Three weeks of forced rest while bones and bruises heal.
The System tracks recovery rates with clinical precision. I struggle with inactivity. With being sidelined. With watching others train while I sit.
Johnny visits regularly. Brings food. Gratitude in every gesture.
"You saved my dojo. I won't forget that."
"You saved yourself. I just forced the moment."
"Don't downplay it." He sits on my ratty couch. "You took a beating from a master to expose him. That's loyalty I haven't earned."
"You earned it every day you showed up. Every student you believed in. Every time you chose growth over cruelty."
Johnny's quiet. Processing.
"I'm changing things. At the dojo. We're still Cobra Kai—still tough, still winners—but we're adding balance."
Interest sparks. "What kind of balance?"
"Aggression without discipline is just violence. We keep the edge but add honor. Mercy isn't weakness." He pauses. "Those Miyagi-Do principles you mentioned. Want to help me incorporate them?"
"He knows. Or suspects. About the dual training."
"I'd be honored, Sensei."

I share my truth. Carefully edited. "Foster care teaches you to read people. To find value in chaos. You were chaos that made sense."
She laughs. "That's the worst compliment I've ever received."
"It's the most honest."
We sit in comfortable silence. Her head on my shoulder. Stars visible despite Valley light pollution.
Amanda comments later that Sam seems happiest in years. Daniel's resistance softens fractionally. He sees how I treat his daughter. The respect. The genuine care.

We shake on it. The truce fragile but genuine.

"That's the goal."
"Keep at it. You're onto something."
Late summer brings deceptive calm. Training continues without Kreese's pressure. Relationships stabilize into genuine connections rather than crisis bonds.
I allow myself to believe maybe I've successfully altered the worst trajectories.
But the System offers no warnings. No ominous countdowns. Just steady progression tracking.
And that's somehow more concerning than constant alerts.
"The school fight is coming. I know it is. Triggered by events I can't fully predict because I've changed so much."
"All I can do is train. Position myself. Be ready to intervene when the inevitable explosion occurs."
