Chapter 13 - *THE SHADOW OF DOUBT'S*

As they stood there, frozen in fear, Wale's mind was racing. What was Victor planning? How had he found out about their new life? And what did he mean by saying that Wale wouldn't live happily ever after?

Maya's eyes were wide with fear, her grip on Wale's arm tightening. "What do we do?" she whispered, her voice trembling.

Wale took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart. "We need to be careful," he said, his voice low and steady. "We can't let Victor ruin our lives."

But as he looked into Maya's eyes, he knew that it was already too late. Victor had already planted a seed of doubt in their minds, and it was starting to take root.

"What if he comes after us?" Maya asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Wale's jaw clenched. "I'll protect you," he said, his voice firm. "I'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe."

But as he looked into Maya's eyes, he saw the fear and uncertainty there. He knew that he couldn't promise her that everything would be okay, because the truth was, he didn't know if it would be.

The silence between them was oppressive, heavy with the weight of their fears and doubts. Wale knew that they needed to do something, to take action, but he didn't know what.

And as they stood there, frozen in uncertainty, Wale's phone suddenly beeped, indicating a text message. He looked at the screen, and his eyes widened in shock.

"It's Victor," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "He's sent me a picture."

Maya's eyes were wide with fear. "What is it?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Wale's heart was racing as he opened the picture. And then he saw it.

A photo of them, taken just hours ago, as they stood in their new home, lost in the love they shared.

The message was clear: Victor was watching them, waiting for them.

And Wale knew that they were in grave danger.

And while they knew that they were in grave danger, Wale's mind was racing with thoughts of how to protect Maya and himself from Victor's wrath. He knew that Victor was a ruthless and cunning man, and he would stop at nothing to destroy them.

Maya, sensing Wale's tension, looked up at him with fear in her eyes. "What are we going to do, Wale?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Wale took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart. "We need to get out of here, now," he said, his voice firm and steady. "We can't stay in one place for too long, Victor will find us."

Maya nodded, her eyes wide with fear. "Where will we go?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Wale thought for a moment, trying to come up with a plan. "We'll go to my friend's place, he's a cop, he can help us," he said, his voice filled with determination.

Maya nodded, and Wale quickly grabbed her hand, pulling her out of the house. They ran to the car, Wale's eyes scanning the surroundings, looking for any sign of Victor or his men.

As they drove to his friend's place, Wale couldn't shake off the feeling that they were being watched. He kept looking in the rearview mirror, expecting to see Victor's car behind them.

But there was no one.

They arrived at his friend's place, and Wale breathed a sigh of relief as they pulled into the driveway. He knew that his friend, Alex, would be able to help them.

They got out of the car, and Wale quickly led Maya into the house. Alex was sitting on the couch, watching TV, and he looked up in surprise as Wale and Maya burst in.

"Wale, what's going on?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.

Wale took a deep breath, trying to explain the situation. "It's Victor, he's after us," he said, his voice low and urgent.

Alex's expression turned serious, and he nodded. "I'll help you, Wale, you know that," he said, his voice firm.

Maya collapsed onto the couch, her eyes filled with tears. "What did we do to deserve this?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Wale sat down beside her, pulling her into his arms. "It's not your fault, Maya, it's Victor's," he said, his voice filled with conviction. "We'll get through this, together."

As they sat there, holding each other, Wale knew that they would face whatever challenges lay ahead, as long as they had each other.

But as he looked at Alex, he saw the concern in his friend's eyes. Alex knew that Victor was a powerful and ruthless man, and he was worried.

Wale's phone suddenly beeped, indicating a text message. He looked at the screen, and his eyes widened in shock.

It was Victor.

"You're running, Wale, but you'll never be able to hide," the message read.

Wale's heart sank, and he knew that they were in grave danger.

As they sat there, frozen in fear, Alex's phone rang, breaking the silence. He answered it, his voice firm and steady.

"Hello?"

There was a pause, and then Alex's expression turned pale. "What do you mean?" he asked, his voice trembling.

Wale's eyes narrowed, sensing that something was wrong. "What is it?" he asked, his voice low and urgent.

Alex looked at him, his eyes filled with fear. "It's the police station," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "They've been attacked, and all the evidence against Victor is gone."

Maya's eyes widened in horror, and Wale's heart sank. They were running out of options, and Victor was closing in.

As they sat there, frozen in fear, Wale knew that they had to do something, but he didn't know what.

The clock was ticking, and Victor was getting closer.
