"Jasmine is your mate?"
Ebony's words cut through the quiet of my bedroom like a blade. She perched on the edge of my bed, her knuckles white as she gripped the mattress.
I managed a stiff nod.
She blinked rapidly, processing. "You mean our adopted sister? And you're only telling me this now?"
My mouth felt like sand. I forced myself to swallow before speaking. "I wasn't sure how to explain it. Everything's become such a mess. Mom and Dad can't find out yet."
Her head whipped toward me. "Are you out of your mind? They need to know! You can't hide something this huge from them, Jayden!"
I held up my hands defensively. "Just give me time, Ebony. Please promise you won't say anything."
She studied my face for a long moment, then her shoulders sagged. "Alright. I'll keep quiet for now."
The quiet stretched between us until she broke it again. "When did you realize?" she asked quietly.
