Phoebe's POV
Harriet and I walked out of the amusement park in the evening. We'd grabbed dinner there—some new kids' meal from a fried chicken joint that came with a toy designed for toddlers.
Harriet had never tasted fried chicken before. She devoured it, especially the ice-cold soda that came with it. She even chomped on the leftover ice cubes, grinning from ear to ear.
The toy was her first ever. Though she was way too old for it, tears threatened to spill from her eyes. She gripped it like it was made of gold, thanking me over and over, swearing she'd treasure it forever.
After spending the entire day with her, I found myself genuinely fond of Harriet. She was genuinely sweet, grateful for the smallest things, never demanding more than what she got. When we reached her building, I told her, "Pack your things over the next few days. I'll help you move to Starbrook Estate soon."
"Yes, I will!" Harriet's face lit up with pure joy.
