Selina turned toward the voice and saw a short girl in tight leather clothes. The zipper of her shirt was purposefully pulled down to the middle of her chest, revealing parts of her lace bra.
"Where are your parents, kid?" Selina was truthfully concerned about the short girl. She didn't know that her words plunged into the girl like knives.
The girl covered her chest. "You?! How dare you insult me? I am not a child!"
"Oh? I'm sorry. I thought you were a toddler. Because of... You know." Selina smiled at the girl innocently and returned to taking pictures of the scenery.
"Hey! Stop right there! This is a crime scene! Citizens are not allowed!"
The short girl approached Selina and tried to jump up to grab her camera. Selina simply raised her camera up high.
"Please do not bother me. Go bother someone else, please." Selina said.
Veins bulged on the short girl's forehead as she breathed heavily. She took out a badge from her pocket and showed it to Selina.
It was an Ankh badge similar to the one Selina had. Hers was also an iron badge so she was the same level as Selina.
"See this? This is a badge of the ACPD. I am a police officer doing an investigation here. No citizen is allowed!"
"This spoiled brat!" Mater hissed. His golden eyes stared at the girl.
"What? You want to attack me with your cat or something?" The short girl said.
Selina sighed. She took out the same Ankh badge and showed it to the short girl.
"Selina Isles. Paranormal Investigator. I am also here to investigate the bounty."
"You?" The short girl's jaw dropped. "How? The ACPD lets anyone become a bounty hunter these days."
"Now if you excuse me, I have more important matters to attend to." Selina walked away from the short girl.
"Hey! Don't you want my help? I am Rebecca Martinez. I'm kind of a legend in Iron Rank."
Rebecca kept talking but Selina already walked away.
"Where should we investigate, Mr. Mater?" Selina whispered to the black cat.
The golden eyes of the black cat turned red. He looked around the area and spotted an unholy amount of Chaos.
Mater hissed loudly. "This place is dangerous, Selina. Stay sharp!"
Selina pet Mater gently to calm him down. "There is something wrong with this place, huh? I can also feel it, Mr. Mater. The air feels like mud and the place is exceptionally cold."
Mater pointed at an area with a lot of Chaos for Selina to follow.
This 'plot' of land was very large and included a vast field of grass and also many abandoned structures. It was acquired by a private company previously but they didn't make any attempt to refurnish it. Especially after the missing cases, this plot of land became even harder to work on.
Selina followed Mater's guidance and spotted an abandoned construction site. It seemed to be a tall building with potentially dozens of floors. However, the construction wasn't finished and the crews had left this place long ago.
They only built it five floors up then abandoned it.
"Should we enter?" Selina said.
Mater nodded.
The goth girl exited the grass field and stepped on the cement floor. The foundation of the building wasn't completed yet and some of the area still had exposed concrete pillars emerging from the ground.
Mater jumped off Selina's shoulder and walked around. The ground here was dry so he could finally traverse freely.
Selina followed the black cat. She took pictures of the abandoned construction site and stayed close to Mater.
Mater tried to find any signs of a wraith. This place had a very thick cloud of Chaos. Even if the missing people weren't there, it still should have some kind of connection to them.
Unfortunately, luck wasn't on Mater's side this time as he couldn't find anything special about this place.
"No wraith. No body. Then why does this place have so much Chaos?"
Mater couldn't figure out the reason yet.
He and Selina spent an hour here, checking everything and taking pictures. After they're sure that there wasn't anything left to investigate, Mater jumped on Selina's shoulder and left with her.
On their way out, Rebecca was there, she leaned on an unfinished pillar with a smirk on her face.
"Well? Find anything?"
"Why are you following us?" Mater hissed.
"Nothing out of the ordinary. Just an abandoned construction site." Selina shook her head.
Rebecca laughed out loud. "You should have listened to me! Hahaha! If you have asked me before going here, you wouldn't waste your time here.
Juniors need to respect seniors, you know."
"Okay, that's it. I'm killing her!" Mater opened his mouth. He was not kidding. This brat had provoked him enough. No one could disrespect his woman like that.
Selina quickly grabbed Mater's mouth, forcing it close. She saw him use [Desperation Scream] a few times so she knew exactly what he was trying to do.
Selina whispered, "Just ignore her. We don't need to waste our time with idiots."
"What did you say to me?" Rebecca shrieked.
Selina shrugged and continued to walk past her. "You really are wasting your time following me, Rebecca. If you really want to help the ACPD and help the family of those missing people, you should focus on your investigation. Not bothering me.
My cat is very obsessive and he does not like strangers near us. I recommend you stay away. I won't stop Mater next time."
Rebecca grinned, "You think a cat would scare me?"
As soon as she said that, Mater's eyes turned red and he stared at Rebecca. The girl was scared shitless as she shrunk back.
"That cat?! You?!"
Mater turned off his Chaos Eyes and ignored her. He and Selina went off to another location.
"Where should we go next?" Selina said.
Mater rubbed his paw on his chin. He thought for a while before climbing on top of Selina's head.
The black cat activated Chaos Eyes again. This plot of land was filled with Chaos and it was very big. It would be difficult to establish a good location to investigate.
His Chaos Eyes didn't show anything particular about any area either.
"Maybe I can find some clues on the internet?" An idea came to Mater.
He meowed to Selina and pointed his paw to her phone. Selina brought the phone to him.
Mater put his fluffy paw onto the screen. Images flashed on the phone and incomprehensible sounds flooded its speakers.
