Chapter 5 - chapter five: Dr.miyoko

We waited in that street for more than an hour

The time of the vision passed… silence followed…

and nothing happened

Nothing at all

Riko looked at me for a long moment then said softly:

"Genso… there's no point in staying Let's get something to eat Maybe it will help you clear your mind"

I didn't argue

I just kept staring at the same corner from my vision…

as if hoping something—anything—would appear and prove I wasn't wrong

But the night was quiet

Normal

Empty

I took a slow breath and finally said:

"…Alright Let's go"

We entered a small restaurant filled with warm lights and the smell of hot food.

It felt strangely calm compared to the street outside.

We sat in a corner table.

Riko set the menu aside and spoke gently:

"Genso, you're exhausted. All this pressure… it's normal to imagine things that feel real"

I raised my head sharply

"I didn't imagine anything"

He lowered his voice but stayed serious:

"I'm not calling you a liar But maybe… what you saw came from fear Or from what happened to your father"

I shook my head immediately

"No. The first vision happened exactly as I saw it The man with the black coat… the train… everything"

My voice rose more than I intended

Riko looked around nervously

And suddenly—

a soft voice behind us said:

"Did you say… a vision before it happened?"

We both turned

A young woman stood near our table maybe in her twenties

Short black hair

Calm face

A white medical coat resting on her arm

There was something sharp in her eyes—

curiosity… or something deeper

Riko tensed instantly

I didn't know what to say

She smiled politely

"Sorry I overheard a few words by accident"

Then she introduced herself:

"My name is Miyoko I'm a neurologist. I work at a hospital nearby May I sit with you? Your conversation sounded… interesting"

Riko and I exchanged a quick glance

There was hesitation—

but curiosity won

"Please, go ahead"

She sat gracefully placing her coat beside her

Then she looked at me directly

"So… you're the one who sees these visions?"

Riko answered for me:

"Yes. Genso"

Heat filled my chest—

a mix of embarrassment and fear—

but I told her everything:

the first vision the explosion the black-coat man

and the second vision that didn't come true

She didn't interrupt

She listened carefully analyzing every word

And when I finished she spoke with a thoughtful tone:

"What you describe Genso… might be connected to a rare neurological condition"

My heart froze

She continued:

"It's called temporal perception distortion.

In some cases the brain mixes between memories and expectations making a person feel as if he saw an event before it happened"

Then her eyes narrowed slightly studying me:

"It's a psychological and neurological mix Stress can trigger it. Trauma too"

It felt like the floor moved beneath me

"So you're saying…" I whispered

"that everything I saw… was just a mistake in my brain?"

She didn't answer immediately

"That is one possibility I'm not certain But the symptoms match"

I looked down at my hands

They were trembling

We finished our food in heavy silence

When we stood to leave, Miyoko pulled a small card from her coat and handed it to me.

"If anything happens again… call me I'll arrange a special appointment for you"

I took the card and bowed politely

"Thank you… Dr. Miyoko."

And as soon as I lifted my head—

I saw something I was never meant to see

Miyoko was smiling…

but not the smile of a kind doctor

A different smile

A smile of someone who knows

Knows something about me…

about the visions…

about what is happening inside my mind

Her eyes…

they weren't worried

They were analyzing me

It lasted less than a second—

but it was enough to cut through me like cold metal

Before I could think—

I felt Riko pull my arm gently

"Let's go It's late… we won't find buses if we stay longer."

I looked back at Miyoko one last time

She stood there calmly…

with a soft harmless smile

As if that strange smile from a moment ago

had never existed at all

But I knew what I saw

We stepped outside into the cold air

The night was darker… quieter…

yet my thoughts were louder than ever

Inside me grew one feeling stronger than everything else:

doubt

Doubt in my visions

Doubt in myself

And a far deeper doubt…in Miyoko
