Chapter 10 - chapter 9

Chapter 9: Siya

Zein's Point of View....

The last thing I remember before I completely lost consciousness was that before I fell, someone caught me. Everything was blurry so I couldn't see them. My head also hurt like it was splitting.

"Thank goodness nothing bad happened to you. It's a good thing that the mysterious woman arrived. The only thing is, she will leave a scar on your chest." Mia said.

I couldn't help but smile. I felt a sting earlier, like something was torn in me along with some liquid they made me drink that had no taste. It was just like water.

"That blue elixir. Who do you think gave it?" Vanessa asked.

No one dared to answer because no one knew the answer. Whoever the mysterious people who helped us were, we owe them our lives.

We all turned at the same time when the door opened and revealed Nurse Cha with a wide smile. Her smile also disappeared when she noticed the broken window before her gaze shifted to us.

"Y-You're awake already." The surprise in her eyes was obvious but she was trying to cover it with a smile.

"Bitch." I heard Vanessa whisper so I held her hand to calm her down.

"Yes, thanks for the help Nurse Cha." Matt said with anger evident but Nurse Cha didn't seem to notice because her smile widened even more.

"You are welcome. It is our duty to save lives."

I couldn't avoid a smirk. Really Nurse Cha? Save lives? Or end our lives? How dare you bitch.

"I'm actually impressed with you Nurse Cha." Mia approached her with a smirk. "You managed to save their lives in a matter of minutes. You're really good." Mia praised.

She smiled again. Is she stupid? Why doesn't she know how to sense things? Your stupidity Nurse Cha will get you in trouble. You're just a minion to them and in the end, your life means nothing to them either.

The next day everything went back to normal. After the incident last night, no one gossiped about it, it was like they were used to always having such incidents.

"Good morning class." Sir Alvarez greeted us.

As usual, no one bothered to greet him back. I wanted to greet him but I was lazy. Psh.

He started teaching. I was just looking at him while my mind wandered somewhere else.

"Look around." Celine, who was next to me, whispered.

We already had a seating arrangement and as Shion I was next to Celine Samonte. I noticed my surroundings as she told me to. Everyone was quiet, listening. Like ordinary students listening to learn and get high grades, to make their parents proud.

"In your opinion. Who is the enemy among them?" She asked which made me look at her.

She was looking at Sir Alvarez.

What enemy is she talking about? Among our classmates there is an enemy? Who? How did she know?

"What are you saying?" I asked.

Her gaze remained on Sir Alvarez who was writing an equation on the blackboard. Her lips gradually widened until she chuckled softly.

So weird.

"Too innocent and numb. Not everything you see is true. Not everything you learned is the truth. Not all your friends consider you a friend too. In the end, they will still think of themselves."

She looked at me and I don't know why I looked down. She is right, in this hell, you really don't know who to trust and who to avoid, who to befriend and who to stay away from.

"In every innocent smile, there is a hidden secret, do not hug anyone tightly because you don't know who is holding the knife. You will just find yourself with blood."

I wanted to cover my ears but my hands wouldn't move. I don't want to think that something like that could happen to my friends. I don't want to think anything bad about them. I don't want the trust to be broken.

"You, Zein? Can you turn your back on your friends to save yourself?" I was creeped out by her question and I just found myself standing up from where I was sitting.

"Yes Ms. Shion?" Sir Alvarez asked me.

"May I go out?" Was the only thing that came out of my mouth. I didn't wait for him to answer and left.

I was panting when I got to the comfort room. I leaned my hands on the sink because I felt like my knees would give out. Shit!

No. I can't turn my back on my friends. To death do us part, I won't betray them.

I know they won't turn their back on me either.

I just washed my hands before going out. I lost the desire to enter the classroom and I also didn't want to see Celine. She gives me the chills.

I decided to go to the gymnasium where no one was because it was class time. I was about to enter when someone tapped me.

I faced the person behind me. My forehead creased when I realized that it was the woman whom Matt and I bumped into, who was very scared of us.

"W-Why?" I asked.

She didn't speak but suddenly tears came out of her eyes. Her hair was messy and her blouse was wrinkled too.

She was whimpering without even opening her mouth. It was obvious that she was trembling in fear and wanted to say something to me.

"Hey! Are you okay?!" I asked worriedly while holding her arm to calm her down.

She shook her head.

"Why won't you talk?! Is someone chasing you?" I asked.

She wiped her eyes before running away. She kept looking around as if hiding from someone.

"Wait!

I ran towards her but I couldn't fully reach her when she collapsed onto the floor. My eyes widened in fear and shock.

I slowly approached her while my eyes widened. I also covered my mouth.

Her tongue was sticking out with a nail mark on it. Just like what happened before, it was obviously burned with a hot iron. Blood spurted from her neck where a nail was embedded.

"Help! Help!" I shouted and shouted so someone would hear us.

She was having difficulty breathing and her eyes were almost bulging out. She was trying to speak but no sound came out of her mouth.

Is it possible she wanted to tell me something?

"Zein!"

"OH MY GOD!"

I just felt Matt and Dave pull me away from the now lifeless woman. Her eyes were wide open as if looking at me, her finger pointing at me too.

What does she want to say?

"Zein! Are you okay?!" Mia asked me.

Jerome handed me a bottle of mineral water but I didn't get to drink it. Who did this?

How come there's a nail stuck in her? I didn't see it earlier. It's possible someone shot it from a distance.

"Shit! Zein! Are you okay?" Matt asked me worriedly.

I just nodded before gulping down the mineral water bottle. The guards also arrived and carried the woman's body.

"Who did this, Zein? Did you see?" Dave asked.

I shook my head. "I didn't see. It happened so fast." I said truthfully.

"But it seems she wanted to tell me something. But she couldn't say it because her tongue..." I swallowed after remembering why she could only groan. "It already has a nail mark." I said.

"Ms. Zein Shion, may I invite you to my office?" asked a woman who seemed to be the principal of HU because of her ID.

"Wait! Zein has nothing to do with what happened!" Jerome insisted.

"We just want to talk to her. We are not accusing her." The principal replied gently.

"We'll come with you." Said Matt.

"No need. Go on, you go to the dorm first. I'll follow later." I stopped them.

I felt their objection in their eyes but they couldn't do anything. I followed Madame Principal. I couldn't help but look down because of the kind of looks the people we passed by gave me, as if I was the one to blame for the death of that woman.

When we entered, we were greeted by Ace sitting in Madame Principal's swivel chair.

"Oh Madame Carmie, good thing you arrived quickly. I'm so bored." He greeted.

The principal apologized, which made me frown. Why is it like that? Is the principal scared of him? Psh.

"Have a seat." Ace stood up from Principal Carmie's swivel chair and sat on the sofa where I was sitting.

The principal sat there before clasping her hands on top of her desk.

"What do you want?" I asked. "If you're going to accuse me about what happened earlier, I apologize but I am not the one who did it." I added.

"How rude Ms. Shion, you might be forgetting that you are in front of the Principal and the SSG President. Learn to respect." Ace said softly but with emphasis.

I rolled my eyes and didn't answer anymore.

"This is about you, Ms. Shion as the newest secretary." Principal Carmie started.

"How many times do I have to say I'm not interested in that position." I said annoyedly.

I thought they would ask me about the incident earlier but it's about my being a secretary. Geez.

"As if you have a choice. I chose you personally and that's final. Period."

"I. don't. want. to!"

Ace stood up and sat on Madame Principal's table.

This person is just a hypocrite who seems obedient but is actually a devil, oh well he was already a devil before.

"Ms. Shion. You will also benefit from this. You will know everything you want to know once you accept the position. You can control the lower people. They will fear you." He laughed softly.

I almost laughed at what he said. Does he think I will take that position just to be superior to others? Is that what people in position are really like? Do they feel they can control everything using their power?

"I'll think about it." I surrendered.

I'm tired of arguing with them and I know I have no chance. I hate him!

"Fine. Anyway, how are you? I've heard what happened to you last night."

"Thanks for the concern but I am fine."

I stood up and dusted myself off. Ace laughed softly. This guy is getting on my nerves.

"I know who did that to you."

I froze before looking at him. He jumped from sitting on Principal Carmie's table and went to the door first.

"Tsk tsk. Don't make a fool of yourself. I know you've noticed something, your suspicion is correct. IT WAS HIM who did it."

He left me stunned. No, what I'm thinking is wrong. I shouldn't accuse, IT WASN'T HIM who is to blame...
