Deep inside the cave, the path kept leading and leading further into darkness. The light of the basement had disappeared completely.
Mater's eyes lit up in the dark. Thankfully, as a cat, he had a natural good vision in darkness.
Selina turned on the flashlight of her phone and slotted it inside the front pocket of her shirt.
Suddenly, a scream spread across the dark cave. All the hair on Selina's body stood up.
"We should go out and wait for the police, Mr. Mater!" Selina whispered.
"And let them rob my prey? Only a fool would do that." Mater meowed.
His eyes turned red and he channeled the little amount of magic inside him.
The Dark Grimoire in Selina's hands trembled without stopping. It flung open and slipped off her fingers.
"I don't like wasting magic like this. But letting Selina hold the book right now is ignorant."
Mater jumped up and the Dark Grimoire caught him in mid-air. He turned his head sideways to look at Selina one last time.
Selina couldn't understand the language of cats. But Mater's eyes knew how to convey his message.
"Mr. Mater?" Selina mumbled.
Mater squinted his eyes. "Turn back, pretty thing. This is no place for a mortal like you."
The black cat meowed. He and the book flew deeper into the cave, leaving Selina all alone.
"Mr. Mater… It's too dangerous for me, is it?"
The cave grew taller and wider the deeper Mater went.
At the end of the cave, a large hole was present. A hole with a questionable pool of dark red liquid.
"Blood…" Mater meowed. In his red eyes, the blood pool was full of chaos.
Beneath the surface, there were uncountable bones and flesh. The remains of poor souls that were killed for this ritual.
In the middle of the pool was a statue of a woman. It was a corpse.
That corpse was made into a living statue with cement and plaster. Its flesh merged to the hard cover outside and blood leaked out from the crevices of the surface.
Black metal chains wrapped around the statue and held it in place. Four metal pins were separated in four directions, linking the metal chains and securing them to the bottom of the blood pool.
"This is a ritual." Mater meowed. "A disgusting Chaos ritual. It isn't similar to a Warlock Ritual but was constructed in the same veins.
There are other Chaos Users in this world."
Suddenly, the pool shook. The statue in the middle trembled like something was screaming to get out.
"Here it comes. The Wraith of this house." Mater concentrated. He summoned all the little magic in his small furry body. "It is time to test [Desperation Scream]. If it can't damage the Wraith, I should be able to restrain it with [Chain of Shadow] and run."
Mater was underestimating the Wraith. In his mind, these non-intelligent beings knew nothing about using the Chaos inside them. Chaos might grant them more power.
But in the end, Wraith was nothing more than a mindless soul that lost their path to the afterlife. They were nothing compared to Warlock, a true user of Chaos.
The statue trembled even more. The four pins shot up from the bottom of the pool. The chains unwrapped themselves.
The Wraith was free.
The statue exploded into blood and flesh. A semi-transparent non-corporeal being flew out of the blood pool.
It was a woman in a tattered dress. Her entire body shined a green color. She had no weapon, only long elongated fingernails.
"No weapon? Someone tried to create a Chaos Wraith but this Chaos Wraith is even weaker than the usual Wraith. That Chaos User overdid the ritual."
The wraith spotted Mater and it immediately rushed at him. Its long fingernails aimed forward with the purpose of penetrating the cat and turned it into a sponge.
"Closer… Closer… Here should be it."
Mater opened his pink mouth. The Dark Grimoire flipped over to the second page, the painting of a mouth lit up.
"DESPERATION SCREAM!"
Mater growled. A shockwave shot out of his throat and blasted a 3-meter cone shape area around him.
The wraith ate the entire spell. It was sent flying backward. Its dress was torn by the shockwave and its little amount of rotten flesh peeled off of its skin.
The faded body of the wraith seeped under the ground and disappeared.
"[Desperation Scream] can push and damage. Very neat.
The original three spells of the Dark Grimoire are very useful."
Mater thought. His mind was still focused on the game.
The trickiest thing about a wraith was their ability to go through physical matter.
Mater controlled the book to fly a little bit higher from the ground, making sure the wraith wouldn't sneak attack him from beneath the ground.
The wraith emerged from behind Mater. His fur stood up.
The black cat jumped up and turned in the air. Its mouth opened wide.
"Eat shit!" Mater meowed.
A second [Desperation Scream] was executed. The cone-shaped shockwave blasted at the Wraith, sending it backward five meters.
The spell damaged the wraith even further. Most of the dress was torn apart, leaving only a flimsy piece of fabric around its waist. The flesh on its chest was blasted away, revealing the bloody ribcage underneath.
The wraith growled. It turned its back against Mater and dashed away.
"Run? Not so fast."
Chains reached out from darkness and wrapped around the wraith, restricting its movement.
The wraith wriggled and screamed but it was unable to escape the chains.
Mater jumped right at its face and opened its mouth.
"Good night!" Mater meowed.
The shockwave blew the head of the wraith clean off, leaving a lone neckbone at the place used to be its head.
The image of the wraith flickered. Its body shook like it had a seizure.
The semi-transparent body of the wraith shrunk and turned into three palm-sized dark red stones.
"Ah… Delicious Chaos."
Mater opened its mouth to catch the three stones. He swallowed them in one go.
Three small red circles appeared around his heart.
"Hmmm? These Chaos Stones seem to be weaker than the Chaos in my world. What could be the reason for this?"
Suddenly, the entire cave vibrated non-stop. The hair on the black cat stood up as it looked around in a panic.
"What is going on?"
All the blood and corpses in the pool of blood constricted. They formed a uniform body in the middle. A bloody humanoid figure with a pair of horns.
"Ah shit…" Mater meowed.
