Seeing Goku confused, Roshi explained:
"You mean Chi-Chi? I'm taking her as a disciple."
Goku blinked. "You're taking her?"
Roshi nodded. "Yes. You're Grandpa Gohan's grandson. Gohan asked me to take you, so I agreed.
A couple days ago the Ox-King visited me. I met his daughter, and her talent and temperament seemed pretty good, so I decided to take her too.
Your grandpa Gohan and her father the Ox-King are both my disciples. I can't favor one and not the other. If I take you, I must take her."
Goku paused, slowly understanding.
But this was already way off the original timeline.
He'd wanted to keep some distance from Chi-Chi…
…yet now she'd be training with them.
Wouldn't that make their relationship even closer?
In his last life he'd been a shy, slightly self-loathing introvert who hated getting scolded.
Reincarnating here had helped a lot.
But remembering the adult Chi-Chi from the original story—always yelling at Goku—still made his spine go cold.
Still, he couldn't refuse her joining.
And honestly, kid Chi-Chi was pretty lovable.
So he could only blame the damned butterfly effect.
Roshi went on, "I also had them search for you. Didn't find you, and then you came yourself.
From now on you're senior and junior disciples together. Be united and friendly."
Goku nodded. "Understood, Master."
The plane landed smoothly, and the Ox-King and Chi-Chi ran over.
Chi-Chi wore a dazzling smile as she trotted toward Goku.
It was so sweet it could melt ice, making her already cute face look even brighter.
Krillin stared at her and almost lost his soul.
He stepped up quickly. "Hi! I'm Krillin!"
Chi-Chi completely ignored him, rushing straight to Goku.
"Goku! So you were here! I've been looking for you for days!"
Krillin stood there, awkwardly scratching his head.
This gorgeous girl didn't even acknowledge him—she went right past him to Goku.
His chest clenched like he'd just taken ten thousand critical hits.
Chi-Chi greeted Goku warmly, and he replied politely,
"Sorry to trouble you."
"Not at all! I'm happy I could help you!"
She sidled even closer, her eyes sparkling, face full of expectation—like she wanted praise.
Goku just gave a small smile.
But for Chi-Chi, that was pure bliss.
Krillin watched the scene and felt the cruel unevenness of life again.
Roshi cleared his throat nearby.
"Ahem. Alright, alright. Now there are three of you.
We'll begin the apprenticeship test.
Only if you complete my task perfectly will all three of you enter my school."
Chi-Chi looked curious. "Master Muten, what's an apprenticeship test?"
Roshi's old face reddened. "Chi-Chi, you're a girl, you don't have to test. Go rest."
Chi-Chi blinked, muttering, "Is it because I'm cute so I don't need a test?"
She beamed. "Thank you, Master! Hee hee!"
Then she looked at Goku. "Goku, good luck!"
With a rosy little face, she ran to rest in the shade.
Roshi looked at the Ox-King.
"Alright, leave Chi-Chi here and go. Don't interfere with my teaching."
The Ox-King bowed at once. "Yes, Master Muten!"
To Gohan and the Ox-King, Roshi was still that lofty, saint-like master—even if retirement and yoga videos had made him a bit of a lecher.
Soon the Ox-King flew away.
Now the island had only Roshi, the sea turtle, Goku, Krillin, and Chi-Chi.
With Chi-Chi sent aside, Roshi explained the real requirement to the boys.
Krillin raised a doubt.
"Isn't Chi-Chi already a cute girl? So why doesn't she count for the test?"
Roshi's face went cold.
"She's just a child. Not my type.
I like the type in those magazines you brought."
Krillin understood. "Ohhh, so you like mature, sexy big sisters!"
Roshi flushed. "You got it. Cute means nothing next to sexy."
Krillin nodded and turned to Goku. "Alright. Let's go."
"Mm!"
Goku hopped on Nimbus. Krillin jumped after him—
—and immediately fell through, splatting to the ground.
Roshi narrowed his eyes.
"Hmph. Heart impure, can't ride Nimbus.
Your reason for training isn't pure.
Leave."
Krillin panicked. "No! Master, don't send me away!
I just want strong martial arts so girls will like me!"
Roshi scratched his head.
Looks like this kid really didn't understand what girls liked.
They didn't dislike him because he was weak—
It was because he was broke, not handsome, short…
And on top of that, bald and noseless.
Roshi sighed.
"You came all this way. Fine, I'll take you.
Now stop wasting time and go with Goku."
"Thank you, Master!"
