"You are hired! Work starts tomorrow, 9 AM sharp!"
"What, really?! I got the job?!"
The interviewer smiled and waved him off like she had better things to do. Lucas, on the other hand, decided this moment deserved a proper celebration in true heroic fashion: with espresso. Lots of espresso. 'Once I start office life, it will be nothing but espressos and water. I have to train my taste buds. If I don't, all the girls are going to laugh at me,' he thought, his hands trembling slightly with excitement. He ordered three shots without hesitation.
"One, two, three! Here goes nothing!" Lucas slammed all three in one heroic gulp. The bitterness hit him like a slap in the face. 'Bitter! I kind of like it,' he muttered to himself, completely oblivious to the fact that twelve hours later, this would come back to haunt him in ways he could not even imagine.
It was 3 AM. The day his office job began.
And Lucas was still buzzing like a broken coffee machine. Those three shots from twelve hours ago must have applied for permanent residency in his veins.
'Shit, shit, shit. How am I supposed to survive an entire 9-to-5 like this? And only girls around? No sleep? No rest? And not just any girls—the three hottest girls in town work there,' Lucas panicked silently, pacing back and forth in his tiny apartment. His thoughts bounced around like an overcaffeinated pinball.
Okay, let's be realistic here. I am the narrator, and I'm supposed to be nice about him, but does this guy seriously think the three hottest girls will even recognize him by the opposite gender?
First, there's Sabrina Cole, the assistant who will probably be glued to his side all day. Sharp, flirty, confident. Definitely the type who could ruin his life and make him thank her for it at the same time.
Then there's Lily Carter, the sweet, innocent coworker. At least, that is the face everyone sees. Behind that smile, she could be hiding anything.
Lastly, the elegant and terrifying boss. We are not even going to talk about her. Victoria Hale is the kind of ice queen who turns down wealthy, handsome men from out of town without even thinking twice. And Lucas? Average guy, no muscles worth bragging about, average face, but 'somehow I can outdo those men?' Pshhh. The guy is ridiculous. It's a miracle I never get bored narrating him.
By this point, the sun had already risen. Lucas had not slept a single second. This beautiful Monday morning marked the beginning of what he thought was a 'new era' in his life. Reality, however, was already preparing to slap him in the face.
