Chapter 38 - Chapter 38

The scene of destruction was horrific.

The crashed helicopter in the field was still burning, dozens of police cars were wrecked, and the estimated death toll was over ten.

Such a case was difficult for the Deputy Director to handle, especially since he didn't even know what kind of creature the murderer was before this.

It was only after asking this Exorcist gentleman that he learned it was called Jeepers Creepers.

So, a Jeepers Creepers destroyed dozens of police cars, killed over ten officers, and wrecked an armed helicopter.

The Deputy Director truly couldn't cover this up and could only call the Director.

John stood with his back to everyone, looking at the Four of Clubs in his hand.

"Name: Jeepers Creepers."

"Status: Restricted, can be contained."

Jeepers Creepers did seem to be restricted by Evil Spirit Wendigo, but his head could still move, baring his teeth at John.

His vitality was probably almost on par with Evil Spirit Wendigo; he might even be stronger when not facing thermal weapons.

"Contain."

Evil Spirit Wendigo and Jeepers Creepers dispersed into black light, being absorbed into two phantom cards, and the two behemoths disappeared just like that.

The police officers were curious but didn't dare to ask.

Two female police detectives also worked together to drag over Terrifier.

"Exorcist sir, what should we do with this person?"

They had personally seen Terrifier's head spin 360 degrees and still be alive; it was clearly not human.

If it weren't for the Deputy Director's order, they wouldn't have dared to touch Terrifier.

"Just throw him over there."

John said casually; his positioning for Terrifier was as bait and a meat shield, as well as for exploration.

Wherever it was dangerous, he would let Terrifier go first to test it out.

Other than that, he wasn't of much use.

Terrifier's combat power limit was there; one could only say he wasn't even a match for Pennywise (It).

"Hey, John, are you alright?"

John turned around and saw Daley, a somewhat flustered half-grown boy.

"I'm fine, Daley, what's wrong?"

"Are you really an Exorcist?" This term was very unfamiliar to the general public, but for enthusiasts like Daley who were interested in the supernatural, it was definitely not unfamiliar.

Some people are born with the ability to see things that ordinary people cannot, as well as some special abilities.

Daley had once fantasized that he would be such a person, but reality told him that he was just an ordinary American civilian from rural town with average grades.

John joked, "It's true, but I'm just a provisional one. Actually, I'd rather be a priest."

Daley heard the teasing in John's words and retorted.

"Then you'll have to carry a bible with you and wear a white beard; you'll be more attractive."

"Oh, come on, a Chinese priest?"

"Haha."

Daley was truly amused; he hadn't noticed before that John also had a dark sense of humor.

"John, let's go back together. I'll be your driver this time."

"Do you need payment?"

"Of course, just tell me some stories about exorcism as payment."

The two got into the car. Normally, the Deputy Director would definitely take them back for investigation, but now he was too preoccupied.

Even if he wanted to intervene, he couldn't.

The Church held significant power here; not to mention local authorities, even the state didn't have that power, even for an unofficial Exorcist.

The reason for this had to be attributed to the endless stream of supernatural events occurring now.

...

Hotel.

Trish looked at the two returning, laughing and chatting, with a surprised expression; when they left, they seemed to dislike each other.

Now, their relationship seemed very good. What happened in between?

"Are you two alright? Was the murderer caught?"

Daley exaggerated greatly.

"Caught, but that wasn't a bad person, but a terrifying Jeepers Creepers."

"Jeepers Creepers? Can that lie be any faker, don't try to fool me, Saint Daley."

"I'm not a saint!"

"You are."

The siblings were at loggerheads.

Trish was mainly dissatisfied with Daley's series of reckless actions.

For an uncertain sound, he took such a great risk to climb in, more saintly than Saint Maria.

For John, he certainly hoped there would be more saints in the world; selfish people often hoped for more good people in the world.

John sometimes liked such teammates; he interrupted the siblings' argument.

"Alright, Trish, Daley is telling the truth. There really is a Jeepers Creepers, and the hundreds of corpses are also real. Daley has performed a meritorious service; he did something very brave."

Daley said proudly, "Sister, did you hear that? You might not have guessed John's true identity is actually an Exorcist. The police can even testify that he subdued the Jeepers Creepers."

Trish was half-believing, mainly because she hadn't seen it herself; her belief was all because of John's words.

Could she really call the police station to ask?

After all that had happened, everyone was hungry. The three sat down again and ordered three set meals, preparing to eat and talk.

Daley was exceptionally excited, chattering non-stop even while eating.

Trish ignored her brother and looked at John, asking.

"Are we resting today or continuing our journey?"

Daley stammered, his hamburger not even swallowed.

"Of course... we're traveling through the night."

"Shut up and eat your food." Trish scolded Daley.

John's intention was to rest for a day at this small hotel and depart tomorrow. Leaving at night wasn't impossible, but he was worried about encountering trouble on the way.

If they accidentally ran into a dead end, it would be a huge misfortune.

It's always right to be cautious.

So, resting for a day was safer.

Daley wanted to travel at night because John had stopped halfway through his stories about being an Exorcist on the road, leaving him feeling like a cat was scratching at his heart. But unfortunately, John and Trish were on the same side.

They could only choose to stay at the hotel.

When renting rooms,

Daley hinted, intentionally or unintentionally, that he wanted to share a room with John to continue their unfinished midnight game.

How could John agree? He didn't have a habit of sleeping with men.

It would be different if it were your sister.

"Daley, this is non-negotiable."

"Then what about calling my sister and the three of us together?" As soon as Daley finished speaking, Trish grabbed his ear.

"Daley, I'm telling Grandpa about this when we get back. You're finished."

John hadn't expected this kid to have such a perverted idea, even suggesting all three of them.

"Daley, you know I'm not that kind of person."

Daley truly didn't mean it that way; he felt he was being wronged.

...

Night fell.

The three ultimately rented three rooms, one for each of them, with the three rooms adjacent to each other.

John leaned against the headboard and took out a phantom card.

"Contained Object: Jeepers Creepers."

"Abilities: Bat Wings, Radar, Slumber, High Temperature Tolerance, DNA Repair, Immune Regulation, Undying Body (Partial)"

"Comment: This is an unkillable Jeepers Creepers."

John felt the comment was somewhat sloppy after reading it, and the 'undying body' part seemed to overlap.

No matter how sparse or sloppy the comment, it couldn't change the fact that Jeepers Creepers could directly tear apart an armed helicopter and ignore thermal weapons.

Just these two points alone were already very good.

There were no shortfalls in terms of a meat shield for now. Next, John could focus on finding Evil Spirits and demons, these types of contained objects.

Those belonged to the realm of true supernatural phenomena and the occult.

John currently had no good methods, so he placed his hopes on the Warren couple, as the two of them traveled all over the country and were bound to encounter suitable cases.

Once he passed the review and became an Exorcist, he could appear as an external aid, which was very good.

The Warren couple usually investigated the origin of the entity first before inviting a priest or an Exorcist from the Church to act.

This was much safer than casually stumbling into unknown supernatural events.

After all, no one knew whether they would ultimately encounter a minor ghost or a hidden great horror.
