Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Are We Familiar?

Her brother had given her the important task of making sure Vesper and Axel didn't get close in any way.

At first, she had been careful, slowly charming Axel with her, and when she realised that no matter what she did, the foolish fairy would still grovel in front of her, she stopped pretending.

She treated him like air, yet he still ran around all day trying to find things to do for her.

Something seemed to have changed since that fight in the arena.

The current situation was beyond her expectations.

How could these two have gotten so close so soon?

Seeing that Rina was still pretending to be strong, Vesper slowly lowered her gaze.

To her, Rina was a very big eyesore, and if it weren't for certain circumstances, she might have ceased to exist a long time ago.

"Do you have any business here?"

There seemed to be an underlying threat in that question.

Rina initially wanted to say that she was here to see Axel but that thought dissipated almost immediately.

She felt like her head might just get blown off the moment she says that.

"I saw your highness being carried out of the arena and came to see how you were doing." Her expression was unnatural and awkward.

"Well, you've seen me now." She said in a dismissive tone.

Rina understood what she meant.

Her presence was no longer required here.

When Vesper said that, she took a quick glance at Axel who was lying there watching the show.

Seeing that he was calm and didn't seem to have any objections, she heaved a sigh of relief.

However, seeing how calm he was despite how she was treating Rina, a seed of doubt seemed to have been planted in her mind.

She understood what he said earlier but it was only yesterday that he was clamouring over being in the same team as Rina. Could someone's heart change to the point of indifference just in one day?

Or was he pretending? But Axel has never been good at acting.

With that thought in mind, she turned to Axel this time with a sharp gaze.

Axel was a bit startled by her scrutinising gaze; he could even sense some vigilance in it.

After that brief moment when he was caught off guard, he was no longer surprised as he realized that his unwillingness to help Rina might have made her suspicious.

Unfortunately, he couldn't help it, even if he was trying to pull off an act to make her not suspect him, he couldn't bring himself to feel or show any gentle emotion for this phoney vampire.

All he felt for her was disgust.

Vesper's gaze was quite terrifying and oppressive but years of training had trained his mentality.

He maintained his calm composure as his lips curled into a warm smile.

Rina didn't seem to have noticed the exchange between the two as she pressed the black ring on her finger causing a red envelope to appear in her hand.

"Your highness, my brother and the others will be back in two months, he asked me to pass this letter to you?" She said, reaching out to present the letter to Vesper.

Vesper didn't even spare her a glance as she suddenly got up and walked off to the side.

Axel, who was now rubbing his throat with his left hand, followed her with his gaze to see that she was heading toward the table, which had a jug of water and transparent glass cups placed on top of it.

He retracted his gaze and glanced at Rina for a second before returning his gaze to Vesper who was now filling a cup with water.

The disparity!

Rina was someone who liked to show off her figure so today she was dressed in a thin red dress which showed all her curves.

Axel might find her disgusting but he couldn't deny that she did indeed have a nice and voluptuous figure.

Unfortunately, he had seen better and even those did not affect him.

Now, Vesper, on the other hand, was completely covered in a dark cloak, and the cloak seemed to have a hood which seemed to be down at the moment.

She was completely and properly covered to the extent that the only skin one could see was her face only.

Once she puts the hood on, even that would be gone too.

From the original host's memory, he could see that she was in her usual dressing style; she didn't like showing even the tiniest bit of skin.

But, even with her body completely covered, Axel found her more pleasing to the eyes.

He was still in thought when Vesper arrived in front of him with a glass of water. She was offering it to him.

Axel was confused for a second for a second before pointing at himself.

"For me?"

"Mm." She nodded.

It was at this point that he realized that he was actually thirsty.

How did she know?

"You….."

"You always massage your throat like that whenever you get thirsty." She said before he could finish.

Looking into her bright green eyes, Axel could see that the suspicion in her gaze from earlier was now gone.

"Oh.."

He was a bit dazed as he absent-mindedly took the glass of water from her.

He felt a bit sour.

She remembers his habits so well.

He massages his throat when he's thirsty.

Just as he brought the glass of water to his lips, he suddenly paused.

It might be a subconscious action, but he clearly remembered that he was also prone to massaging his throat whenever he got thirsty.

He remembered it because Pigeon once mentioned it to him.

However, the most important point was that the original host was gone now, so that was him subconsciously rubbing his throat just now.

Our subconscious habits are even similar. Is it just a coincidence?

He was in deep thought as he slowly poured the water content into his mouth.

Rina stood by the side and watched the both of them with an ugly expression.

Vesper watched him finish the glass of water before taking the empty glass from him.

Her expression was still cold but Axel could feel that her eyes seemed to have warmed up a bit.

Using shadow step, she quickly returned the glass before returning to sit back on the bed.

Her eyes seemed to be twinkling as she stared at Axel as if she wanted to imprint his image in her mind.

Axel felt that it was just his illusion.

Rina quickly fixed her expression and put on a smile. If one took a closer look they would be able to see that her face was a bit stiff.

"Did you hear what I said, your highness? My brother asked me to pass a letter to you."

"Your brother?"

The impatience in her voice could be clearly heard as she turned to Rina.

She seemed to be wondering why she was still here.

"Are we familiar with each other?"
