding crash. The entire passage echoed with the dull thud of the impact.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Hu Yulun circled behind the Demon Lion. Determination flashed in his eyes as he leaped high into the air. His sword arced through the air, then came down in a fierce strike aimed at the Demon Lion's legs.

The Demon Lion reacted with incredible speed, twisting its body and swiping a claw at Hu Yulun. He narrowly dodged the attack, the wind from the claw stinging his cheek.

"Isabella, try to restrain it!" Hu Yulun shouted, urgency lacing his voice.

"Alright!" Isabella responded. Focusing her energy, veins bulging on her forehead, she manipulated the magic into countless ribbons of light, sending them towards the Demon Lion's eyes.

Disrupted, the Demon Lion shook its head incessantly, trying to shake off the light ribbons.

Hu Yulun seized the moment and attacked again, his sword flashing like lightning towards the Demon Lion.

"Die!" Hu Yulun roared.

The Dark Flame Demon Lion already had multiple wounds, and black blood flowed onto the ground, emitting a pungent smell.

After a fierce battle, the Dark Flame Demon Lion gradually became exhausted. Its movements grew sluggish, and its breathing became heavier.

Just as it turned to flee, Hu Yulun leaped forward, his entire body like an arrow released from a bow, plunging his sword deep into the lion's back.

The Dark Flame Demon Lion let out a miserable cry, the sound echoing through the passage, sending chills down one's spine. Its massive body crashed to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.

"Finally dealt with this trouble," Hu Yulun exhaled deeply, his body trembling slightly, sweat soaking his clothes.

Isabella ran over, a look of relief on her face. "Great, we did it!"

Hu Yulun looked at her, his eyes filled with tenderness. "But this is only temporary. There are more dangers ahead of us."

Isabella nodded. "No matter what, we'll face it together."

They turned their gaze back to the massive Stone Door. The patterns on it seemed even more mysterious in the dim light.

Hu Yulun gently touched the patterns with his hand, trying to find a clue. "There seems to be some kind of pattern hidden within these."

Isabella leaned in to observe closely. "Maybe it's a code or a spell."

They fell into a deep thought, and time ticked by, one second at a time. The only sound in the passage was their breathing.

"Could it have something to do with the Magic Array we encountered earlier?" Isabella suddenly asked.

Hu Yulun's eyes lit up. "Possibly. Let's try the method we used to break the Magic Array before."

They began to channel their magic, chanting incantations.

The Stone Door began to tremble slightly, emitting a low rumble.

"It's working!" Hu Yulun said excitedly.

They increased their magical output, and the Stone Door's trembling became more violent.

Finally, the Stone Door slowly rose, and a musty aura wafted out.

They entered the door, and before them was a huge room, with various mysterious objects arranged around the perimeter.

"What are all these?" Isabella asked curiously, looking around.

Hu Yulun cautiously walked forward, "Be careful, there might be traps."

Just then, a strange sound suddenly came from the corner of the room.

"What is that?" Isabella gripped her Magic Scepter nervously.

A giant spider crawled out of the shadows, its body covered in patterns, its eyes flashing green.

"Another monster!" Hu Yulun raised his sword, ready for battle.

The spider spat out a huge Spiderweb, which flew towards them.

Hu Yulun swung his sword, slicing the Spiderweb apart, while Isabella cast a spell to attack the spider.

The spider nimbly dodged their attacks while continuously counterattacking.

"This thing is too fast!" Hu Yulun gasped for breath.

"Don't worry, we'll definitely find its weakness," Isabella said as she attacked.

After a fierce battle, they finally discovered the spider's weak point was its abdomen.

Hu Yulun seized the opportunity and thrust his sword into the spider's abdomen.

The spider writhed in agony and finally collapsed to the ground.

"We finally got rid of it," Hu Yulun said, wiping the sweat from his brow.

They continued to explore the room and found an ancient book.

"This might be an important clue," Isabella said.

They opened the book, and it contained secrets about the Castle and the location of treasure.

"So the treasure is on the top floor of the Castle," Hu Yulun said.

They walked up the stairs, which were narrow and steep, each step fraught with danger.

"Be careful, Isabella," Hu Yulun warned from the front.

Finally, they reached the top floor of the Castle.

A massive treasure chest appeared before them, encrusted with various gems.

"Is this the treasure we've been looking for?" Isabella's eyes sparkled with excitement.

Hu Yulun stepped forward, ready to open the chest.

Just then, a magical barrier suddenly appeared, blocking their way.

"Looks like it won't be that easy to get," Hu Yulun frowned.

They began to study how to break the magic barrier.

After some effort, they finally found a way to crack it.

Hu Yulun opened the treasure chest, which was filled with precious treasures.

"We did it!" Isabella cheered.

They left the Castle with the treasures, the sunlight shining on them, illuminating their faces full of joy.

"This adventure was really amazing," Hu Yulun said with a smile.

"Yes, as long as we are together, there is no difficulty we can't overcome," Isabella replied.

They held hands and walked into the distance, continuing their journey.

Hu Yulun and Isabella, carrying their treasures, happily started their journey back. However, they hadn't gone far when they felt the atmosphere around them become strange again. The originally clear sky was gradually covered by dark clouds, which resembled a giant black curtain slowly descending. The wind howled, swirling the fallen leaves on the ground into small vortexes.

"This doesn't feel right. It seems like we're in for more trouble," Isabella said warily, looking around. She clutched her Magic Scepter tightly, her fingers slightly pale with tension. Her brow furrowed, and a hint of unease flickered in her eyes.

Hu Yulun stopped, his gaze fixed on the front. He pressed his lips together, his expression grave. "No matter what it is, we're ready." He took a deep breath, as if steeling himself, and at the same time, conveying a firm belief to Isabella.

As soon as he finished speaking, a group of mysterious figures in black robes appeared before them, blocking their path. These mysterious people were all tall, their faces obscured by the shadows of their robes, making it impossible to see their expressions. Only their eyes, gleaming with a cold light, were visible.

"Hand over the treasures, or you won't leave!" one of the mysterious people said coldly, his voice seemingly from the depths of hell, filled with menace.

Hu Yulun snorted, "Come and get them if you dare!" He gripped his sword hilt tightly, his body leaning forward slightly, taking a fighting stance. The flames of anger burned in his eyes.

Isabella whispered to Hu Yulun, "Be careful, they don't look easy to deal with." Her voice trembled slightly, but her eyes were still full of determination.

The mysterious figures began to cast spells, and rays of colorful light came rushing towards Hu Yulun and Isabella. Some of the lights were hot as fire, some were cold as ice, and some were sharp as blades.

Hu Yulun swiftly raised his sword to defend, his movements agile and powerful. The blade carved graceful arcs through the air, shattering the incoming magical lights one by one. "Isabella, look for an opening to counter!" Hu Yulun shouted, sweat beading on his forehead, yet his focus remained unwavering.

Isabella nodded, a determined glint in her eyes. She concentrated, channeling her magical power, muttering incantations under her breath. Her hands danced, as if playing an invisible melody. A powerful whirlwind formed in her hands, howling as it lifted several of the mysterious figures into the air.

Hu Yulun seized the opportunity, charging forward to engage the remaining figures in close combat. His sword flashed with cold light, each strike brimming with power. His eyes were fierce, and he roared, "Come on, you lot!"

The mysterious figures didn't back down, constantly changing their attack methods. Some clasped their hands together, unleashing bolts of lightning; others brandished their wands, summoning huge stones to hurl at them.

The battle reached a fever pitch, and Hu Yulun and Isabella gradually felt their stamina waning. Hu Yulun's breath grew ragged, and each swing of his sword felt heavier; Isabella's forehead was covered in sweat, and the glow of her magic began to dim.

Just then, Hu Yulun spotted the leader of the mysterious figures, who was standing behind them, directing the battle. The leader's black robe was embroidered with complex Runes, and the Magic Scepter in his hand radiated a powerful surge of magical energy.

"Isabella, cover me!" Hu Yulun shouted, a resolute gleam in his eyes. He exerted all his strength, fending off the figures in front of him, and charged towards the leader.

Isabella unleashed her magic with all her might. A dazzling light shot forth from her Magic Scepter, clearing a path for Hu Yulun. "Hu Yulun, be careful!" she cried out.

Hu Yulun finally charged in front of the leader, engaging in a desperate fight. The leader's magic was powerful and bizarre, putting Hu Yulun in a difficult position. But he didn't retreat, gritting his teeth and fending off the leader's attacks time and again.

After a fierce battle, Hu Yulun seized the opportunity and struck the Leader's vital point with his sword. The Leader groaned and fell to the ground, his Magic Wand dropping to the side.

Seeing this, the other mysterious figures scattered and fled.

"It's finally over," Hu Yulun said, sitting wearily on the ground, gasping for breath. His clothes were in tatters, and his body was covered in wounds, but his eyes were filled with the joy of victory.

Isabella walked over and handed Hu Yulun a bottle of recovery potion. "Drink this, and let's go home quickly." Her face was also weary, but she still wore a gentle smile.

The two rested briefly and continued on their way.

As they walked, they came to a rushing river. The water roared and surged, the waves crashing against the rocks on the banks, making a loud noise.

"The river is flowing so fast, how do we get across?" Isabella looked troubled, gazing at the turbulent river, her heart filled with worry.

Hu Yulun looked around and spotted a fallen tree. "We can use this tree to build a bridge and cross," he said, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.

They put in a lot of effort, like pulling nine oxen and two tigers, to push the big tree to the riverbank. Hu Yulun's hands were bulging with veins from the exertion, and Isabella was also panting from exhaustion.

Hu Yulun cautiously walked onto the tree, stepping towards the opposite bank step by step. His steps were a little shaky, and each step was taken with extra care.

Suddenly, a gust of wind blew, and the tree began to sway. "Careful, Hu Yulun!" Isabella shouted anxiously from the bank, her heart in her throat.

Hu Yulun struggled to maintain his balance, gripping the trunk tightly with both hands, his body swaying with the tree. "Don't worry, I can do it!" he shouted.

Finally, Hu Yulun successfully reached the other side. He secured the tree and waved to Isabella, "Come on over, Isabella!"

Isabella took a deep breath and stepped onto the tree. Hu Yulun kept encouraging her from the other side, "Take it slow, don't rush."

She finally made it across safely as well.

After overcoming many difficulties, they finally returned to their familiar village. As their figures appeared at the village entrance, the setting sun's afterglow was casting a soft golden veil over the entire village. Smoke was curling from the village, like light ribbons slowly rising into the air.

In the distance, farmers finished their day's work in the fields, shouldering their tools and heading home, chatting and laughing. Children chased each other and played on the village paths, their laughter echoing in the air.

The sounds of chickens and dogs could be heard, and cows lazily chewed their cud in the barns. The quaint houses were arranged in an orderly fashion, and wisps of smoke curled from the chimneys, carrying the warmth and scent of home.

The old locust tree at the village entrance was still flourishing, like a kind elder, quietly watching over this peaceful and harmonious village. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, as if welcoming them back.

Isabella took a deep breath, a happy and relieved smile on her face. "This is the taste of home."

Hu Yulun gazed at the familiar scene before him, and the weariness in his heart instantly vanished. "Yes, we're finally back."

They strode forward with light steps, heading towards the center of the village, eager to share their adventures with the villagers.

The villagers gathered around, praising their bravery and adventures.

"You are our heroes!" an old man exclaimed excitedly, tears welling up in his eyes.

"The treasures you brought back will definitely make our village even more prosperous!" a child exclaimed, jumping up and down.

Hu Yulun and Isabella exchanged smiles. "This was our shared adventure, and it's also a cherished memory," Hu Yulun said.

Looking at the enthusiastic faces of the villagers, Hu Yulun's heart was filled with warmth. "To be able to bring hope to everyone makes it all worthwhile."

Isabella added, "We will make the village even better, together."

From then on, they lived a peaceful and happy life in the village. Hu Yulun helped the villagers repair their houses every day, while Isabella used her magic to heal their illnesses.

On a sunny afternoon, Hu Yulun and Isabella sat in their yard, reminiscing about their adventures.

"Do you remember the battle with the Dark Flame Demon Lion? That was really thrilling," Hu Yulun said with a laugh.

Isabella nodded gently. "And the traps we encountered in the castle… every step was filled with danger."

"But we made it through, didn't we?" Hu Yulun held Isabella's hand.

"Yes, as long as we're together, nothing can defeat us." Isabella leaned on Hu Yulun's shoulder.

The setting sun cast its glow upon them, lengthening their shadows. Their story became an eternal legend in the village.
