"The book's passive ability is Fear Monger. All of my damaging spells have a minor chance of inflicting the Terror state when they hit.
Hmmm… Not bad. Not bad at all. This is a good passive ability.
Now let me see what the original three spells are."
Mater flipped the book open.
The first page had a painting of a chain and under it was the title and description of the spell. It was written in Mater's original language so the people here couldn't read it.
[Chain of Shadow]
[Effect]: Can restrain any corporeal or non-corporeal being for 12 seconds. Must have shadow or darkness nearby.
[Cooldown]: 30 seconds
"Oh? Corporeal and non-corporeal? Who's talking like this? Not me.
Basically the spell can restrain physical and spiritual beings. Because it was made in this world, it seems to have adopted the vocabulary of this world as well."
The term Non-Corporeal Entity circled the web non-stop. Mater had already come across this term when he used Selina's phone to learn this world language.
"12 seconds restrain for a 30 seconds cooldown. It is useful. Especially in this world where Wraiths are everywhere. What about the second spell?"
Mater looked to the second spell on the second page.
[Desperation Scream]
[Effect]: A huge scream that can push any corporeal and non-corporeal beings up to 5 meters away. The beings must be in front of you in a 3-meter radius for the spell to be effective.
[Cooldown]: 5 seconds
"This spell has very low cool-down. But can this spell be used offensively? The Grimoire doesn't specify whether the scream can damage the enemy or not. I need to test this spell more."
Mater flipped the page and looked at the third spell.
[Page of Imprisonment]
[Effect]: You can imprison any non-corporeal being in the Dark Grimoire. Each non-corporeal being takes the space of a page. The act of imprisonment can be resisted. Once imprisoned, non-corporeal beings lose all their power until release.
[Cooldown]: None
"No cool-down? Now this is a rare spell. Page of Imprisonment basically is the revenge of the owner of this book toward the wraith that has tortured him.
Hmmm. Very fitting.
Very well. I shall imprison whoever wraith you saw, previous owner. It is useful to me as well.
Maybe I can even enslave it by using the Submission Seal?
But that will require reaching Chaos Infusion level 3. Only then can I make another Chaos Artifact."
Chaos Artifacts were useful but they had their own limitations as well. Warlock could only own one type of Artifact in Chaos Infusion level 1 to level 2. They could make another Dark Grimoire if they had sufficient amounts of magic and material, but they couldn't make a Demonic Arsenal or Submission Seal.
Level 3 allowed a Warlock to make the second type of Chaos Artifact.
Level 6 allowed a Warlock to make the third type of Chaos Artifact.
Of course, it wasn't necessary to own all three artifacts. Some Warlock only specialized into one path.
"Now. I need to inscribe Chaos Eyes on the fourth page."
Mater looked around, trying to locate a suitable object for the inscription. Then he remembered he couldn't use a pen with this fluffy paw.
"Wait a minute… I wonder…"
Mater extended a claw out of his paw. It was sharp enough and he could directly infuse his claw with Chaos. Much more convenient than using an object.
"It is worth a try."
Mater scratched the fourth page with his claw. The papers of the Dark Grimoire were much more durable than ordinary papers and it took Chaos Magic to actually write upon it. Ink or any other material would slip right off the page.
Dark red magic reached out from Mater's heart and climbed into his claw.
Slowly, the sketch took shape. It was a sketch of a pair of eyes with cross-shaped pupils.
Mater carefully drew the image. Then he inscribed onto the page the name and description of the spell.
Once it was finished, the sketch spurred into colors. The cross-shaped pupils trembled while the rest of the eyes were filled with a red color.
[Chaos Eyes]
[Effect]: You are able to see the physical form of Chaos and any traces it left behind.
[Cooldown]: 3 seconds
"Unbelivable. Not only the magic required to inscribe the Grimoire is lower. The effect was also greatly enhanced. Is this the benefit of a cat toward Chaos?"
Originally, inscribing Chaos Eyes needed at least triple the amount of magic Mater just used. The cooldown in the Dark Grimoire was originally five minutes, now it was 3 seconds.
A cat had much less magic storage. But in exchange, it was more in tune with Chaos and could enhance the effect of spells.
Mater jumped off the table and climbed out the window. He sat on the rooftop and activated Chaos Eyes.
As he did, the fourth page lit up and all the letters shined a bright red color.
Mater's slit pupils turned into cross-shaped as he scanned the city.
Chaos. Chaos everywhere. Dark red energy that was filled with tainted negative emotions.
"Mmmm. Delicious. All these chaos are here for me to feast. I will catch you all.
MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
The cat laughed so loud that everyone in the neighborhood heard it. A neighbor stuck his head out of the window to see a crazy cat wailing in the night.
He took a bucket of water and splashed it toward Mater.
Mater took flight and avoided the water. He hissed at the man.
"Bugs off, crazy cat! I need to sleep!"
Mater hissed at the man again then slipped away.
"I will remember this, human. I will have my revenge!"
The black cat returned to Selina's house. It returned to the bed of the young woman and curled up inside her chest.
"Ah… The sweet scent of a woman. This is how I suppose to live. Bathing in beauty and the fulfilling of the flesh!"
The black cat meowed loudly. Selina grabbed him in her sleep and hugged him tightly. His entire face was buried in those soft 'pillows'.
"Damn. These are big pillows." Mater also went to sleep.
The night went away. The people in the ACPD and DSI were all panicking about what was influencing the weather.
No one knew that the culprit was a cat diving deep into the flesh of its woman at the moment.
The night was disturbed for no apparent reason. The weather went back to normal and the authorities marked this as a false alarm.
Mater was laying in Selina's bed when he heard a scream. The small cat's ears lifted up as Mater lazily stretched himself.
"She probably saw the Grimoire."
