MASON
Just like I instructed, Isobel was ready and standing outside with her duffle bag in her hands. Although I had seriously told her that she shouldn't keep me waiting, I had expected her to come up with an excuse or maybe hide from me so she wouldn't go with me but here she was, standing with a huge frown on her face.
"Alpha Mason, are you sure you want to go with Isobel?" Her friend, Quinn, I think, suddenly said from beside her.
"What do you mean?" I asked seriously.
"You know, Isobel is a very timid girl and she can't stand being in the presence of strangers, especially high profile Alpha's, I don't want her to embarrass you."
I stared at Quinn, but before I could reply, Isobel chimed in, "Quinn!" She called her out and her eyes were wide in shock like she didn't expect her friends to say something like that.
"I'm just looking at for you," she rolled her eyes and said with no atom of remorse and then turned to me with a wide smile on her face, "I think you should reconsider, Alpha Mason,"
"That's enough!" I said angrily, "Your presence is not needed, get out!"
"But Alpha—," she tried to explain herself but I cut her off.
"I said get out!"
Quinn frowned and then turned around and walked away but not before glaring at Isobel. I could tell that Isobel was surprised but she didn't say a word.
I couldn't believe that that girl's her friend, much more her best friend! There's a lot of things I have to look into because it didn't sit right with me.
"The car is ready to go," Logan said as he came to stand beside me.
"Thank you," I muttered, "Keep an eye on the park and report anything unusual to me immediately,"
"Of course," Logan replied, then he turned to Isobel and the seriousness in his eyes vanished and was replaced by a playful glint.
"You sure you want to go with him? You look scared."
I frowned and I waited to hear her response.
"I don't have a choice," she replied almost as playfully as Logan.
Logan chuckled, then he smirked, "Don't worry, he doesn't bite," and just when I thought he was done, he added, "Not unless he wants to get naughty."
"Logan!" I called him with a frown and he laughed loudly.
"Well, there's nothing to worry about. You're siblings, right?" The way he looked into my eyes when he said those words made me realize that he knew something.
I turned to look at Isobel and I couldn't help but notice how red her cheeks were but she tried her best to keep a straight face.
I coughed to clear the awkward air "That's enough, we need to get going. Logan, keep watch." And without waiting for his response, I began walking towards the car, and from the corner of my eyes, I saw how Isobel specifically said her goodbyes to Logan and it made me frown.
The ride to Moonlight park was quiet and to be honest, there was no need to take Isobel along with me but I wanted to clear the awkwardness between us. I was attracted to her even when I knew that I shouldn't be. She was my sister for goddess's sake but somehow, that wasn't enough to hold me back.
I snuck a glance at her and she had her head turned to the window and her body was glued to the door. It was as though she couldn't bear to be in the same space with me and it irked me.
Unable to hold back, I said in frustration, "You might as well just open the door and jump out."
"Well, I didn't want to come with you but you forced me so that's what you get. Don't complain," she finally said and although she wasn't polite with her words, it was more than enough. It was better than her monotone words.
"Would you rather stay back and be with my mother and your so called friend, Quinn, who wouldn't hesitate to throw you under the bus?" I asked, and glanced at her before turning back to the road.
Finally, she turned to look at me and I could sense the hesitation in her. "What?" I asked.
"Quinn is not like that." She said in a very low voice, "Maybe she's stressed or something."
I stared at her for a while and then I nodded. She probably trusted her friend but I didn't. The girl was up to no good but for now, I'd just let it go.
From that moment, till we got to moonlight park, neither of us said a word to each other. We just sat in silence, as both our heads were in chaos.
"Alpha Mason, it's good to see you again." Alpha Francis, the Alpha of Moonlight park, greeted us with a smile as he shook my hand firmly.
"It's good to see you too, and drop the formalities, Francis." I said and he chuckled deeply, then he turned to Isobel who stood silently behind me.
I didn't like that she was standing behind me when she could have been by my side. It made her look small and timid like her friend said.
"It's good to see you, Isobel. I'm Francis, Mason's old time friend." He introduced himself to her and stretched his hand out for a shake to which she stepped forward and politely took his hand.
I could see the confusion on her face as she looked at me and then back at Francis, probably wondering how he knew her name, and I knew that once we were alone, she'd bombard me with several questions. I couldn't wait.
"Now, let me show you to your room." Francis said and just as expected, he had a mischievous smile on his face as he led us both to a beautiful room at the east wing of his pack house.
"This is where you two will be staying." He said as he showed us the room, and before I could even give him a response, Isobel asked with wide eyes, "We'll share a room?!".
