Chapter 3 - New Arrival

I may not need to eat, but I can still taste, and damn this pasta is good.

Sophia though didn't order a thing, just staring me in the eyes during the whole meal. It was rather creepy and made a chill run down my spine.

"Why don't we hunt again, the two of us." She speaks out of nowhere.

Considering I have no memory of us hunting in the first place, it won't be again for me. But that question does make me wonder. The NPCs from the game carried over, so did the items and most the systems, but how. How is this world so close to the game? Was the game made to look like this world, or was the world made to look like the game?

It sounds like philosophy, but in truth, the answer to the question could change my perspective entirely. Hell it could change my actions…

I glance out the window as the sky begins to turn a misty red. Scarlet tentacles slither to and fro.

I don't remember an event like this being in the game.

In L&L there periodically would be world events, a noble besieging another noble's castle, a necromancer sending his armies against the capital, that kind of stuff. There are different then quests in the fact you don't need to accept them, and you can have as many players participate as that are in the server. Instead of rewarding the completion, you get certain drops for certain enemies. These events shift the world, creating a more dynamic experience.

"Sophia…" Before I could even say anything she had switched over to her armor. Is that a special skill? How did she do it so fast?

"Let's go crack some skulls." Her confidence is unraveling.

I suppose we are both in the level one hundred range, even if a level three hundred mob showed up, we could probably stomp it. Though a level one hundred fifty boss could still probably beat us. That is just how L&L works, bosses are far superior to normal enemies.

"Lets." I grab my helmet from my inventory holding it in my armpit.

Arriving at the gates, dozens of players and NPCs have gathered, all with some kind of fear etched onto the faces.

"Move aside, Supreme is coming through." The crowd splits with her words, allowing us out the barely opened gates.

Standing there in the distance is a freakish man, with a technical for an arm and a wide brim hat. "Howdy." He waves to us. "Did I just catch some big fish?"

He doesn't have name tag?

Warning, a pop up appears in my vision.

Otherworldly entities, these beings are from another world, and don't follow many of this world's rules. Can only see their level if they are within fifty levels of the player, that is not including if they are a lower level than yourself.

The pop up vanishes.

So he is at least level 151, I don't know rather to be afraid or laugh. I am way too giddy, there hasn't been an update this big in years.

"I am Loctrace, is it a fight you seek?" I slide on my helmet, resting my palm on my handle.

Sophia draws a long black spear out of thin air, entering the chinese lowered spear stance.

"Well we could fight." A toothy grin stretches over its face. "My name is messenger, I am here to inform this world of my king's arrival. To the north, we have built our own lands, from there we shall conquer this pathetic world."

It is funny how skills work sometimes. So as you know there is the dash and burst skills, but what happens if you use them at the same time, you might think they would cancel out, but no, they combine. This is called skill stacking, and pros use this to do insane things.

Like Sophia who has just broken the sound barrier, arriving before the tentacle freak in a fraction of a second. Her spear posed for a piercing strike. And it lands, entering a grab animation, the spear goes through him, and Sophia pulls him over her head, chucking him ten feet.

240

100

For just a normal two attack combo, it is quite a lot of damage. Yet the tentacle man stands back up with twitching eyes. "I wasn't finished talking." He complains.

He was run through, and yet you can't see a single scratch, is he some kind of slime? In that case piercing attacks aren't the best choice in this scenario, if he is above level 150 his health points should be close to 1400. That is a lot, but even so we are also doing a lot of damage, it all depends on his following moves.

I get in between Sophia and the messenger, my sword raised.

It's like that, that a blow smacks into my side, my feet skid, and I almost lose ballance.

-12

He didn't move though? I was watching. Just one moment I was standing there, and the next I was hit.

Sophia glances at me. "He is using mana, do you not have a skill to sense it?"

Mana? So that was a spell? But I didn't hear him chant.

"Why are you so hard?" The tentacle freak complains. "It is like hitting a castle wall."

Damn right, I am the tankest man to ever tank. Unlike those losers with shields, I have a spare hand. Drawing a stone from my inventory, I break it within my hand.

The dust floats into the air forming into a lesser jin.

Level 80, lesser jin.

I have a hundred of these suckers, took hours of grinding, but they are the third best summon in L&L.

They possess the dust attribute, meaning ninety percent of non-magical attacks miss. Wait, I messed up didn't I.

Within an instant the jin returns to ash. Okay that was my mistake, but how about this. I grab a talisman. Throwing it into the air.

Chains begin to grow from the ground raping the messenger in there chainy glory.

Take that, it is a legendary item, heavenly chains, got it on the same quest as my ring.

"Well?" I smile at Sophia, not that she could see it with the helmet and all.

"You wasted a legendary item on this trash!" Why is she scolding me? I just wanted to show off. "I swear, next time just leave the fighting to me." Is she also calling me useless, why is everyone so mean.

Sophia walks up to him, and executes attack after attack until the messenger turns to ash.

You leveled up.

Level 100 +8 Level 108

Eight whole levels from that, and wait, my evolution gauge just filled up a bit.

I can evolve, and level up, that is awesome.

Wait, actually wait, let me do the math.

How much EXP did I need to level up, and how much would the guy's level need to be?

370 that is what I came to the conclusion of, it is the largest mob level I have ever seen, maybe it wasn't a waist of a legendary item.

I turn to all the lower level players. These noobs would have been slaughtered. Luckily I was here.

Sophia nudges me, and I slide off my helmet, just in time for her to plant a kiss on my lips. I stubble back, this is sexual assault damn you. But she just smiles while handing me a rod.

Rod of fate, this item signifies the start of a war, the enemy will attempt to steal it back, and if they do, their forces will grow stronger.

So this is a protection quest kind of thing?

"What do we do?" I ask.

"What do you mean?" Her smile grows. "Let's farm them."

My heart throbs, what a smart and forward thinking wife. "Let's."

One would call us insane if they heard our evil laughter.

Now that I think about it, a lot of people did hear us. Perhaps they think us insane.
