Chapter 13 - Supreme Alpha

13

MASON

Something was honestly wrong with me. How did I let my guards down? I wasn't one to care about people's feelings but when Isobel continuously ignored me, I got worked up and I wanted to be the subject of her attention, but how?

I didn't know how to start up a conversation so I did the only thing that came to mind. I acted on impulse and spilled wine on the floor she had just cleaned.

But Isobel, insistent on ignoring me, quietly wiped it clean. I should have deduced that she wasn't in the mood and stopped but I foolishly did it again, not once but thrice and that tickled her off.

I felt satisfied that I had finally gotten a reaction out of her and I should have stopped there, right? But no, I kept it on, even going as far as telling her that everyone in her life would leave.

I didn't mean it in a derogatory way, I only wanted her to appreciate my presence and not act like I was a thorn in her flesh but Isobel seemed to take it the wrong way and dashed out but before that, I noticed that she had teared up.

I tried calling her back, even using my Alpha authority but she ignored it all and fled. I just needed to give her space to clear her head and realize that she misunderstood my words right?

"Way to go, Mason." Rufus, my wolf, said sarcastically , "Good job!"

"I did nothing wrong." I was quick to defend myself, "she was the one who misunderstood my words."

"I didn't say you were wrong,I even congratulated you." He replied and then he shut me off.

I sighed deeply, refusing to pay heed to Rufus because ever since I found Isobel, he had constantly been in disagreement with me. It's nothing new.

"Man, I must say, you didn't act right," Logan's voice rang out of nowhere and then he came in through the window.

"You were eavesdropping on me." I accused, half annoyed that he intruded and also intrigued by his words.

"I couldn't help it, Man." He said, "I came to see you and when I saw you had company, I stood back, waiting for you to finish and that was when I heard everything you said to her."

"But she started it," I said and instantly I realized that I sounded like a child.

Logan seemed to have realized it too as he burst into laughter. "Come on man, don't be like this"

"Like how?" I said with a frown, offended that he wasn't with me on this one.

"You've got to apologize," he said.

But I don't apologize. I don't think I have ever apologized to anyone. I was an Alpha and by that means, I was always right.

"…and before you say you won't, you should take a look at yourself in the mirror. You look tormented," He added with a smile.

"I don't." I argued.

"Whatever you say," Logan surrendered, unwilling to argue with me.

The conversation ended and I could only hope that everything returned to normal, right? But no, it only worsened.

Isobel's behavior towards me changed completely. Not only did she ignore me, she also treated me like every other omega would treat an Alpha. She no longer addressed me as Mason, instead she called me Supreme Alpha.

I should've been happy, right? Since I craved respect from everyone but I felt displaced. It felt like a part of me was slowly withering away. It bothered me. Her attitude towards me pissed me off.

"Are you okay?" Logan asked one day after he had presented the report for the day.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I answered, not fully paying attention to him "why do you ask?"

"Because I just read out the report and you didn't say a word."

"I'm sure you have everything sorted out," I said dismissively, clearly not in the mood to think about the report.

I heard Logan sigh deeply and then he took a seat, "If there's something bothering you, I'd like to know."

"There's nothing! She can go to hell for all I care" I said, sounding annoyed that he brought it up.

"I never mentioned anyone," he said quietly.

Oh. Well, that was awkward.

Logan and I sat in silence and after a while, he asked, "you like her, don't you?"

"She's my sister," I said in order to remind him, and myself while I was at it.

"That's not a no," he pointed out with a smile.

"I'm not in the mood for that, Logan. You may leave," I was already worked up and I didn't need him adding to it.

"You should apologize," he said and this time, it didn't sound like a bad idea. "She seems to be as miserable as you,"

His words piqued my interest and I couldn't help but ask, "Really?"

"Yeah," Logan responded, "Do what's right man," he said and after which, he took his leave.

I sat in silence, contemplating on what to do and then I finally decided. Coincidentally, a knock sounded on the door and Isobel walked in.

"I'm here to take out the leftovers," she said, pointing to my breakfast, and I nodded.

Isobel quietly walked towards the table and began packing up. I watched her in silence and when it seemed like the right time, I said, "pack your bags, you're coming with me."

"I'm afraid I can't do that, Alpha." She said in that polite tone that grated on my nerves, "I am a member of Shadow pack, I can't leave."

Says the person who tried to run away twice, so much for being a member.

"I don't want to wait for you, Isobel. We'll be leaving by 4pm," I declared and she nodded in response.

I didn't necessarily need her to come with me on this trip to Moonlight pack, but I saw it as an opportunity to make things right between us and I sure as hell won't be messing it up.
