Chapter 5 - The message

Message from Misty Hero. I click on it.

Yo.

One word, are you fucking kidding me?

I send another message.

Can you say more then one word.

Message from Misty Hero.

Sorry, I am in my secret grinding spot. I have reached level a hundred and twenty, but it seems my EXP gain has dropped massively, might have to switch locations.

She gained twenty levels, in the span of a few days, what a monster.

"What are you looking at?" Sophia questions.

I had no response, but to continue gazing into the sky.

Planting my sword into the ground, I watch the dozen of soldiers liened up before me.

"Sir, the scout came in, the enemy brigade is moving onto our city. "

"Numbers?" I turn around watching the advancing enemy.

"About fifty men."

"Well they must be idiots, our city wouldn't fall to fifty men. Ain't that right boys!" I fling my hand into the air. And magic spells begin to arch over the wall. Lightning, fire, Ice, all collide into the ground explosions erupting, and dirt spits up into the air.

Before they could even reach the walls their numbers were thinned to a mere five. They hover seemed much stronger, But I could still see there level.

Level 121, abyss demon.

It is like a black suit of armor was possessed, and began to walk around.

"Still just chumps." Sophia stabs the moving armors, slaughtering them one by one.

Level 108 +1 level 109

"Back to your stations, the enemy has been eliminated." The men scatter leaving me alone.

Are they not taking us seriously? This is the second wave, and there numbers have barely improved. I recon we would be fine even if I left. My knights didn't even get to participate fell petes sake. Speaking of. I turn to the boy behind me. He is clearly not a higher vampire. "What did you evolve into?" I ask.

"A vampiric lord." On his head is a crooked set of horns that resemble a crown. "It said it was a unique evolution."

What is a unique evolution? This is getting out of my realm of knowledge. "Attack me full force."

I make sure my helmet is on tight. His staff collides with my head, and I feel my knees snap, and my skin melt.

-600

Gasping, my body works at double time to get itself back together.

He almost one shotted me? How? He didn't even cast a spell beforehand. I should have been able to easily shrug off one of his blows.

"Only six hundred?" Arch complains.

Anymore and I might be dead right now. "What does your class do?" I question.

He smiles. "For ten seconds I get an infinite amount of health."

Wait, did I just take infinite damage? No, that's not how the skill works, it increases the amount of damage for the health sacrificed, yes, but it has a hard cap, and that is one thousand HP. His racial ability just made him an unkillable demigod. I am smelling cheese.

"So your damage is about the same as if you casted the health spell." I educate him. "But the fact you can now do it more than once makes you very powerful." Or should I say cheesy.

Who's my new best DPS, that's right, it's you. I want to pinch his cheeks so bad.

"Father stop." He swipes away my hands.

Damn his strength, how am I being out stated by a cleric? Even with my ring's bonuses.

"Boss." Leona waves as she comes into sight.

"Work with Lock on clean up duty." I immediately send the backstabber away.

If you were wondering what I meant by clean up, it is simple, I can sense a scout watching me. It is a superb skill, predator's senses. In the game it just made it impossible to be ambushed, but here.

I glance off into the distance, causing a tree to sway. Sucks for you, because Leona never lets a play go.

Two minutes later, I am brought the goblin's corpse, like a dog gifting their catch.

It just occurred to me that I should have let him go, that is probably why the waves haven't grown much in size. They probably thought the enemy can't be that strong, and we have no intel, so send a second scouting wave.

I'll just have to let the next one go.

"I am about to level up." Leona proclaims.

Even so, it was Lock who brought back a group of noncombatance. It seems even the demon's army runs on food. Something something, true tacticians study logistics, not strategy. That's not how the quote goes, but who cares. We got some unique drops.

Abyss demon's chipped armor.

These living armors were created as massed foot troops, and tend to absorb the magic so the true combatants can breach the line. As such their armor absorbs mana.

It is a crafting material, I wonder what I can do with it?

"Sir!" A soldier runs up to me fast. "A whole core has arrived."

What a core? But they were just sending a brigade. "How many?"

"Three hundred well trained and armored men, not to be rude, but I think we should call for reinforcements." Reinforcements? There are none. But I can't tell him that.

"Bring back the troops, and call the knights immediately."

Even in this city, the highest level soldier is thirty five. They aren't the best in the world, but as I said before, two half the level, can beat one full level. So two of them can beat one level sixty. But there are only eighty of us, that is not exactly six hundred. But I have yet to fear, as some of the Supreme guild members have arrived, on average they are level sixty, and there are ten of them. That may seem small, but that vastly increases our odds. I crack three stones in my hand, summoning lesser jins. "Let's give them hell!"

The army breaches the tree line, just in time for a rain of magic to meet their faces.

Like artillery, the ground explodes, and limbs shoot about, blood filling the air in a red mist.

A group of Abyss Demons step forward begging their charge. "Don't shoot the moving armors." I command the mages.

With a flick of my finger Mack jumps off the wall, landing softly on the ground. "Sorry friends." He speaks before bashing their heads in with his fists.

"Switch out!" The mages, that are zapped of mana, retreat to the back line, and in their place crude archers begin to rain arrows. To say this was less effective would be an understatement, we went from keeping them at bay, to hundreds of men charging straight for the wall. Still some drop to the floor, arrows logged between their eyes. "Spears." Eighty spears aim down the wall, hitting the men who attempt to climb. It was at this moment I saw Mack getting swarmed, and I finally give the command. A gust of wind sweeps the whole core off their feet, men collide with their comrades' weapons, and others are crushed to death by the weight of their own armor. The jins shriver up, collapsing to the floor as dust.

With disorder rampant, they ended up accidentally killing even more of their own men, and a retreat was called.

I didn't even get to see their commander, that is unfortunate.

Level 109 +4 Level 113

Simple as, I suppose. Didn't even need the ten from Supreme. Hell I didn't even use my trump card, AKA Sophia.

Too bad I have no way of getting more lesser Jin's, or else the whole world might face my wrath.

"I see." Sophia makes it up to my side. "You're using summons to make up for your shit damage."

Damn even my wife won't stop insulting me. "Yeah, yeah. But don't act like it didn't work, it's like we have a high level wind mage at our side."

"A high level wind mage, that dies after each use." She corrects me. "Anyways, your commanding has improved, most other cities would have just sent their best men to brawl in the front line."

"I kinda can't do that with my subpar damage." I grumble. That is why I strategize. I have memorized every skill in the game, and implement it, to increase my odds of victory. That is why we became the number one guild. Thanks to my guidance. Achew. I sneeze. Someone must be talking about me. I imagine it is my great deeds.

Sophia looks at me with shock. "How did you do that?"

"Do what?" I ask.

"How did you sneeze?" Is it such a big deal?

"I just sneezed, is all."

"Undead can't get sick, we don't have allergies, and we most certainly don't just sneeze." She is treating it like the world is going to end.

"Who cares." I rub my nose.

"I care, I want to know how you did it?" She waves her hands around, but I just ignore her.

"Enemy has been confirmed, they retreated past the Red Tooth Mountains." Nick reports.

Great, that means the battle is ours. "Send scouts east of here."

"But that is lord Vex's territory?" He questions my orders.

"I said do it, so go and do it." My words cause him to run off.

If you can't take a city from the front, the answer is to split into two smaller armies and attack from both sides, thus splitting up the already small defenders. It is like a basic level strategy, nothing Hannibal and Scipio would come up with, but assuming my enemy is not some master strategist, that should be the first thing to come to mind.

It would be easy, except for the river that runs across the east wall, and the coast that runs across the west. So he will send his troops far out, and bridge the river, this will be the perfect time to strike. "Mack and Lock, get horses, I want you to head to the village of nested hills. Take a few scouts with you, and watch the river."

They both rush out, leaving me with only a few elites left.

We should have a few hours before they begin their next assault. If I keep this up, I could evolve by level one hundred and thirty. I won't have to worry about jack. Speaking of, why hasn't Sophia evolved?

"Hey Sophia." I say causing her to jump down from the building she climbed.

"What's up?" She stands at my side.

"Why haven't you evolved?" I ask. She is more than high enough of a level, so that bags the question.

She tilts her head. "I wanted to stay the same race as you." What a moronic answer, the amount of gains one gets from a single evolution is enough to change your power all together. "Speaking of, you're ancient, yet why did you choose to stay at level one hundred?"

Because that was the level cap, I would have gladly gone all the way to a thousand. "Strangth only matters, if you have a cause to use it." I speak some wise words I read off a novel.

She smiles. "That was a cool line." Was it? I think I am rather cringe. It isn't even my own line.

"I believe some day, there will be a time when all of us are met with a challenge, one so hard it makes us question our values." That is the elder of the starting villages line before you leave, but does she know.

"Hey I know that guy." She pretends to lean on a cane, slouching over. "It is us who stand before the gate of honor, and ask what it means to stand here."

Wo, that's what he tells you before you fight the final boss. "Does he just say that to everyone?" I have to question.

"Well he is senile." She responds with a laugh. "He probably thinks everyone is going to save the world singlehandedly."

"In our hearts we grapple against giants, but in reality we behead gods." Those were the lines you get for slaying the final boss.

"Damn is this quote off." She smiles. "To take a life is the most sacred task, so do so with care." That was when he asked you to hunt a slime in the tutorial.

No one can beat me with quotes. "It is us who were born to ask the most dark questions." That is what you get for killing a noble.

"Be gone with such worries, and put the world in the palm of your hand." He says that when you die for the first time.

"Adventure is a title given to the bold, the hungry, the greatest, not those who fear to take a single step." Take that, there is no way you have another quote.

"Understanding is the first step in mastery." Dang she even knows what he tells you for reaching level one hundred.

I sigh. "I give up."

"Get recked." She jumps into the air, landing with the widest smile.
