Chapter 9 - Chapter Nine

Chapter Nine

Dawn Pov.

That scent and that face.. was unmistakable to me and coupled with how sensitive I now was to smell, it felt like reading an open book and not needing my eyes when I did.

"Yes I am a purple fox, are we done now?" I asked, returning back to my normal human form and he stared at me like I had suddenly grown to head.

I glanced up at my head but found nothing there. "Speak or forever hold your pea-"

"How could you be the purple fox and hide it!" He exclaimed and I felt my eyes slam shut as I raised my fingers up to wipe the saliva off my face.

"Why don't you scream that out loud one more time and make sure the entire fucking academy hears you!" I exclaimed also and his eyes took on a guilty sheen. Such cute beautiful striking eyes it was but… I shook myself internally to shake it off, not right now.

"But how could you do such a thing? The whole academy and beyond would go crazy to see you and the royal family would kill to…have you." His voice reduced at the end as if he realized why I hid it and I smirked.

"But that isn't the reason, or is it just me?" Rae Rae scratched at her paws in confusion and I smirked.

"Let him think whatever he wants, none of my business. But now that he says it, we still should take that into account," I returned and she nodded, her face twitching as she fell deep in thoughts and I finally focused again on the man before me.

"I brought you here for different reasons, your sister was poisoned." I informed him and his eyes widened with shock before he quickly walked past me and went to the bed.

"She's awake," he said out loud, his eyes scrutinizing me as if checking for something and I smiled.

"I'm aware. She woke up about two minutes into our conversation, and had been pretending since then." I replied, shrugging my shoulders.

"You're not worried about her?" He asked again and I smiled.

"Of course not, it's you who need to be worried if she can keep her mouth shut cause if she doesn't, well I don't need to remind you." I replied and Rae Rae scoffed.

"At your current level, you'd still fall short in beating him up and much more? killing him. But let me humour you," she said and I choked which got me curious looks from the duo but I covered it up with a cough.

"You saved me?" The princess suddenly asked and I glanced around the room in question.

"Is there someone else here that I can't see?" I asked and her face flushed red before she shook her head at me. "Then yes, I saved you. You have to pay though, I didn't use some lousy potion to heal you." I informed and her brows shot up.

"Potion? Which did you use?" She asked.

"What poison was it?" Prince Cristian asked also and I gave them a bored look.

"Really?" I asked and still, they stared at me expectantly. "She was poisoned with a rare and incurable poisonous herb called Nightmare," I said and they both gasped.

"I know that herb.. it's killed many other nobles and there had been no cure for it whatsoever so it was banned from the whole realm, who would have access to it now?" Blackwood said and I shook my head before turning to the princess.

"Your pay is a hundred gold coins, pay or I can extract my potion anyway," I smiled sweetly at their shocked faces.

"Really? You could buy a hundred potions with that amount of money, why don't you go rob a bank or something?" Rae Rae grumbled inside my head and I held back my laughter.

"What do you know, this is business. If I call something small, they'd think I was without money and I still have to keep up my image about being a noble, don't I?" I shot back and her ears perked up.

"I almost forgot about that" I gave her a funny look at that and she glanced away.

"What an unserious system," I mumbled under my breath, she really was unserious. If I hadn't thought about it, we'd both be dead.

"Okay.. But can you tell me how you di-"

"Not a chance, now get your sister and be off with you both." I shot up to my feet and quickly crossed the room to snatch away the piece of paper in his hands after his words.

A hundred gold coins written on paper, now that was quite a start on my upcoming business.

"How did y- you know know, don't bother. Come on Isabelle," he looked angry as he said that.. was he angry? Was he not angry? Why should I care? I don't.

I waved as they left and quickly shut the door behind them as soon as they crossed the threshold.

"Come on Rae Rae, we'll soon be so rich, you don't have to go a day without smiling." I whisper yelled to myself before plopping on the bed.

This was better than being an assassin, truly.

A knock once again came on the door and I groaned, why were they back again? I didn't have anything of theirs still here with me and even though that Prince was handsome, I could still punch his face in if he tria-.

"And end up in prison? Or under a fucking blade? Or maybe… dead!!!!" Rae Rae shot me down quickly and I smiled sheepishly.

"Sorry, I got too carried away" I said and she shook her head at me– "don't also get me killed with you," she turned away and I felt a huge smile creep onto my lips.

She was so damn cute.

I shook my head when the knock came again and I hissed before crossing the room to open it again.

"Listen, none of your things are…here…Corey?" I was surprised at his presence and he looked completely red, like he was holding back something.

"What's wrong with you?" I asked, stretching my hands out and producing a cup of water to hand over to him which he greedily gulped every last bit down before sending me a small smile.

"I… I came to c-check up on y--you," he said softly, his voice slightly breathy and I took a full minute to think about what he just said.

"You cake to do what now?" I asked dumbly and he scratched the back of his neck before passing me the cup of water and I stored it back into my space.

"I came to see if you were okay after the principal and then you ran after it," his voice was clear this time but it only served to let me know how much of an idiot I had been just three minutes ago.

Fuck me!
