Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Communication

Mater swayed his hips, walking to the living to see Selina curled up on the sofa. Her eyes widened while staring at the weird book on the table.

The book changed from an ordinary notebook to an ancient book with the face of a man screaming as the cover. It even had two new crystals embedded as eyes on it.

"What? What is going on? Why did it change?"

Selina reached her hand out to touch the book. The surface of the cover was rough and hard.

"I must burn it!" Selina grabbed the book.

"Stop right there, you crazy woman!"

Mater meowed loudly as he jumped on Selina, causing her to drop the Grimoire.

"What are you doing, Kitty?!"

Mater glanced at her then approached the book. He tapped his little paw on the cover and the book opened up.

The content inside the books were revealed to Selina. She saw the four paintings on the four pages.

The painting of a dark chain.

The paining of a large mouth.

The painting of prison bars.

And the painting of a pair of eyes.

The pages caught Selina's attention as she picked the book up. She slouched down on the sofa, eyes stayed fixed on the papers.

"What are these?!"

Mater climbed onto her lap. His paw flipped the page to a blank page. Then he scratched his claw onto the blank page.

Mater was using magic to reveal words on the page. This wasn't an inscription of a new spell, simply making letters appear to communicate with Selina.

His magic was limited so he could only use very short key words to communicate with her. He didn't want to waste all magic on communication.

Mater knew the language of this world so communication was not a challenge.

[SAFE]

The four letters appeared on the page. Mater pointed his paw on the word and then at himself.

"You mean the book is safe?" Selina widened her eyes.

Mater smirked and nodded. He made the second word appear.

[MINE]

The black cat pointed at the word and at himself again.

"This book is yours? You are David Rendell? How did you reincarnate into a cat?"

Mater rolled his eyes. This was the issue with single word communication. Selina could easily misunderstand him.

David Rende was probably the previous owner of this book.

A third word appeared.

[NO]

"You're not David Rendell? Then how is this book yours? Did this book change because of you?!"

"So many questions. I would run out of magic if the girl kept asking. Need to divert her attention elsewhere. Let me waste a bit more magic for a full sentence." The black cat meowed.

All the words disappeared. A new sentence was formed.

[I will help you with the ghost]

Selina's jaw dropped as she saw the sentence.

"You?! You!" She mumbled.

Mater nodded repeatedly.

"There is a myth circling around the internet that black cat is a hidden protector of the world. They repel ghosts and evil spirits away. Are you one of them, kitty?"

"Eh… I'm not that good. I'm a darklord! But you can think of it like that." Mater meowed.

The black cat nodded.

"Oh my god!"

Selina lunged at Mater and pulled him into her arms. "I know that my luck isn't that bad. You appear just in time, kitty! I really need your help!"

Selina hugged Mater a little tightly. But still, he didn't refuse it. Who in the wrong mind would refuse a pretty woman to bury you in her voluptuous chest? Not Mater.

Mater meowed again.

"What is your name, kitty? Can you tell me?"

Mater placed his claw on the Dark Grimoire again. He already wasted quite a good amount of magic for communication. A little bit more wouldn't change anything.

[MATER]

"Mater? Your name is Mater?" Selina said.

The black cat nodded.

"Nice to meet you, Mater. I am Selina Isles. A paranormal investigator."

Mater rolled his eyes and meowed. "I already know that, woman."

He jumped off from her arms and walked to the kitchen. His tail stood straight and waved with every movement of him.

He climbed onto the kitchen and pointed his paw at the pot.

"You're hungry? Do you want something to eat?" Selina said.

The black cat nodded.

"Let me go buy some cat food for you!"

Mater meowed and shook his head repeatedly. He already saw what cat food was like on the internet, he wasn't going to eat that. They're disgusting.

"Oh. What do you to eat then, Mr. Mater?"

Mater meowed then pointed to the door.

"You want to go with me? You want to choose your own food?"

Mater nodded. "Smart woman."

"Alright then. Let me go change."

"Oh? I want to see you change."

Selina went into her bedroom to change into more respectable clothing. Mater stood at the door and stared at her without blinking.

She already felt weird that the cat stared at her when she's showering. Now that she knew that it was intelligent. The feeling grew even more.

Selina came to the door to close it. Mater immediately slipped inside and jumped on her bed. He meowed in disagreement.

"You want to see me change?"

Mater didn't say anything. He lay on the bed and stretched himself.

Selina still felt weird about it but she reasoned with herself.

"What am I thinking? He is still just a cat. He can't do anything to me." Selina laughed at herself then continued changing.

Mater watched her closely, taking in all the pretty sight. "I can't do anything… Right now. But just wait until I am able to transform."

The cat's meow was mixed with a sinister laugh. Selina noticed that its eyes focused on her intensively, especially on her private parts.

Once she was done changing, Selina flicked the black cat's forehead.

"Stop thinking dirty thoughts, Mr. Mater! If you can help me, maybe I can adopt a female cat for you. She can be your wife!"

Mater shook his head repeatedly. "I like women! Not cats!"

Selina chuckled because of his reaction. She now wore a white crop-top that emphasized her slim waist with a pair of shorts that showed her long smooth legs.

She covered herself with a long piece of jacket outside.

"I have to say. The women of this world are much more daring than my previous world. If this is my world, people have branded you as a witch, woman!"

Mater meowed. He climbed on her shoulder and sat up there.

"Getting yourself pretty comfortable, huh?" Selina pet Mater's head. "Stay put, okay? Don't fall down."

"I won't." Mater meowed.

Selina exited the apartment. She stayed in a group of identical apartments in a run-down building. She didn't have a car or any motorbike, only a bicycle with a basket in the front.

Mater jumped into the basket and lay there. He and Selina exited the building on the bicycle. On her way out, the security guard there spotted her. It was a young man with a skinny frame.

"You bought a new cat, Selina?"

"Eh… Something like that, Mikey."

"Have a safe trip. The traffic is very busy today. Watch the streets, alright?"

"Thank you, Mikey. I will."

The young security looked back down at his phone as Selina ran away. For some reason, Mater did not like Mikey and he voiced his disapproval clearly.

"Calm down, Mr. Mater. Mikey is a nice guy."
