Chapter 5 - Bloodlines Awaken(4)

Eryndor of the Hale clan

The forest was dark, surrounded by a heavy fog making it almost impossible to see. The trees stood like trapped souls, swaying dangerously with each howl of the wind.

Seated atop one of them was a tall, slender figure. His black cloak swishing with the wind. A silver insignia attached to it. A crescent moon cradling a crystal eye.

Eryndor Hale, the heir of the Hale clan. Often seen as a walking dead among others due to his emotionless ice blue eyes. He rarely spoke during council gatherings, rarely smiled even when courtesy demanded it.

He always escaped from loud noises to the deepest, creepiest and most forgotten part of the castle keeping people away from finding him. He watched, listened, knew more than most people that pretended to listen. And yet,he kept everything away. Locked in the deepest corner of his mind.

He tilted his head slightly, allowing few strands of his slightly long ash blonde hair fall over his face. His fingers grazed the bark of the tree as his eyes shifted to a cloudy white colour with mist gathering at his feet.

He heard whispers, agonizing screams, despicable laughter. He heard the splashing of blood, saw bodies drop dead with terrified expressions on their faces. Fire, a burning world, a destroyed one.

He furrowed his eyebrows, his expression flickering occasionally. Then….

" Your lordship! Your lordship!!" a voice called.

" Are you here?!!"

Eryndor's eyes shifted back to their original state and he let out a sharp gasp. He felt his chest tighten and he placed a hand on it. His breath was shaky, not with fear but with the overwhelming feeling he felt.

" Was that related to the great war?" he muttered.

" Your lordship!! Are you here?!!" the voice asked again, trembling slightly.

" Here." he replied, jumping off the tree with ease.

" Where? I can't find you." the voice said.

Eryndor began to walk. Poised, graceful and elegant with each stride. His ears twitched slightly, trying to locate the sound of the voice. Then he saw the person.

Short, petite and trembling.

" I'm here." he whispered once he was close enough and the vampire jumped, startled.

He turned around and bowed slightly. His shoulders tense.

" I was asked to call you back to the castle" he said, still bowing.

" By whom?" Eryndor asked.

" The clan leader, your lordship." the vampire replied.

Eryndor was silent for a moment. His eyes staring ahead of the forest into nothingness.

" Tell him… you couldn't find me" he finally said.

The young vampire stood straight, eyes widened in fright.

" Your lordship… please do not put me in such a difficult situation." he pleaded.

Eryndor tilted his head, eyes locking onto the vampire.

" What do you mean?" he asked.

The vampire hesitated. Unsure of whether Eryndor genuine wanted an answer or he was giving him a silent threat to shut up and obey. But with Eryndor still standing in front of him waiting, he decided to speak up.

" I… I mean… your father seemed to know that you were here. That was why he specifically told me to come here." he explained.

" So?" Eryndor said, quite nonchalantly. As if he didn't care, and he didn't.

The young vampire stared at him, annoyance flashing in his eyes as if he would hit Eryndor at any moment.

" What do you mean by "so", your lordship?" he asked.

" I'm sure you know" Eryndor replied already turning around, venturing deeper into the forest.

The young vampire had no choice but to trail behind him.

" It means that if I go back to tell him that I couldn't find you… i would die for being incompetent." he said but Eryndor didn't seem like he was listening.

" I don't want to die, your lordship!!!!!" the vampire yelled.

Eryndor stopped in his tracks, and the vampire felt his heart stop beating.

" I'm sorry for raising my voice at you, your lordship." he apologized, bowing all the way down.

" Is it concerning the academy?" Eryndor asked.

" It seems to be so, your lordship." the vampire replied.

" Tell him I'll go. He doesn't need to worry about that." Eryndor said.

" But your lordship…"

He stopped speaking when Eryndor gave him a cold look that could send him to an eternal slumber. Instead, he bowed again and dashed out of the forest as quickly as possible.

Eryndor continued walking, hands in his pocket. His eyes showed that he was already thinking, calculating but what he thought… only he knew.
