MAXWELL'S POV
Holding her in my embrace brought a deep warmth and comfort to us. Kory, my wolf whined nonstop in my head, urging me to do the unexpected.
Shaking off the thought, I whispered gently in her ears, "I don't need an ally who might get hurt at any moment. That just looks stupid."
My gaze fell on the bandage wrapped around her arms and my expression tightened.
Why couldn't she treat herself before helping others? And besides, Connor was sleeping peacefully while she looked more like the real accident victim.
"You have to take care of yourself, you aren't a baby," I mumbled softly.
With a loud tired sigh, I let her go.
I glanced briefly at her, wondering how she was feeling. The way she had winced in pain earlier was… too much to bear.
Looking away, I adjusted my tie and swallowed hard.
Selene clicked her tongue; her eyes not revealing her expression. "It was an accident this time. I'll be more careful in the future."
